Craft/Rank: Journeyman Miner –Excavator, Apprentice Wherhandler
History: Sasar is the 3rd child of Resar and Sasery. His eldest brothers are only a turn or two older than him and for the first 6 turns of his life he was the baby. Then Saresary was born. At first it was rough going, learning to share with his little brother and be one of the responsible older siblings. He took to it well though, growing to enjoy helping their mother care for the infant. It was expected he'd be the same when Ailin was born but something between the two never mixed. Ailin, born to an aging mother was too different from the rest of his brothers, he seemed weaker, certainly scrawnier and his temperment didn't fit in with the rest of the family. Sasar didn't know how to handle the more delicate child and instead of bonding grew distant from the rest of his family. This change in temperment and the further separation from his own identity as one of the little brothers soured Sasar. He grew into a moody and disagreeable teenager. He felt betrayed by his parents for having such a changeling and the rest of his brothers for accepting it. Sasar was the instigator in many of Ailin's bullying.
Sasar was the first brother sent to a Hall for craft training when he was 15. His size made the choice fairly obvious. His strength would serve him well in either mining or smithing. Sasar chose the mines mostly for the distance. The southern Mining hall was further away from Atlini than the Smithhall. Being put to such strenuous work at that age helped Sasar grow into the man he is today. He took to it like a dragon to flight, developing the discipline and work ethic he so sorely lacked. He genuinely enjoyed working in the mines. Sasar could never unlearn that initial impression of betrayal though. He felt that everyone should be able to put as much effort into their work as he did and if they didn't they were slackers and couldn't be trusted without supervision.
He walked the tables at 23 and petitioned to be transfered to a northern mine. He was given the opportunity to work at Benden, mining firestone for the dragons. No one expected Thread to fall again and the stone was strictly used for training for the Spring Games. As such it wasn't as important as other ores and Sasar was given leave to assist the foreman in running the small mine, learning the management side of things as well as putting his own back to the difficult task. He hoped to one day run a mine of his own.
When Thread return the demand on his small firestone mine increased tenfold. He was demoted back to generic mining as a new foreman was hired as well as a bevy of trained assistants. Their small mine was expanded and Sasar generally forgotten as one of the faceless workers. This irritated him deeply and when the search for potential wher handlers went out Sasar signed up immidiately. Wher handlers were valuable in the mines and those who were bonded were held above the average miner.
The news that his youngest brother, the one who'd caused him such strife in his youth, had been Searched from his own Harperhall infuriated Sasar. Not only was his brother a delicate little fruit who's only talent was something completely useless but he was now chosen to join the riders? If they thought he'd be of use to them they were sorely mistaken. It was just another reason to believe they weren't taking their jobs seriously.
Description: Sasar is the tallest of his brothers, though height seems to run strongly through them. 6’7” and barrel chested there was no doubt this young man was destined for the mines. From his time as an apprentice and the turns he’s spent as a Journeyman he’s developed strong back and arm muscles, giving even more bulk to this giants frame. He shares the same straight nose and brows as his brothers as well as their tawny coloring and curly hair, also cropped short to fit under a helmet.
Personality: Motivated, Courageous, Hard Working, Realistic, Honest
Stubborn, Intolerant, Inconsiderate, Controlling, Others can't be relied upon
Other: He is Ailin’s older brother. Sasar's angry with the weyrfolk, believing they're too self centered and egotistical to realize what their demands cost those who don't live in the weyr. That, with the dismal display during the first Fall and their own internal bickering and melodrama, leads him to feel like they're taking their duty lightly and don't really care about anything or anyone outside of their own walls.
