So, I don't know how many of you guys would be interested, but here's just a gentle plug for a couple of guilds that I'm a part of. Both of them are writing related, although one is a little more seasonal than the other.
SuWriMos, standing for the Summer Writing Months, is a time on Gaia when writers are, well, encouraged to write! Since quite a few people are in school or otherwise occupied during November when
NaNoWriMo takes place, we came up with the idea to host our own during the summer (for the Northern Hemisphere, at least - sorry, Aussies!) when people usually have more time. We've also made it longer: three months instead of one, and much more flexible: you set your own goal.
To sum this whole thing up:
When: June 1st through August 31st (you can do it for just one or two of the months if you're busy)
What: Write something! 10k words, 50k words, 150k words, whatever you want.
Who: Should you choose to accept this mission, you!
Where: Wherever you write best: on your computer, in a notebook, wherever!
Why: So you have a reason to write that story you've been always been meaning to!
For those of you not familiar with either NaNoWriMo or SuWriMos, it's basically all about giving writers a goal and a deadline. Everybody writes better when they have both. The SuWriMos guild is accompanied by a thread every year, but this thread won't be set up in the WF by yours truly until at least May. However, if you think this challenge is right up your street - or you just want to join another writing guild with a supportive community (albeit one only active between May and September) - then this is the guild for you. =D
Post Your Progress Guild[x] PYP on the other hand is active all year round. It has a smaller membership base, but once again is another supportive community of writers. The idea behind this guild is to simply give writers a way to set and track their own personal writing goals, but in a public forum in the hopes that this will inspire productivity. It's fantastic to be able to say that you've achieved what you set out to do!
To quote directly from the guild itself: "We are a community of writers who seek encouragement and support while trying to reach our writing goals. We are novelists, storytellers, and dreamers, all striving to reach a successful goal: Finishing our writing projects."
So if you need a kick up the butt, try this! =D
