Welcome to 365 Days of Writing, the writing guild for those of you who wish to stretch your minds--every day of the year. On this thread, you will find the following:
Post 1: An introduction to the group. Post 2: The basic rules. Post 3: An explanation of each subforum - what belongs in them, and what doesn't. Post 4: Drum roll please...the Original Challenge itself. (There will be a separate thread for the prompt list, as that takes up a lot of space and demands its own thread. However, I will provide a link to the list in my blog on this thread, for those of you who "JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!!") Post 5: List of challengers
So, what is the group about? The group was founded based on the 365 Day Writing Challenge, invented by yours truly. It is a list of 365 prompts, which can be interpreted in any way you wish through writing. How you do the challenge is up to you - it's a challenge, not a contest. You can take it all in one shot, or take it a little bit at a time. It is recommended that you at least write every day, however, as this is how your skills will improve. There are mini-challenges and other writing prompts in parts of the guild, as well as places for you to discuss your other writing projects and seek help and advice for how to improve your skills. If you complete the 365 Day Writing Challenge, you will receive a very substantial "pat-on-the-back" that consists of 50,000 gold, sponsored by me. To be of note, this is not for the first to finish, or for the ones I judge to be best--this is for EVERYONE who dedicates their time and effort to the challenge. It is not easy to write every day, and I respect those who are willing to try for it.
Also, if you would like to write your own list of 365 prompts and share it, you are more than welcome to do so here.

Basic Rules
These are the only requirements for being a member of the group.
1. A passion or enjoyment for the art of writing 2. A commitment to showing respect to all and any members of the group, even if you don't like their writing or think they have broken the rules (if someone DOES break the rules, report it to me or another moderator, do NOT take the law into your own hands.) 3. The ability to give good feedback to other members. 4. A spellchecker (I'm sorry, but if you use too much "txt-tlk" out of context and it becomes hard to understand you, you will be asked to leave the guild) 5. Good ideas and the drive to express them 6. Follow the Gaia Terms of Service no matter what (if you have writing that is explicit, post a link to it on another website with a warning about what the writing contains - for example, "*link here* is a story that I wrote that contains drug and alcohol use and sexual references, but would still like feedback on" - some good websites to link to are LiveJournal, DeviantART, and Blogspot. Be warned with DeviantART, however: There is a mature content filter that can be applied that you may need to be 18 or older to pass through.)
These are the grounds for removal from the group:
-Failure to abide by guild rules -Lying about your accomplishment of the challenge -Plagiarism (put in bold because I see so damn much of it every day) -Failure to follow the Gaia ToS -Flaming -Inappropriate conduct -Spamming - it wastes everyone's time, including yours. -Scams - this includes if you say you'll give a reward on a contest and then don't deliver. If you can't follow through, don't start it. -Soliciting people to do your homework for you. This is plagiarism as well, and it's just dishonest. In addition to which, it rarely works.
These are the guidelines for posting:
-Abide the Gaia ToS (see above) -NO PLAGIARIZING!!!! -If the work you are posting is over 1000 or 2000 words, please include a brief summary at the beginning. -No page-stretching -No spam -Do not over-use "txt-tlk" or l33t out-of-context. -BE RESPECTFUL -Please post everything in the correct forum. -Be creative, and have fun!

The Subforums
365 Days of Writing contains 7 subforums. General guidelines for the subforums:
Mini-Challenges is a subforum where you can post smaller challenges, whether in list form or not, and respond to challenges posted by others.
What belongs here: Prompts, ideas, challenges, exercises, contests, and responses to all of the above.
What does NOT belong here: 365 Day Challenges (if you are making your own list, post in the main forum; if you are responding to a 365 Prompt list, post in Member Journals), writer's block threads (see "Guides and Help" below), contests and promotions from outside websites (see "Promotions" subforum), anything that goes in the other forums.
Guides and Help is a place for resources relating to writing. It is also where you can ask for technical advice and help with writer's block.
What belongs here: Writer's block threads, character profile forms, writing guides, other resources (links to outside resources acceptable), reviews for professional guides or books or other resources for writers, requests for support on the technical aspects of writing, research for stories, or how to get started on/finish the challenges.
What does NOT belong here: Asking for feedback on specific writing pieces (belongs in Main Forum or Work-in-Progress, depending on the content), promotions of outside sites unrelated to the subforum's main content, anything that breaks the rules on asking for "help" on homework.
Promotions is the place to be if you want to show off your personal website or you have posted your own writing on other parts of the site, or if there's another guild you like that's related to writing. Here is also the place to promote the writing of other Gaians, if you like.
What belongs here: Links to your own websites, links to other parts of the site, links to other guilds, showing off a friend's writing skills. Also, links to outside contests or challenges belong here, as well as reviews of those websites.
What does NOT belong here: Outside resources for writers (these go in "Guides and Help"), challenges and mini-challenges that are original, anything that belongs in a different forum.
General Discussion is just what it sounds like. Not a can of spam, but a place for writers to discuss their writing, give feedback and advice, talk about books they like and their favorite writers, etc...
What belongs here: Discussion-based threads
What does NOT belong here: Spam, topics that do not relate to literature or other forms of art (just because it says "General Discussion" does NOT mean it's the Chatterbox.)
Member Journals is where the real fun takes place--start threads to showcase your writing, read what others have written and give and receive feedback.
What belongs here: Any writing you want to post, and feedback for others who post.
What does NOT belong here: Unfinished work or incomplete ideas - these go in the "Work-In-Progress" forum.
Work-In-Progress is fairly self-explanatory. Post your ideas that haven't fleshed out yet, such as settings, story fragments, character profiles, etc. You can also offer up ideas for plots and coordinate with other writers to do collaborative works here.
What belongs here: Stuff that isn't yet a fully matured piece, but has potential. Requests for collaboration with other members.
What does NOT belong here: Requests for feedback on completed works.
Other Writings: Post and Feedback is for writing unrelated to the challenges. Post your projects or give feedback to others.
What belongs here: Independent writing projects.
What does NOT belong here: Challenges and general discussions.

The ChallengeThe Challenge is to write a piece of poetry or prose every day, based on the list of themes provided here, for a year of writing. The writing can be whatever you like--it can be any genre, any style, anything. The challenge is doubtless difficult, but the rewards are great. As explained earlier, this is your challenge--you can do it however you like. To start, send me a PM telling me when you intend to begin the challenge. When you finish, send me a PM with the link to your thread and the day you started. I will then grant you your prize.
