What are some environmental/nature books you wish you had on your bookshelf? Why are you interested in reading them?

Here are a few I would really like to have:
-Geoscience Handbook by J. Douglas Walker and Harvey A. Cohen
-Applied Hydrogeology by C.W. Fetter
-Contaminant Hydrogeology by C.W. Fetter
-The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson
-The Wildlife of Costa Rica by Fiona A. Reid
-The Edge of the Sea by Rachel Carson
-Atlantic Coast Beaches by William J. Neal, Orrin H. Pilkey and Joseph T. Kelley

Most of the non-fiction books on my wishlist are either recipe books, gardening books, herbal compendiums, or other homestead type books.

(All links will take you to the Amazon page for that book.)

One of the ones I want the most is Put 'Em Up! by Sherri Brooks Vinton. It's a big guide to preserving, from canning to freezing to drying to pickling. I dabbled in canning last year with some of my garden leftovers, and now I'm hooked! heart

Some of the gardening books I really want are:
-Vertical Gardening: Grow up, not out, for more vegetables and flowers in much less space by Derek Fell, because I'm horrible at space management, lol
-The Edible Front Yard:The Mow-Less, Grow-More Plan for a Beautiful, Bountiful Garden by Ivette Soler, which won't really come in handy until I eventually get a real house of my own.
-Yankee Magazine's Pantyhose, Hot Peppers, Tea Bags, and More-for the Garden: 1,001 Ingenious Ways to Use Common Household Items to Control Weeds, Beat Pests, Cook Compost, Solve Problems, Make Tricky Jobs Easy, and Save Time by Yankee Magazine, which pretty much says it all.. xd
-and Easy Garden Projects to Make, Build, and Grow: 200 Do-It-Yourself Ideas to Help You Grow Your Best Garden Ever also by Yankee Magazine, because I'm horribly uncreative when it comes to gardening, usually.

I also want to check out Bread: A Baker's Book of Techniques and Recipes by Jeffrey Hamelman because I love making bread at home, but up until now I've only used half-reliable recipes found on the Internet, without any real technique instruction to go with them.

Lastly, I want to get The Steps to Healing: Wisdom from the Sages, the Rosemarys, and the Times by Dana Ullman, because it seems like a cute book and an interesting and amusing read. The whole book apparently consists of short, humorous essays addressing key points of health.

smile I hope you are both signed up to the book swap sites, such as paperbackswap.com (my nickname there is Bellbird) and others. If the books wanted are expensive, it's naturally going to be tougher to get them, but it's always nice when something arrives off your wishlist. And it's also fun to share.

Some books that have been in print for a while should be available in earlier editions, such as the Edible Front Yard..I remember that on my aunt's bookshelf years ago.

Oh my gosh, thanks! I hadn't heard of any of those sites. Granted, I'm entirely too attached to almost all of my books to swap them, but I can use the DVD and CD swapping sites. xd
