I also think hoarding is one of the best ways to get fast cash if you're one of those people who can't hold onto items for longer than two months.

It took me having my account taken away for a few years to figure this out. The biggest profit you could ever get is by figuring out which items are going to go into style next, hoarding those and waiting-

Oh. Wait. That's still hoarding. sweatdrop

In my experience the best way to "make" gold is to always remember how much you bought the items, I also keep tabs on my capital and how much profit I made in a transaction...just keep organized, keep your prices competitive...blah blah too lazy to explain, I apologize. ORGANIZE.

Well it's idiotic to buy those because there isn't a large profit margin anymore. Besides hoarding works much better on a smaller scale. If i can buy a 100k item and make 10k in the future, why wouldn't I buy an item worth 5k and wait for the price to jump to 12k? It seems like you guys don't understand one of the most simple economic formulas anyways, supply x demand = price. Therefore if you hoard an item the price will go up because their is less supply and demand will increase over time.

Now to answer the issue of no inflation. There is a stagnant amount of inflation but this is because the Gaia creators made it this way. If you are an older player you'll remember that there use to be no 2% tax and you could receive 100% profit. Also, Gaians stopped using the shops and usually used the marketplace so between that and the massive gold farming Gaia inflation was out of control. If you look at Runescape, this very issue because hardly any gold is getting put back into the system and not to mention the economy is controlled by 12 year olds. By putting up a control on market inflation the Gaian market place was able to be a healthy sales area and the Gaian economy hasn't span out of control.
I believe the problem they were mentioning is due to the steadily increasing supply of items that are considered 'better' than previous items. Rock puppy sold at 40k at one time for example, and you can find it for 12k because the quality of items has increased, and is continuing to increase. If you have an item that was in high demand because of a certain pose that all others lacked, but then suddenly a new item comes along with a pose that's nearly identical, matches a more favored color scheme, and is over-all designed better, the demand for the previous item plummets. Which is, for long-term investors, becoming a huge liability in investing in older items. It is possible that the market could crash -to an extent- if there isn't a way to decrease the amount of similar items. With an excess of similar items, gaia is experiencing a massive surplus in the market place, which is part of the cause for the inflation stand-still. Currently the best way to earn gold via hoarding is to stick with short-term. As it stands, gaia will only continue to push out new items, increasing the surplus of similar and favored items. Unless gaia experiences an inventory clean-out (which the trash option was designed for), investors may have to re-think their methods of deciding what items to invest in.

It's not something to brush off, but it isn't too extreme either.

Hoarders and those that fill their stores with ten of the same item in a display of extreme greed are the main reason I don't bother with Gaia anymore. This is a just a mule account, and I'm worth quite a bit by any standard on my main, but over-hoarding is the number one reason I don't bother with this site, much less the marketplace, anymore.

I believe I read an article related to the current conversation but that was ages ago, even so It would need revision because gaian economy was much different back then.

I probably have not posted in this guild for about a year as i have taken a bit of a sebatical, but i do stop in every now and then to see whats goin on. This topic intrigued me because it seems to be the culmination of whats wrong with the thinkin of most people when it comes to making gold on gaia. First step "help me make gold?" second step "youre wrong". When it comes to hoarding peoples concepts of it are usually wrong first take hoarding out of your vocabulary and replace it with the idea of making a profit on that individual item, because we are all apart of hoarding by default. Everytime you buy an item that you intend to sell for a profit and not for your own use you are involved in hoarding, especially when you add it up with all the other "investors" who are doing the same. Investors(x plus y(items not intended for personal use)) What should concern you about hoarding is when people over invest in an item this usually starts at the cash shop when the supply is truely being dictated. look at nightmare sash and Astra-I: Spectacular Golden Halo for an idea of what im talkin about. Now as soon as someone bought one of those items even one they were contributing to the overall hoard on gaia. What it comes down to is taking an indivulist approach: is buying one of an item a good investment? taking into account all factors including the amount of this item that will be sold for profit by everybody on gaia (the Hoard) if it is than do it than reasses and do it again and again untill factors have changed and are no longer in ur favor. when buying many of an item try not to buy what everybody else is even if it goes against advice you are given.(this does not mean pick an obscure item purely for its obscurity but more along the lines of something under the radar) For example the case of P alot of people were against these for a lil bit as the factors were not definitive and people dont like it when they dont know the time frame but i bought about 40 or so at 200-300k across gens not because i was hoarding but because i thought everytime i bought one it was a good investment. Overall i view advice from anywhere even this guild as a risk and you should too if you feel the advice is incorrect than dont use it but if you rely on it and use it for ur benfeit without questionin it then the fault lies on you as well when things do not pan out.
Hope this helps in some fashion whenever dealin with a topic like this wrong and right are usually to concrete of terms to use.
Generally when people give a dog a bone they dont want a know how it tastes.
