Mitzi had been very excited to find another obstacle course to run. She'd finished each of the other ones she'd tried, at least once, and so a new challenge sounded perfect.

She'd thought she was doing well, recognizing the trick bridges, the traps in the climbing nets, and the triggers for the things that would pin or otherwise immobilize her, but she hadn't been paying attention for any clansmen who might be waiting with spears. Really, she should know better. Hadn't Roch had exactly this problem on the first obstacle course she had run with him? But no, she wasn't watching for it, and suddenly there were spears flying out of her from what seemed like nowhere.

She didn't even have time to dodge, so it was just as well that whoever was throwing them only planned to pin her. It was a little impressive how good of a job they did, given how little clothing she had, but between the sharp blades being too near vital areas, and actually catching clothing (mostly her sleeves, but that pinned her arms well), there really wasn't a way for her to extricate herself. She'd just have to wait until someone came along to help.

The obstacle course...was probably not where Yin should be. And if Alexander had realized that that was where he had run off to he probably would not have been happy. Really though, how was he supposed to learn if he did not continue to try? And so far the spears had barely touched him, just one really. And it had barely been a scratch.

So when he entered the obstacle course he began to go toward where he thought the speared area was. Everything was fairly calm this day, and he was simply moving at a decent pace when something caught his eye. That type of purple was not a color often found naturally in the forest.

Then it clicked into place. Purple. Head height. Hair. That made it a reaper. Judging by the lighter shade it was the ghoul. Miss Mitzi. He did not want to go closer, but then he noticed the spears. Quickly he glanced around, and spotted...absolutely no one. Nervous and more than a little freaked out he all but sidled up to the tree she was pinned to, saying nothing, and beginning to yank out the spears. Just...rescue the ghoul. That was all.

The ghoul had actually been starting to get a bit worried, with as long as she had been standing there, and no one else coming along. She'd tried shouting a few times early on, but nor did she hear anyone, so she wasn't surprised when it didn't do any good.

She'd just started reconsidering whether she could get free by herself - probably with some cuts, and trashing her sleeves, but that was better than trusting that she could stay this still much longer - when she saw movement. She'd been about to call out when the figure resolved into a certain weremantis.

Oh. Oh no. She'd promised Alex that she would leave Yin alone, and asking him for help pointedly did not count as "leaving Yin alone". So she was starting to wiggle a bit (ow, ouch, drat she could feel a trickle of blood...) when she saw him first notice her, and then, to her surprise, change direction to head over to her.

At first she was too focused on getting free, and too relieved at the help, to pay much attention to the boil. As soon as he had gotten one of her arms free, though, she started to help, and she also started actually watching Yin. It wasn't hard to tell that Alex had been right; the mantodae was clearly trying very hard not to panic, and it seemed to be focused around her.

So as soon as she was free, before he could run off again, she quickly said, "Yin, I'm so sorry. About what happened during the Trials... I don't understand why it upset you so much, but I guess I don't really have to. It was my fault, and, well... I wish there was a way to undo it. But if there's anything I can do to make it up to you, anything at all, please let me know." She took a deep breath. She'd considered a few times what she would say, if and when she had a chance to say anything, and she could only hope she hadn't somehow frightened him more. And then, almost as an afterthought, she added, "And thank you so much for getting me free."

It took some time to get the ghoul free, and she was struggling, injuring herself. He tried to hurry, tried to free her before she could be damaged farther, and finally succeeded, ready to run off into the forest.

Oh Great Mantis she was bringing this up again. He visibly cringed, shoulders hunching in farther. Yes, she was apologizing, but he really did not want to think about it. "It-It is fine Miss Mitzi," he tried to assure her. Really, it was not. Not at all. But upon reflection he could see the string of unfortunate events. Which had led to...led to. Researchers might have been interested to note just how red a mantodae's face could be.

Oh no she felt indebted to him? That was wrong, so very, very wrong. And she was thanking him and he just felt flustered and uncertain. Thankfully all thoughts were driven from his mind as he was pinned to a nearby tree by several spears. He almost looked relieved as he looked in her general direction, though really he was focused on something just past her shoulder. "If you would assist me in getting free I would be happy?" he offered almost hopefully. Maybe if she did that she would not longer feel indebted to him.

And he could escape into the forest.

That had... not gone at all as she had hoped it would. She could see as her words just upset the mantodae more, and she absolutely couldn't figure out why. Well, she could see why he might be embarrassed, although more in an academic sense, as she couldn't personally relate (at least not to remaining embarrassed like this). But there seemed to be something more to it, and she really just... couldn't make heads or tails of it. She actually found it somewhat upsetting, and she suspected this was why Alex had told her not to try apologizing or even talking to Yin.

And then there were more spears flying past, and she dodged backwards more out of reflex, and for a moment she found herself tottering on the edge of the platform. Even knowing that there was a net below, even with how quickly she managed to regain her balance, her heart was still pounding afterwards. And then she looked up to see that now the weremantis was pinned, all because he had stopped to free her.

"Of course," she replied a little breathlessly, before trotting across the platform to start working one of the spears free. But no, she was not going to consider this as canceling her debt to him; besides the fact that he was pinned because he had been helping her, he was still clearly very caught up on what had happened that day several weeks ago, and that meant it was not fine.

Once freed he carefully put enough room between them so that if for no good reason he decided to fall over he would not face-plant into her. He looked possibly more awkward and nervous than usual, shoulders hunched, hands drawn up almost defensively as he bowed slightly. "Please do not concern yourself over me." He knew he was not worth the time and energy wasted by such concern. Was what had happened horrendously awful? Yes. Was it scaring? Somewhat, but it was nothing compared to other things recently. And it was not nearly as bad as some of the things that his own bonded had done to him.

He began to back away, still uncomfortable, and then his foot was suddenly caught. A brief look of confusion crossed his face as he looked up at Miss Mitzi and then back down and suddenly...he was flying. He was not ready to be flying. At least up here he got a good view of the forest?

The fact that he clearly wanted to be anywhere but near her... hurt. She really didn't know what she could do, though, so she let the weremantis put space between them, and she mostly even manage to keep from showing how much it bothered her. If she had had any idea what was going through his head, it probably would have upset her even more (and confused the heck out of her).

And then, a moment before Yin stepped into the trap, she spotted it. She tried to warn him, but there wasn't time, and by the time she had run over to try to help him, he was already flying off out of the course. Naturally, just then she stepped in another trap. She had a moment of terror to realize the same thing was about to happen to her, and then she was tossed off in another direction.

She landed with an "Ooof," and she had no clue where the mantodae had ended up. With a sigh, she decided that was probably just as well, since he seemed to want to get away from her anyway. So she picked herself up, and headed back towards the start of the course, and from there the village.
