Talk about Literary Fiction here, debate the big debate on this versus genre writing. Plot-driven versus character-driven. Authors you admire in the particular area and if you think it is dying or evolving.

I love writing character driven novels. I don't know if I feel the same about reading them. XD I read The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, and that was brilliant, but I can't say I've read much other literary fiction which is character driven and loved it.
Any suggestions?

Well I like a bit of fantasy thrown in so I have a love for magic realism smile Angela Carter specifically. A handful of authors would be McEwan, Murakami, Faulks, Bukowski...Atwood. I have a serious love for Atwood at the moment, I chose one of her books for my Uni portfolio.
Ooo but The Book Thief is really, really good smile

The Book Thief! I have that but I haven't had chance to read it yet; it's at home. I've also read a fair bit of McEwan (thought I should since he graduated from our creative writing MA at UEA) - but I've never tried Angela Carter. I think I might though, because she is a name that keeps cropping up! I'm still unsure of Atwood, but I think I should give her another shot. 3nodding
