⋆ History :: Arthane was the youngest son born to parents who worked within the transportation industry of the district. Throughout the generations, the Schwansson’s were known for their skill for developing transport technology. Unfortunately for Arthane, he didn’t inherit a mechanic’s hand. Nor could he understand the methodology or theory behind transport. No, what he could understand was biology and first aid. He would ace the school tests for science but never for technology much to his parent’s and brother’s disappointment. They tried everything they could do to get him to lean more towards the family trade, but their efforts were in vain and they soon came to terms with the fact that there would now be a healthcare professional in the family. Thus breaking the Schwansson tradition. His parents and brother never really forgave him for it. What they did credit him for was his choice in wife.
Arthane met Gwenda (his first wife and mother to his children) on an emergency medical trip to District 8 when one of the factories had complications that resulted in mass death and injuries. Gwenda had been one of the lucky few that had been on break and out of the textiles room when the blast had erupted. Though she did suffer a concussion, a few cuts and slight internal bruising. Arthane was assigned as her doctor and when he first entered the ward, it was love at first sight for both of them. He couldn’t even wait a week out to ask her to marry him. She accepted and they soon moved into their own home in District 6. Shortly after they were married, Gwenda announced that she was pregnant and Arthane was ecstatic at the news. He had always longed for a family, but with that bundle of joy, came fear. He couldn’t contemplate losing his child to the games. For then, though, he dismissed his fear. Soon their first daughter Bellamy was born and the couple were both overjoyed at her arrival. She was the perfect child and the two couldn’t ask for more. Gwenda’s second pregnancy was a shock though, because the two had decided that they didn’t want anymore children. So of course, the response to the twins birth was one of astonishment. It was also a blow to Gwenda, because with the twins’ birth, it meant that Arthane had to pull double-shifts to earn enough money to feed them. It was a tough time for the family for around two years, before Arthane was promoted to being a senior doctor and started to earn more.
After the promotion, things returned to normal for around six years. However shortly after the twins turned seven, Gwenda suddenly became ill. After a month of fighting the illness, Gwenda perished in her husband’s arms. Desperate to keep his family together Arthane agreed to marry a woman he didn’t love. It was the worst mistake he had ever made and each year before the Reaping, Bellamy would ask him to divorce her. However at the most recent Reaping, he promised her that he would.
