Mechanics

There are 5 rounds

Roll 2d8 each post
First dice is how hard you hit
Second dice is how hard the opponent hit
You want to roll higher than your NPC opponent.
If you roll a tie roll a tiebreaker between them (same as the above)

If you lose a match any matches you roll -for fun- afterwards cannot be counted towards points, but you can keep rolling spars!

Please fill in each of your posts with a small summary of how your spar went! It could be more than one hit, despite having only rolled one! Have fun with it!

It would prove to be a long hard fight, but if the horsewoman chosen as his opponent had thought the dragon easy prey she would find she was mistaken.

Sheridan had started on the attack, aggressively charging his opponent with a kick aimed to his opponent's chest. But she had not been so easy to catch of guard, catching his leg and blocking the attack.

He didn't miss a beat, a smirk as his tail lashed, sweeping the horsewoman off her feet as he twisted free from her block to stand a few feet away, his posture immediately lowered to a crouch, his hands raised in front of him, prepared to attack or defend.

The horsewoman hadn't stayed down long, quickly springing to her feet to launch her own attack, a series of blows aimed at the dragon's face and chest. She was swift, but so was he, the thick plate scales of his arms absorbing the damage of every blocked blow. A break, Sheridan threw a punch, only to have his fist caught in the horsewoman's grasp, she had blocked his strike.

It seemed they were locked that way, each snarling at the other, hands clasped as each tried to shove the over off balance and off their feet. A growl, his head reared back before surging forward to smack his antlered skull against hers. The blow sent the horsewoman staggering backward, and quick to seize on the opportunity, Sheridan leapt into the air, intending to land on his opponent with the full force of his weight and moment, to pin her to the ground and claim the match.

He had her pinned, his hands holding hers to the mat, his tail lashing, glaring down at her with a menacing snarl. A pin he was able to hold for only a moment, a firm kick aimed at his mid-section and he had been flipped over her head, their positions suddenly reversed.

I will not surrender!

His hands curled against her grasp, talons sinking into her hands to force her to release her hold. A hiss, his tail curled, lashing out in a powerful blow aimed straight at his opponent's side to knock her off balance and buy himself a break to escape and leap to his feet again.

A sharp intake of breath, now circling his opponent, he was growing tired, exhausted, he had fought hard, but there was a limit to his strength, and he was waning fast. In the end it was that exhaustion that would lose him the match. Too tired to match his opponent's speed, he found himself on the receiving end of several blows, and though he fought valiantly to the end, it was he who was knocked from the ring, unable to continue.

Panting, his chest heaving as he fought to catch his breath, he had lost, but he had fought hard, he had not surrendered. And though later he was certain to discover several new bruises and sore joints and muscles, he had found his strength. And maybe, just maybe, he had earned a little respect as well.

Day four:

It was a sense of curiosity, and desire to learn more about weapons combat that led him to the crafter's platform. The concept was fascinating and it was one he wished to explore further. While it was true he could have done so through further combat, it was the crafting that had captured his attention on that day. Perhaps in learning to create a weapon, he might come to better understand it, and thus improve his skills at wielding the weapon.

A difficult process to be sure, he still had much to learn. But the idea was sound, and he knew where to start. Taking that first step, finding the strength and resolve, that in the end was the hardest part.

Phase One: Weapon Creation

Create a weapon of War and test its mettle. If your craftsmanship is good, you may be victorious and gain the head Crafter's favor. For a minute or two, anyway.

In your first post, roll 3d4 to determine what your knife is made of, how well it is made, and how it is decorated.

First Dice: Material
- 1: Wood (+1 point)
- 2: Seashell (+2 points)
- 3: Bone (+3 points)
- 4: Stone (think flint or obsidian; +4 points)

Second Dice: Craftsmanship
- 1: You're in a bit of a hurry, so... (Shoddy: +1 point)
- 2: You throw something together. It looks kinda close? (Mediocre: +2 points)
- 3: You spend a bit of time on it, and come up with something okay. (Acceptable: +3 points)
- 4: You throw yourself into your work with passion, paying close attention to detail! (Awesome: +4 points)

Third Dice: Artistry
- 1: It's a knife. Does it really matter if it's pretty or not? (Ugly: +1 point)
- 2: You wrap the hilt in leather. Good enough. (Decent: +2 points)
- 3: You wrap the hilt in leather and add a feather. Pretty! (Shiny: +3 points)
- 4: You wrap the hilt in leather and add stylish strands of beads and feathering. That is one cool knife. (Stylish: +4 points)

Roleplay out your knife's creation! At the end of your post, put the specifics of your knife's creation (i.e. Shoddy Stylish Wood Knife) along with the total score (the total of your dice roll).

Phase Two: Weapon Testing

In the Clan of War, there is no such thing as a decorative blade! Even weapons destined to hang on the walls of huts are finished to battle-ready quality. You must test your knife and prove its worth, attacking the simple leathery mannequin kept in the Den for that purpose.

Take your knife's point score from the creation post. This is your knife's HP. You must now do battle until your knife breaks! The number of posts your knife survives determines the number of points you get.

To Do Battle:
Roll 2d4 in each post. The first dice indicates the number of damage your knife does to the test target (for RP flavor!). The second dice indicates the amount of damage your knife takes from the attack.

Battle ends when your knife shatters. Aw. (And yes, this means you can't take it with you. Sorry!)

Silently, the tip of his tail flickering with his thoughts, Sheridan explored the various materials laid through the hut. He may have seemed indecisive, picking up and handling various materials, almost painstakingly examining each one, testing the weight, feel, and balance.

In truth, it was not indecision, but rather careful debate, evidenced by the fact he never picked up the same piece twice. He simply did not wish to rush, he had to be certain of the piece he chosen (still, an impatient look from the craftswoman may have spurned him to move a little faster!).

After seemingly endless debate and exploration, his gaze at last fell on a fair sized reddish piece of hardwood. Carefully he examined the wood, testing the weight, examining the grain. It may not have seemed as strong as the stone he had used in his previous attempt, but it was light, smooth, and comfortable in his grip. A nod to himself, this would do nicely.

He settled near the edge of the platform, carving tool in one hand, future knife in the other. A small mark at first, testing the wood, the slightest sliver carved from the wood. Working with the grain of the wood, he began to carve in earnest, the twitch of his tail showing his concentration as he painstakingly shaped the blade, building the edge and sharp point, then further back creating the hilt. His current endeavor was proving far more successful than the first, the clear form of a well-crafted knife taking form in his hands.

A few final details, he set aside the carving tool, now looking over his knife with a bit of pride as he ran a talon along the edge of the blade. The last touch was the addition of a leather wrap around the hilt. It was not especially fancy, but it was comfortable in his grip and it complimented the wood of the knife well, or at least he thought it did.

A small smile and a nod of satisfaction, Sheridan stood to his feet, his knife was finished.

His tail twitched, eyes narrowed as he gazed at the leather target. It was time to test his knife. Though it looked nice enough, it wouldn't matter if it could stand up to use. What was the point of a weapon that shattered in your hands?

Speaking of shattering...

Holding the knife in his left hand, Sheridan brought the blade down on the dummy in a slash across the chest. Any satisfaction he felt at the torn fabric under his strike was quickly replaced with horror at the sound and feel of cracking wood in his grasp. Oh no, all the time he had spent, all the careful crafting, all of it rendered irrelevant by the split now running down the length of the blade.

Another strike, this time an upwards stab, plunging the blade into what may have been the target's throat. The blade's edge ripped through leather with a surprising ferocity. He would not have expected a wooden blade to tear through the target with such precision. It seemed even wood could be sharpened to a razor sharp edge.

Unfortunately that crack along the blade was only getting wider...

It had only been a matter of time. After the first crack had appeared, Sheridan knew the life of his knife was limited. The blade could simply not stand up to the strike, and though slash hit the target, the damage was already too much. Under the force of the blow, the crack in the blade would be its undoing, the knife shattering in his hand, the blade sheered from the hilt with a resounding snap.

He sighed in disappointment, there was nothing left to do but clean up the splintered remains and try again another time.

Day five:

He was tired, exhausted, as if the stress and excursion of the entire week had suddenly crashed down on him. More than ever he was aware of just how long the week had been. He was battered and bruised, his muscles were sore, his body ached. And though he held a sense of pride and new found strength in all he had learn, he was glad the week was coming to an end. It would be good to return to Halloween if only for a few days, to see his friends and rest, he'd even be glad to see his cat.

But tired though he was, he was not beaten, he would not give up or back down.

His tail twitched as he stood at the edge of the ring, a long bow held in one hand, a quiver of arrows slung across his back. Eyes narrowed, sizing up his opponent as she entered the ring. There was something electric in the air, an aura of mutual determination and respect. Sheridan was determined to use his new skills to defeat his opponent, and she equally determined to defeat him.

The battle started with an arrow in his hand, the shot quickly fired at his opponent, the blunt tip striking and knocking her back. But she was swift to recover, charging after the dragon as he rolled and ducked away, scrambling for the other side of the ring before firing another arrow in her direction.

The battle would continue in that manner, an arrow shot, followed by a charge, a close quarters struggle that left the dragon worse for wear, and then a quick retreat out of range and another arrow. But the pace was taking its toll, and in his exhaustion the dragon was slowing down, this time taking several more blows before escaping the clutches of his opponent.

By the time he was down to his last arrow, Sheridan was panting, his stance low to the ground as exhaustion took over. He drew back the last arrow, aimed, and let the arrow fly. But his opponent was swifter, more energetic, dodging the arrow and quickly closing the distance between herself and the dragon for a final time.

Using the bow as if it were a staff, he parried several strikes, blocking the horsewoman's powerful blows. But it was a pace he could not keep up, and under the assault of the speedier fighter, his defenses gave way, and though he willed himself to fight on, he was forced to admit defeat.
