Amarus' nose wasn't working very well, and she was feeling incredibly peculiar given she hadn't really had time to eat and her lotus aura was behaving strangely. It was a new environment, but she was doing more or less okay.
It was a little bit... too fancy, for Amarus. She was dressed in her normal clothing, too; even if she'd been to the dorms, she didn't have anything to change into. Oh well. They would have to live. She knew she'd heard Willow ask about a dress code earlier, anyway, and they'd politely (actually, it sounded kind of coarse, but Amarus wasn't really good with emotional differences) told her that since they weren't clans members they could dress however-- so long as it was appropriate.
Amarus sat near some of the snacks, wondering why Faustus had told her to text him, since she had no phone. And even if she did... he'd just left without giving anyone his number. Was that how the skellyphones worked? Because she'd never tried.
She picked up one of the snacks, and popped it in her mouth. What was up with that weird texture? Eih. It was a snack, she was a ghost, and she didn't really care at this point. At all. She just kept on chewing, and tried not to fall asleep in the tea room. She would feel a lot like a bum if that happened, given the elegance of her surroundings.
"At least it's food..." she said, mumbling faintly around the weirdly textured thing.

Having finished his training for the day, Faustus decided it was about time he checked in on Amarus and the others. He had told her to text him, and was worried that he had not heard from her yet. He carefully made his way around the bridges til he arrived at the tea and ceremony rooms. Actually a series of small, interlocking rooms, it seemed quite cozy. He stepped in, to find Amarus already seated and nibbling on a snack by one of the tables.
"Hello hello," he announced with a warm smile, coming up beside her. "I was wondering if you'd be here already. This place i-"
From the hall outside, the attendant gave the boil a few stern glares, along with a clearing of their throat. Faussi glanced around a bit nervously before lowering his voice as he took a seat at the table. "...As I was about to say, this is a lovely place. Nice and cozy-like. ... By the way, where's your friend??"

The waters under the bridges she made her way on were beautiful and tranquil, barely even looking as if they moved. Like ice, like what she was used to. But she knew it wasn't as cold even if it could be as cool to the touch as her own skin. Still, it was lovely to look at each time, causing her to pause several times as she made her trek. She even noticed the white lotus flowers that Oura had pointed out to her when they met at orientation. It brought a smile to her pale face.
Finally, the undead ghoul made her way towards the Tea Ceremony Rooms, all filled and bustling with clansmen chattering away in their odd languages. The decorum reminded her a little of the dorms, but at least better structured and not as much breaking. Better cared for, more ornate really. There was a garden too, or was it a garden? There were plants but the designs in the small pebbles made intricate patterns. Following the patterns of the landscapes that were littered about.
Her notebook was suddenly out, making notes about what she was seeing before her. Writings to expand on the Conquest island that she was now inhabiting for the week. The lists and words were getting so long now, already and it was only the first day. Her eyes followed the ink of her pen until she figured herself finished, and slipped the little green pad of paper into a pocket of her black dress. She needed to move on now even though she wanted to continue to stare.
Classmates were apparently waiting for her. Which seemed a little odd to her, but she made it into the halls and down them. Passing occupied rooms until she found the right room.
"They make patterns in the ground like the children do at home." She announced to them as she opened the door. Earning herself a few odd stern glances from passing clansmen. "There are also a lot of paper walls." Obviously they were thin here too, because she could hear some clearing of throats. Was she being loud?
Irony, that.

As luck would have it, Fastus apppeared at the entrance of the room she had been sitting in. By the time he got there, however, Amarus was already extremely sleepy, and drifting off. In fact, she had pushed some of the snack platters aside and had her face planted against the table. Her bells jingled softly every time she took a breath, her eyes closed.
She wasn't quite asleep-- yet. "Hello, Faustus," she greeted him. Her voice sounded distant, but at least a little softer than usual. Sleepy Amarus seemed to be a little less mean than normal Amarus. Not that she was mean, per se, it was just that being both a Lotus Eater and a ghost made her pretty mellow and that sometimes came across as emotionless.
"I wandered in, they have food here. Besides, the dorms... Well, let's just say I won't be spending more time in there than I have to," she said. They were just thin paper walls, and Valentino had already managed to tear through a ton of them. Thankfully, she hadn't claimed a room until after that mess, so at least she wouldn't have to deal with a Valentino-sized hole through her room. Well, unless he was still at it...
She sat up straight, when she realized he wasn't going to leave this soon, and stretched with a yawn. The guards outside seemed to be pretty stern about noise. Weird. Was this an entire clan that lived in silence? How boring. Amarus was kind of quiet herself, most days, but when she got excited about something she liked to show it. "My friend?...Do you mean Willow?" Faustus had walked up to them when she was in a group of maybe four or five students. She had only known one of them to any degree which she might possibly call "friendship," and that was her old teammate Willow. After all, she had died with them.
Amarus was not ... really certain why the ghoul who entered was talking aloud to herself. Still, they appeared to be more or less alone in the tea rooms at the moment, and Amarus would be happy to have any non-horseman company. Even if she was the only one who hadn't yet been shushed. She put a finger up to her lips, and beckoned the undead ghoul over to sit with them. "Tea?" she asked the ghoul, when she was close enough.
Turning to Faustus suddenly, she remembered why she had been surprised to see him in the first place. "Faustus, I don't even own a skellyphone, so it's just luck we ran into each other again." Yeah, she had to be the only student she knew who didn't have one. She just... did not understand them. Or even how to get one. The maul, maybe? She'd only been there once, and that was to fight a giant gingerbread house.[[ OOC: P.S. Did you guys want us to have the chance of a GM interaction? Because if so, I will put up a ! for us o uo]]

Faustus smiled at her greeting, reaching for one of the pushed-aside snacks. This was probably the first time since arriving that he had come across actual food, and to his famished taste buds that first bite tasted all too good. "The dorms?? ... I haven't been back yet, did something happen??"
He arched a brow curiously as he finished his snack. "Oh, Willow is it?? I didn't catch her name, so much was happening. Everyone was gathered around watching and getting their hair braided, then ..." Faussi's voice trailed off. Then that powerful boil had appeared. He didn't know him, but he recalled seeing him at the Amityville assembly. Faussi's instincts told him that boil must be one of the royal family. A horseman maybe?? ... Realizing the silence between them, he lifted his gaze back up to meet Amarus's and smiled innocently. "Well, then we were all dismissed, and everyone went scurrying."
The flame demon perked at the sight of the newcomer as she approached the table. "Hello. I'm Faustus, and this is Amarus." He smiled kindly. "Have a seat." He patted the floor beside them.
He turned back to Amarus as she spoke, and his face reddened slightly. She didn't even have a phone, he should have realized. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize ..."
Taking a second snack, he pulled at it between his clawed fingers, tearing it apart without eating it. His thoughts kept wandering back to this strange clan. They seemed friendly enough by appearance, but something about them seemed so very cold, menacing almost. He lowered his voice even more and leaned closer. " By the way ... what do you guys think of this place?? ... It seems a little calm, too calm in my opinion. And there are guards and attendants everywhere, but I've only seen a few citizens around."
{{I would love that! Something to stir things up and move the plot forward.}}

The names she was provided didn't sound familiar to her, leading Olivia to wonder who had requested her to come - or if that note was misleading in some ways, was it even meant for her? Oh well. These two seemed like nice enough, not at all bothered by her sudden appearance; at least not visibly. The duo even seemed inviting.
"Sorry for... just barging in, I suppose." The pale ghoul smiled awkwardly, making her way to where the demon had patted the ground. "I'm Olivia, it's nice to meet you both."
She simply listened in silence as the two engaged in conversation while she situated herself on the floor, tucking her legs beneath her and getting lost at the display on the low table. There were foods she had never seen before and of course the tea, which he simply waved a hand to. Hot drinks never did agree with her. The snacks though, Olivia gingerly picked at one before breaking off a piece to chew on.
To say the least, it was interesting. And weird.
"It's really pretty here," Was her first simple response to Faustus after she got over the texture of the food, "maybe they are the citizens?" Possible, right? Olivia shrugged as she broke another piece of the food with her fingers.

Amarus pushed one of the plates closer to him automatically as he reached out for a snack. "You'll see-- it depends on what they did about it, anyway. One of the students... didn't react well to being in a room full of paper doors." In truth, he'd torn straight through half the walls near him, while Willow and Xiu amongst others tried to calm him down. A fiasco Amarus was quite happy to avoid.
She paused for a moment, laughed, and then said, "Everyone was braiding Junko's hair, just hers; she is our vice president, so I guess making her hair pretty is a high priority." Then, more seriously, she added: "Junko has always been kind to me. I just don't really do the hair-braiding thing." She grimaced, which was not an altogether attractive expression on her, and looked back at the snacks again.
Amarus didn't tease him about not knowing she had no phone. After all, she was the one who was severely behind in technology. Nobody she knew ever needed to text her anyway; she was just always around somehow. Kind of creepy. Mostly because if she wasn't sleeping out of sheer boredom, she was seeing what trouble she could get into. Anything to alleviate the boredom and shock herself awake.
Amarus reached for a second snack at the same time as Faustus, nearly knocking into him. She shook her head at herself, bells ringing, and dragged one of the other plates she'd pushed away closer to her. May as well eat something, now that she was more awake. "It feels very naturally calm, I guess," she said. After all, calm was Amarus' very essence. That was why she appeared to have no emotions, sometimes. Just waves and waves of calm.
"...but it's too quiet, yes," she admitted. When her bells were the loudest sound in the room, that was a significant problem. "I don't think they're the citizens, Olivia. They don't seem to be, anyway. I don't think. Ah, who knows," Amarus leaned back, her weight on her palms behind her, legs crossed.
She eyed the tea suspiciously. "I haven't had tea since I was in King's dorm room. What does this stuff taste like, do you think?"
More importantly, when would something interesting happen? Half of her wanted to pick up a teapot and hurl it at a wall.

Faustus nearly choked on the snack in his mouth, striking a fist to his chest to help it go down as he listened to Amarus's words. "Great Jack, I'm so glad I wasn't there. I've been at the training grounds all day." Inwardly, Faussi hoped his room hadn't been one of those damaged. But if it had ... well, he'd deal with that later.
Faustus chuckled at Amarus's statement. He wondered though, what it was about hair braiding she didn't like, but thought better of asking. Instead, he decided to reach for another snack. After almost bumping into her, he jerked back suddenly, blushing a bit before dropping his gaze. The sound of Amarus's bells jingled loudly through the quiet room as she spoke up again. It wasn't til that moment he realized how quiet the ghoul seated beside them had been. "Sorry if we're leaving you out." he smiled a bit sheepishly. "What's your name by the way??"
"I'm not sure ..." Faussi responded to Amarus's question. "I've honestly never had anything to drink in my life. It's a flame demon thing. Our species isn't made to consume liquids." He coughed lightly, voice lowering. "Though I may have sampled some water before, in a slightly steamy manner ... awful though, it has no real taste." His nose twitched almost disdainfully.
Feeling bored himself, the demon pulled a plate to him, picking up three fairly rounded snacks. "Watch this." He grinned, tossing one into the air, as he caught it in his other palm. He tossed the second right after, alternating both snacks for a moment before adding in the third, soon juggling all three between his palms, a good three feet high. "Not bad, eh??"

Olivia carefully continued to work on the same single tea snack she had picked up, curiously watching as the other two seemed to pop them into their mouths one after another.
She really wasn't sure how else to respond to Amarus about the citizens, her knowledge of them just as lacking and probably theirs. It was indeed hard to tell, and they probably had only so much access to the island being students.
Her thoughts were halted when Faustus asked for her name, she gave him a confused look for a moment as she had already given it, but repeated it all the same, "It's Olivia." At least she didn't seem annoyed with saying it twice. "A-and it's fine, I like listening to you talk about the others and such. Are you all students at Amityville together?" The ghoul was very tempted to bring out her notebook once again to write down what she was learning about the others and press on information...
But she heard the word 'flame' and her eyes grew a little bit wider, her lips pulled into a frown and she found herself scooting a little further from Faustus even though he was putting up a wonderful juggling act.

She arched a brow at Faustus as he nearly choked on a biscuit. "All day at the training grounds and you were still nearly bested by a snack?" she teased, the tracings of a smile across her face. It was nice being able to almost feel things. It wasn't so bad on this isle. Amarus finally really understood what Faustus'd said, though; why would he ever want to spend all day at the training grounds? It was a bunch of dancing, some kind of weird book-block-incense-sniffing exercise, etiquette, and something Amarus couldn't even remember. Not her idea of training at all. She was used to gruelling battle-training, not... such cute things.
But maybe she was just annoyed because she was so naturally bad at them all. Annoyed for now, determined later; she would vanquish these tasks, and become the best. At everything. Well, that was what she always aspired to do, anyway. Amarus elbowed Faustus with a snort as he asked for Olivia's name. Once that had been settled, and she'd repeated her name (she looked pretty obliging, actually) Amarus returned to the conversation at hand. "Flame demon, gotcha," she answered. If he was a demon, wasn't she naturally supposed to be uncomfortable around him? Hm. Amarus reached across and grabbed one of the teapots and slid two cups over. "In that case-- would you like some, Olivia?" She poured tea for herself, and Olivia if she accepted, taking a sip of her own tea. She had to try hard not to grimace. It tasted.. nice? To Amarus, it tasted like leaf-water. What was the appeal in this flavour?
"I'm from Amityville, yeah. I've been in my first year for what feels like too long, now. I don't know about Faustus, though; I've never seen him at the Academy." Amarus looked to him for his own answer. The ghoul seemed... a little fragile. Amarus did the only thing she knew to do, watching Faustus juggle and Olivia recoil from.. something. What was the ghoul recoiling from, anyway? Well, regardless, Amarus darted out one hand nimbly and stole one of the snacks, tossing it up into her mouth. She caught it like her foxfire, Ashbel, caught his food.
She grinned at Olivia and Faustus, swallowed the snack, and added a "Woof," for good measure. "Are you two the kind who like to stay out of trouble?" she wondered, "Because I heard we can get into the archives... well, we're allowed in. But who knows what we can find out, there?"

Faussi smiled at Amarus's teasing before teasing back. "Well you know, they say a boil's stomach is his weakness."
"Oh, sorry about that." The demon apologized to the quiet ghoul beside him. "I've been so caught up in this place today, I haven't taken the time to remember names well."
He watched the two sip their tea for a moment, before Olivia brought up the subject of schools. "I'm actually a guest," he answered. "I attend Skullsbrooke, it's a private academy, not that well-known. I might be transferring soon though."
He noticed Olivia flinch slightly beside them and scoot a bit closer to Amarus as their conversation continued. Had it been something he said?? ... She had seemed perfectly fine before. He pondered asking her about it.
The demon gave a start as Amarus quickly snatched and downed one of his juggling snacks. He was about to protest, when her sudden question piqued his interest. "Actually, I've been wondering that ... the Conquest Clan is richly decorated, I'll give them that much, but all this serenity is, well, quite frankly boring. And the more I think of it, the archives would be a lovely place to get some information, at least on this 'culture' we're supposed to be learning." He grinned slyly now, bright orange eyes sparkling with eagerness as he leaned closer over the table. "I'm in."

It seemed terribly impolite to decline tea when it was already served, Olivia figured, so she pulled the cup a little closer to her being as mindful as she could with the heat of it. "Thank you, I'll probably wait for it to cool down a little though," she said to Amarus. "I'm... not very fond of hot things."
That perhaps would also explain her reaction to Faustus, they had noticed right? She was sure they did, but it was hard not to react in such a way. Usually she wasn't embarrassed by her behavior, but now she could feel it just a little. Him being a fire based demon probably should have been something the ghoul should have picked up on right away, with the way he looked. But, it was all done now.
Picking her gaze off the table, she settled it back to the other two. The two seemed to have a mind for an adventure right now. While trouble was mentioned, following was always in her nature. "I wouldn't mind going." Cautiously, she rested a finger against her tea cup to see if was more to her liking and dared a small sip.

Made sense. Neil liked food, too; Amarus didn't particularly care either way. She just never had much of an appetite. Skullsbrooke... she'd never heard of it. But that made sense, given she was a ghost who'd appeared to the Amityville students when they'd entered the Haunted House. She didn't know where she'd come from, or how she manifested there, but that was the case. That was one reason why she had no idea how to use a skellyphone.
"There's no way they're as serene as they seem," Amarus added. She couldn't believe that at all. So she was thrilled when not only did Faustus agree to go, he also looked excited about it.
Olivia less so. At least she'd said yes, though. Amarus stood to her feet, and offered her arm to Olivia. "Shall we? It seemed like you weren't big on the tea, anyway. Oh, should we bring some snacks for later?" Before she would really head out, Amarus grabbed one of the nice napkins, folded a bunch of snacks into it, and tucked it somewhere inside her outer robe. As an afterthought, she tipped the rest of her tea back and put the cup back down empty. "Now we're prepared, and I didn't waste my leaf-water."
On her way out, the horseman there pointed out she was not wearing the proper footwear. Weird. Why didn't he just tell her that in the first place? In truth, she never wore shoes at all, and she didn't really walk on the ground, so she wasn't sure why anyone would care what footwear she had on.

Amarus thought she saw something glinting in the floor, as she stopped to look at the lack of slippers she had on. However, it was just a trick of the light. Too bad. Shrugging, she headed back on her way; the horseman couldn't really get annoyed at her if she was leaving, after all.
Next time, she supposed she could put on the appropriate footwear. Why did they have so many rules here.
