It was almost her last day with the adara. Amarus approached the birds, much as she always did. This time, she was able to offer the bird she chose a perfect bow; it dropped a feather in thanks. There was something about this bird that seemed remarkably familiar, though... She dismissed it, thinking she'd just seen far, far too many adaras at this point to know the difference.
Maybe she'd have better luck with this adara than she had with the last one. Hopefully. That thing was psychotic.

The adara ... was displaying remarkable similarities to the one she'd trained with just the day before, actually. Because when she went to offer it crackers, it took a cracker, and two-timed her with another student for some water. And an extra cracker. The little feathered jerk. Where was the loyalty? Where was the love?
Here she was, bringing them food and water, bowing, talking to them, and these little jerks could just turn their backs on her so callously! ... Really she was not thinking that about all of them, just the one whom she had likely gotten twice in a row now, because it seemed like a crazy jerk.
Maybe she was wrong, though! Maybe it would get better?...

"So... tell me about your life? What has being an adara done for you in the past?" Amarus asked the bird, awkwardly. Yeah, it was definitely the same bird, because it seemed absolutely mortified she had asked it that. The exact same thing the one from the day before had done.
And, just like the day before, it had waddled off, perturbed, dropping a second feather which she could keep. At least she'd gotten something out of it, she supposed. She longed for the mild-mannered birds of her early training days!..
