Are you overwhelmed by the massive amount of items Gaia has and you don't know what to buy? Looking for new items to try out that you might have never considered before?

Cheapies

RIP Conan
Can you believe that this used to be expensive? If you ever need a moon for your avatar but don't want to spend a lot, or if you want a cheap wig to play with, this is probably the cheapest one you can find, for a measly 5-100 gold. Sometimes you can also find one for free in the Daily Chance or Dumpster Dive.

Sword Sash
This item also comes in blue and orange, and are usually around 3k-6k.

Stone Guardian Mask
Probably some of the best looking wings you'll find for the price! For normally less than 10k, they don't look that bad. This item also has a mask but I'm sure the wings are much more suitable.

Green Corallus Egg
If you like snakes, this green snake item is normally less than 10k. There is also a cheaper alternative which is the 2nd generation, and it still has the same poses. Gaia does not have a large selection when it comes to snakes, and I must say that this is one of the best ones.

Ninja Sword
A simple, affordable sword that can be equipped a variety of ways. It's a great sword item for the newbie Gaian on a budget. It's sort of like a cheap knockoff of some similar swords in Ancient Katana and Yama no Tamago.

Nightmare Bustier and Angelic Camisole
Two very simple, affordable angelic/demonic corset-like items that are worth considering. They both match a lot of items and can be used with many things. They are both less than or around 10k each.

Street Fighter IV Megapack
A great item that includes spiked bracelets and a cool golden clawed glove. Usually around 10k, I highly recommend this item for the spiked bracelets, which go well with pretty much any dark/gothic themed outfit.

Wonderful Green Wizard
A gorgeous item with nice pants, a coat, vest and accessories for only around 10-15k or sometimes less. Great for anyone that likes mystical avatars or just wants a nice green coat.

Long-Stem Red Rose
A great affordable rose that goes with any romantic outfit. This also comes in other colors such as black and pink, but the price varies greatly.

The Big Top
A very cute white/red/yellow circus themed outfit that can be used for a variety of things.

Angelic Headband and Nitemare Headband.
While they're not exactly wings for your back, these two headbands are great accessories for any angelic or demonic avatar. Nitemare Headband is much more expensive than the other but is still an item worth owning.

Conqueror's Winter
A cool item with a nicely done sword sash, coat, vest, hat, and boots. Well worth it and can be used with many things.

Sir Percy
An ornate sword, coat, and vest. Only 16k and pretty worth it.

Heavenly Drapes
A cute item that wraps your avatar in silky white cloth. It works well for a lot of innocent angelic outfits and is only about 20k or less.

Foot Soldier's Blade
A standard sword item. it can't be placed on your waist and back, but for 20k it's a great, simple sword for anything you can think of.

Le Saltimbanque
An item with really cool, nicely detailed trousers.

Little Princeling
Another great item with a detailed coat, pants, boots and hat.

Mascherato
This item features two choices of masks and head wear with intricate detailing and popular color schemes. For normally about 20k, this is a great buy to give your avatar that unique, unusual look that reminds people of jesters.

Celaeno
One of my personal favorite corset items. Many corset items are pretty pricey, but this one is only around 25-30k. If you also like bird stuff, then this is a great choice.

Cockerel's Waltz
An interesting red/black/yellow item with a neat gun, coat, and spurs.

Black Album
A fun little Death Note inspired item with many potential uses.

Blue Heavenly Unmentionables
Great fancy underwear for males and females. Also comes in black and white.

Envious Night Jewel
Envious Night Jewel and the other colors are great for that dramatic, dark expression. For about 30k for the red and green versions this is certainly one of the most handy items out there.

Leopard Couture
Cute leopard print items for around 30-40k.

Gift of the Goddess
An absolute all-time favorite! The shoes are very versatile and all of the poses have beautiful, unique colors.

Lightning Lash
A cool black/gold whip and sword, with poses that include lightning.

Pirate Sando's Vest
Traditional pirate clothing that can be worn in many ways. Usually around 40k.

Layla and Majnun
Two great side-by-side MC items with nice detailing and colors. I'd recommend both of them as they both have wonderful poses that work with many outfits.

Unconventional Warrior
A great military themed item for only about 40k.

Pride of Hera
This is a beautiful MC with a stunning blue and green dress, which is one of my favorites. Only about 40k and a great item to play with.

Norseman's Expedition
Essentials for any aspiring Norse warrior. Includes cool backgrounds, an arrow to the knee, and other cool poses.

Superior Form
A sibling of Uncanny Form, Superior Form has cool skins to make your avatar really stand out.

Buttercream Rose
A variation of Vanilla Buttercream Rose and Mint Buttercream Rose. Great for tasty lolita avatars.

BuBu Kitty Plushie
Probably one of the cutest cat items and pretty cheap, considering how cute it is and how popular cats are on Gaia.

The Watchmaker 3rd Gen.
The third generation of any REI is something to watch for since they're usually significantly cheaper than the original two generations. This one happens to be around 50-70k and is full of great steampunk style clothes.

Enchanted Strings
One of my favorite MCs, Enchanted Strings lets you play your favorite string instruments, including a violin and a guitar. Personally, my favorite pose has to be the violin playing pose. It's only 60k and a pretty good item to have around, especially for music enthusiasts.

Silver Revolver
Silver Revolver is your standard gun, and works with many different outfits. Its price fluctuates between 40k and 70k, so if you're looking to buy keep an eye on the price or try to buy it in Prize & Joy with tickets. Overall a nifty item to have.

Maquillage
Face paint/tattoo items like Maquillage are always handy to have in your inventory to give your avatar an extra touch of creativity. With multiple tattoos to choose from, this item will certainly bring a fresh burst of beauty into whatever avatar you make.

Apep Cobra Armor
About 70k is not a bad price for this item considering similar sets are a few hundred thousand gold or more. The red/black/gold theme is great and can work with many avatars.

Great Old One
For a pair of demonic-like wings, Great Old One is your best bet. It's price has dropped to around 75k and is nifty for those that like demonic or dark avatars.

Antique Keymaster
The companion MC to Royal Keymaster, Antique Keymaster has gorgeous, elegant clothing, including boots, pants, a hooded cloak and coat. The intricate detailing and cream/black color scheme lets you use this item in many, many ways.

Masterpieces
Can't afford White Body Dye? The Masterpieces marble skin pose is the next best thing, aside from Lumiere Noire. You can use certain eye contact items to also get rid of the eyeless look the skin gives you. Also, the embroidered mantle pose is great to use for Christmas avatars. Overall, a great item to have.

Oculus Magica and Oculus Mythica
Two MCs entirely devoted to giving you crazy, creative eyes and for only around 80-90k? Why should you buy these? These two are some of my favorite items and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for something to give them that extra 'oomph' on their avatar. Items that let you change your eyes without going to Salon Durem are some of the most popular and the most useful to have.

Expensive but well worth it

Tip: If the item is an evolving item, try to look for other generations that are cheaper than the first generation. Unless the item is not done evolving, the other generations will have the same poses you're looking for, but for a cheaper price!
Another Tip: Wait until a new evolving item is finished evolving and/or out of the Cash Shop before you buy it. Newer items tend to be more expensive due to hype and everyone scrambling to get their hands on them. Once they're done evolving and all of the generations have the same poses, they all settle around an average price that doesn't change much. People often waste thousands in gold by buying items when they're brand new. Don't let that be you! Wait a little longer and I promise
that you'll be satisfied - you'll have the item and some gold left over, too!

Masquerade
What more could you need than an entire evolving item of makeup and bangs at your disposal? The price on these ranges from around 500k-800k depending on generation but the poses are the same. This comes with blush, mascara, bangs, and lipstick, in nearly every color you wish, as well as more fun poses to play with.

Gogh Reed
The little fruit of thought that could never make up its mind- Gogh Reed. Gogh Reed has some elemental/nature inspired clothing and some pretty fun, wacky poses. The possibilities are nearly endless with Gogh Reed, and this item has some of the cutest and most beautiful clothing, skins, eyes and hair. The Zero Hair, the most popular pose, is probably the icing on the cake. For around 600-700k you can grab this item and see just how amazing it is.

Dappy Dandy, Hidden Ace, Reve Rouille
I like to call these three EIs 'The Best of 2009'. Why? They're some of the most brilliantly done evolving items I've seen, and they're all from 2009. They all have beautiful clothes and accessories, hair, eyes, and popular color schemes. I'd recommend them to anyone and they are sure to be a part of your inventory for a long time.

Compass of Seidh
This evolving item, based on Norse mythology, features gorgeous clothing, armor, weaponry, hair, eyes, companions, accessories like belts and anklets, and even some backgrounds. It's by far my favorite evolving item ever made and has some of the best detailing I've ever seen. For around 900k-1 mil it's absolutely worth the price.

Sainte Ciel Agape
It has far less poses than the other evolving items, yet it's so insanely expensive. Why? It's the companion to Sainte Ciel Eros and Rosamund's Revenge, two equally popular REIs. Before Rosamund's Revenge, it was about 400k. Out of those three I highly suggest getting this one the most, which not only has cute hair and a facial expression, but for the scissors pose, which cuts off some of the hair on your avatar when you equip it. This gives you far more customization than before. Why not test it out?

Zodiacal
Cute clothes, body mods, eyes, hair, and more. What more could this evolving item have to make it even more popular? For about 1.5 mil you can enjoy it yourself and use the plethora of amazing clothes and accessories!
