Barren and broken, weeing from scorched wounds, the supple flesh of the hills and plains surrounding the Worm God's temple mountain, was raped by the machines of war. Silence and death blanketed the horizon, leaving only those under unholy protection alive.
The wind whipped and battered banner stood as a constant reminder of what was out there. It felt like ice in your chest just thinking about it. Toiling away beneath their mountain, those sworn to desolation work vile festering magics. Pitiful attempts to appease their indifferent black god.
The Quest for immortality is a savage one, at least it is for the poor. That was the ultimate promise, under that constant glowing stare all one could think of was eternity.
Then came The Sacrifice, the grand deceit, Before us all that smoking black scar on the earth was suddenly illuminated with all the holiness of the weapons of man, and with that sacred fire the flesh of the wicked melted away.
The World then grew complacent. Standing unaware of the poison that flowed within. The Worm God had become wise in his years, he knew that his direct fashion would get him nowhere, so he simply seemed to remove himself from the equation.
Much of what went on after that was much of the same that has always gone on. Night followed day and life went on. The big difference was that Servants of the Worm, The Worm Reborn, found their ways into power all across the glittering globe.
Names and places are of no importance. All that must be said is that one force triggered and event that brewed hatred in the opposition. Servants of the Worm fueled this hatred until the entire world was on an all out Jihad upon itself.
The World Burned, so it goes.
What the Worm God did not know, was that his flock was not the only secret society operating at that time. A far more ancient, though nearly broken, league foresaw the events and did all that was in their power to ensure the Worm God didn't get the last laugh.
As the Bombs fell, the Elders were forced to hurry, selecting a few people nearly at random from the City of Sovelii. Though they were unable to brief them on the purpose, these people were successfully torn from their lives, torn from the face of impending doom and thrown into stasis. Tucked safely into the earth by these strange masters who simply whispered that everything would be alright.
The earth aged, it felt the coming and goings of nuclear winter. It felt the sun grow ever so slightly hotter, changing the face of the planet. It felt a brief sadness for the memories of that once bustling civilization that was suddenly consumed by nature. Though to clarify, not all of mankind was destroyed. The Worm God lived, and brought his followers with him, though they could hardly be considered men much long as the wheel turned. Demons more like. But beneath them were the slaves, and though radiation and an ever changing world changed people, there were still countless remnants of mankind, though they were certainly not very well off.
Now, though the sun never shines through the constant black and angry clouds, the world is hot and the air itself feels slimy. All sentient beings bow before the glory of the Worm God who lives in his vile fortress in the Dark Lands. It is a thankless existence. Life is taught to be seen as a privileged that can be taken away, but folks know better. Life really isn't worth living. They only reason they go on is because they know ending it before one's time will lock their souls into eternal service to their Lord.
It is here that our tale will begin, the first chapter opens with the awakening of people who came from a better time, before war, before the blackening of the skies, people who do not yet know that they hold the power to save everything, the world and all of it's new denizens.
And just before awakening them, the souls of the Elders of the Illuminated Seers, spoke to those they had sealed away. These beings had been watching the world change, learning all they could to help those who had the power to change it. With their final strength. just before releasing their captives....
They said...
And So It Came To Pass...
The End
