I'm in this roleplay. Phantom, roleplay, very dreaded that I didn't get to play Erik. x.x; It's like I can't roleplay PotO if I'm not Erik, because I'm soooo deathly picky about his character.
Anyway. The person that is playing Erik swears on the movie and declares it better than Broadway. x.x; I mean, he's nice, but I'm soooo dreadfully torn between leaving the roleplay or not. I play as Raoul (which is a nice change.) and keep him in character, I do say so myself. But, it's annoying when you have a very ... sweet ... honey-coated Erik instead of the one we've all grown to love. It's hard to be sweet Raoul and be out-sweetened by Erik over here, who's really not supposed to be like that!
GAAAAH.
IT'S LIKE SOME OVER-SWEETENED TEA. D: And it's gross!
So, I guess the excuse of 'Christine softening him' is there in the air, but that's no real good excuse, is it? Whether you're going off the book, movie, or musical, she had left for a long period of time, and couldn't really 'soften him'. So he's here all actin' sweet and I'm like 'wth' and am confused on if I'm correct in over-reacting, or being stupid and should shut my pie-hole. There is violence to Raoul via Erik, jealousy, so on ... but I don't know.
I NEED HELP.
Some advice, guys? D':

My only real advice is, if it bothers you that much, why don't you just leave the role-play? Or discuss it with the player?
Though, keep in mind, everyone wants to play Erik in a role-play. 90% of the time, when someone starts a Phantom of the Opera-themed role-play, it is so they can play Erik. Perhaps you'll get your chance next time. Not everyone is going to view Erik the same way as you; sometimes you need to learn to tolerate it.

Giry. XD But Fuoko has a point. If it really bothers you, PM the player and try explaining to him what you dislike and ask kindly if he'd, for the love of God, play the real Erik and not the candy-coated Gerry-clone. Yeah, that was a tad harsh. Forgive me. And if the player won't do it, either leave or swallow it. Not everyone who plays Erik is good at it, but a lot of people want their time in the proverbial limelight as the masked man.

I am also not one to really wanna pay Erik...because I know people who can do a good Erik.
But yes....if it really irritates you that much, leave the RP or just PM the mods or something and let them know. However, you can always look at it as a way to get better at RPing in general.
Good luck.

Raoul... outsweetened by Erik? Blasphemy! Either talk to the guy or run away as fast as you can.

Utakan I guess I'm the other 10%. I like playing Nadir or Mme. Giry. XD Heh I applied for Raoul once and got the Persian... now I like playing him...((unfortunately SOME rpgs don't allow a Persian crying ) Anywho... sometimes you don't get the parts you originally want and you find yourself with another character... But if you focus on playing the character as well as you can, sometimes you develop affection for that role... As for the super sweet Phantom.... Think of it as an Alternate Universe Phantom.... Heck if Marvel can get away with multiple versions of their characters... a super sweet Phantom shouldn't be tooo hard to conceptualize. (Although I do prefer my Phantoms to be sometimes violent and my Raouls to be the 1800s style dream guy. {Which I believe was the intention of Leroux...})

Yeah, I think PMing the player would be best.
I'm only in one RP... It's a one-on-one, so I play Erik and Nadir.
Currently, Erik is treating Raoul's gun wound with a red-hot poker, (because it's no fun to kill injured people) and Nadir's drugged so he won't overexert himself.
