Early History
In the beginning, Terre d'Ange was little more than a collective of families banded together for mutual protection and aid. Everyone knew everyone, and they were a friendly lot, but had no name for themselves. When Blessed Elua and his Companions arrived in the lands, they were welcomed with open hearts and warm smiles. And the trust of the 'pride' was rewarded, as the group mingled with the 'pride' freely, teaching them many, many things. Eventually, they all came to look to the 'angels' as their leaders and, in time, their gods. And Blessed Elua gave them but one law: 'Love as thou wilt'.
It is said that after several generations had come and gone within the pride, the Highest Goddess sent a messenger to offer Her grandson a place in Her heavens. He declined, taking Cassiel's obsidian dagger and slicing his paw. He informed the messenger that because heaven was bloodless and he was not, he would not go there. And the Terre-d'Ange-that-lies-beyond was created for he and his Companions, and the 'pride' took on the name of Terre d'Ange. With the departure of Elua and his Companions, one of his many children was chosen to take his place as leader, and it is from this lion that House Courcel is descended from.

Recent History
Many, many generations passed after Elua and his Companions' departures, the land experiencing little in the way of strife and hardship. They seemed truly blessed, with the Royal Army turning away those that did threaten them, and the land never failing them. They even seemed to avoid the plague that overtook other prides.
But it was not to last. During the reign of King Ganelon, four tragedies happened. The first was the death of his mate during the youth of their son Rolande. The second was the death of Rolande's first mate Edmee, a death that seemed to scream of foul play. The third was a battle with a neighboring pride that led to the death of Rolande himself. Luckily for the pride, Rolande and his second mate Isabel had a daughter, Ysandre. She became the Dauphine, something Isabel was immensely proud about. The fourth tragedy was the poisoning of Isabel. Ganelon was left the only parental figure to young Ysandre, and he tried to be a good father.
It was then that outside forces decided to move in, that the pride was ripe to invade. They took one province at a time, the occupants either enslaved, driven into the rogue lands, or driven into L'Agnace. Until finally, what was left of the pride was concentrated in L'Agnace. And it was there that they managed to gain a standstill. Though their enemies surrounded them, they were no longer being attacked. Yet.
It was during the takeover that King Ganelon died, Ysandre being forced to take the throne in her late adolescence.
