Melody giggled as she leaned closer to him. His breath and kisses tickled her neck. She was comfortable against him, but she could help finding herself being cautious. Lifting his and she placed a long string with something soft attached at the end.
"I wanted to be your gift, but I remember last time all too well still. So I'll be here eagerly awaiting your return." Closing his hand around her present before kissing his knuckles. "This belong to my grandparents, and then to my parents. My mother once gave my father the matching one, so I don't know what happened to it. Since you gave me a lovely feather for my birthday, I want to present you with one as well." It was a long worn necklace with a small blue feather attached at the end. "I wish I had the pair, but I guess he took off with it long before I came around, still something like this will let you always find your way back to me."
"And to show that you are spoken for, and not to get any funny ideas."

Hataru looked at the token she placed so tenderly in his hand. Looking at the necklace, his eyes trailed along the woven bands of leather, knowing that it definitely wasn't something that someone just found at the store.
Instinctively, he wanted to give it back. He didn't deserve such a precious gift. Even if he was spoken fore and loved that she was willing to lay everything on the line for that relationship, he couldn't help think that he was unworthy of it. And maybe that was what he really feared all this time, that she'd wake up one day, realize that her life had a much higher success rate if she just ran as fast as she could from him, and disappear. Of course, the wolf inside chided him for this weakness. They had already claimed her, there was nothing in thinking otherwise. It was a waste of time.
"I don't get funny ideas," he countered with a smile as he slipped the necklace over his head so that the feather settled even with his collarbones. Running a finger down the feather, he then looked at her directly. Golden wolf eyes locked onto hers, so she knew that it was most heartfelt when he spoke.
"Thank you. I will cherish it all of my days."

"I was referring to the merchant girls that like to oogle you in the market place." She replied with an amused smile, doubting he even noticed the attention. When he gave her that look and spoke it made her heart melt. Truly she wanted nothing more that to be with him for all her days.
"I'm happy you like it." She replied with a small blush before reaching up to kiss him. Lingering for a moment before lazily resting on him. Cherishing as much of their time as she could. Nervous of what the next few days would bring them, and what trails would await her.
Melody let out a happy sigh, enjoying his warmth like she did most evenings. Now that the world was getting ready for her annual rest.
"You'll look forward to the presents that await you once you get home, right Hataru?" Melody wasn't much of a tease, but she was always eager to hear if he thought about her. Even if they had been living together since summer, it hadn't even been a year since their meeting. Melody had a hard time thinking back to before Hataru showed up for his first day on his ranch. Her world had become so small and isolated, that it was hard to get herself up in the mornings. Now here she was in his arms giving him one of her most prized possessions, but seeing him wear it made her heart flutter.
Reaching up for another kiss, she smiled and brushed some stray hair from his eyes. "I love you, Hataru."

" They do? "he responded innocently enough, but his eyes crinkled with the mirth of mischief. " I hadn't noticed." He didn't really care what the girls in town thought. They were nothing to him, even less to his wolf. All glowed dimly compared to the light that was his Melody.
Hataru was content for a while, resting with Melody curled up with him. Just enjoying each others company. But he knew it was going to be short lived. Before he could suggest that he leave, she surprised him by confessing there was more to look forward, upon his return.
When she murmured her endearing words, he folded her up in a tight embrace and kissed her passionately. No one had left such an impression on him as this woman did. He was sure he'd either learn to grow from her example, or she'd be his downfall. Either way, he'd gladly accept his fate.
"I need to go," he admitted reluctantly, while his hands ran along the sides of her body distractedly. The wolf within was churning in his stomach, making him feel nauseous and light-heated, but this time at least he was without the intense brutishness that normally accompanied it. The beast wanted out, but it hadn't worked up a fury yet.

It is presumed by anyone that cares.
Melody and Hataru at some point comes across Melody's birth father that was the mysterious suitor leaving white roses by her door on White Day. He was leaving them for her mother whom he did not know had passed let alone given birth to his daughter. Shortly after Melody's mother became pregnant her father was bitten and became a werewolf. The later led him to being Hataru's teacher like wolf. Also how he presumably found out about the Valley this story takes place.
At some point in the future Melody and Hataru get married and have two children. A boy and a girl that both have the ability to turn into wolves. (Much like in the movie wolf children, but with a much happier ending.) They live out their lives on the peaceful farm. I've always assumed the girl follow's her mother's footsteps of being a farmer while eventually the young boy decides to go to the city and get an education. This gives Melody a chance to see what is outside the farm every time they go to vistit him
.
Melody ends up having a loose but close relationship with her father. He moves into the ranch house when Hataru moves in with Melody. He basically retires next door and comes and goes as he pleases, but holds down a small farm during the spring and summer. This makes the ranch a short of loose haven for any passing werwolves and eventually a small but large area of the forest is contained well enough for a safe place for them to turn during the full moon cycle, which allows them to hunt, but protect any villagers or hunters during the full moon. Though the occasional victim is transformed due in life saving persigures and is allowed to live on the Farm/Ranch until they are a grown enough in their powers to take care of themselves.
Melody loves all the extra company and help that passes through the years. It expands her world with out her having to leave far from the far she has grown to love. Her family is no long small and she gets to share life with Hataru and everyone lives happily ever after.
