The Marketplace is in the center area of the town. It is comprised of numerous stalls where people sell their wares each day. There are dozens of stalls, and there are a number of large building where the bigger shops reside. Here you will be able to find various items such as clothing, weapons, accessories, foods (meats, fruits, vegetables, etc.), and more. At night, store owners enter their homes near their stalls and rest. Of course, their stalls are emptied and covered, and the shops are locked up tight.

At night, the marketplace changes. More guards can be seen patrolling the streets, but at the same time, the night is ruled by thugs and criminals. Two gangs wander the castle town at night, and one of them likes to spend time in the Marketplace come nightfall. They are known as the Black Star. These men and women are the dark seed of this world. They are cruel, violent, mischievous, and sometimes they have been referred to as downright evil. However, seeing as this gang helped Virule take care of his siblings, they aren't
all bad. Some of them are actually good people that are just so down on their luck that they need the help of the Black Star just to get by. The only ones you truly need to watch out for are the three leaders as they are the ones who lead the others in their cruel ways. Without these three, the others wouldn't act anywhere near as badly as they do now.

"Before your worlds come to an end, all will feel my wrath."

A Dark Corridor opened in a small alleyway behind one of the shops. Sighing, Virule set Fae on top of his head and began to look around slowly. My best bet at finding out any information is from my old gang. Might as well start there. With a shrug, he stepped out into the Marketplace and immediately spotted three members of the Black Star gang sitting behind one of the stalls.

The pink-haired man had been about to step out into the moonlight when he spotted three guards walking his way. Grumbling quietly to himself, he disappeared into one of the stalls and hid. He had been ordered to merely observe and let his Heartless play. As soon as they had passed, Virule rose and quietly made his way over to his old gang members. At first, they appeared ready to attack him, but as soon as they recognized him, they were grinning.

"Well lookie here, looks like ol' Virule's come to pay us a visit. Thought you went and run off with that new group and left us to fend fer ourselves. What brings ya back here Murderer?" One of the older men questioned, laughing madly until Virule had a knife pressed to his throat. "H-Hey, hey! I don' mean no harm. Not like we don' trust ya or nothin'. Yer the one that killed that Queen of oors aint'cha? So whaddya want now? We never thought we'd see yer mug around these parts again if ya get what I'm sayin'."

Virule withdrew his knife and slipped it back into his buckle. "I need information. My brother, have you seen him since he disappeared?" When the three of them simply shook their heads, Virule sighed. "Next question: Have you seen Melody? I've looked and I've looked, but I haven't found her yet. She's alive, I can feel it. I recently learned that Rufio has resurfaced, now I just need to know if she's all right." Again, they simply shook their heads.

Sighing again, Virule ruffled his head a bit before patting Fae on her head. "Okay, well then. You remember the weapon Rufio used? That thing he called a keyblade? Has anyone come through here wielding a weapon like that?" When they were about to speak up, one of them whispered about the guards again and Virule groaned inwardly as the four of them took shelter once more.

As soon as the guards passed, a young man named Jackie nodded his head and smiled his rather toothy grin at his old friend. "Yeah. Two of them people came through here some time back and met with the King. Not sure what they wanted, but they left not long after. O' course, they dealt with some of them Heartless you summoned before leaving. One of 'em looked like a super drunk woman and the other looked like he coulda been the leader of that group or something. Does that help any Bro?"

Virule tapped his chin in thought and nodded slowly. "Sano and Georgia. How could I forget those two? Yeah, this helps Jack. Thanks a lot." It was at this point that the four of them were spotted. When the guards shouted at them, Virule groaned and turned to face them. As soon as they recognized him, the pink-haired man grinned and quickly dashed forward, slitting each of their throats in one quick motion. Immediately afterwards, he slipped Pain away and nodded at Fae. "Feast on their hearts little one. Then we'll begin part two of the mission: see if we can't lure some poor Protega sap here. Need to see just what kind of relationship they have with the King after all."

When Fae leaped down to feast on the hearts of the three dead guards, Virule turned to his old friends and motioned for them to leave. "Return home. You won't want to be out here to witness what's about to happen." When they nodded and fled the Marketplace, the normally grumpy Virule sighed and began summoning his Heartless. After a time, the Marketplace was flooded with Heartless. The entire kingdom would be plagued with more Heartless than before after Virule was ready to enact his plan, but for now, this small amount would suffice. All right Protega, let's see what you want with this world!" Lifting Fae back into his arms after she finished her meal, he hid in the cover of darkness and waited for what would come.

Clare

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

It took some time to arrive at Aegis. She stepped out of the gummi ship and looked around. Some of the local merchants were yelling from a distance. Her blue green eyes scanned the merchant stalls in the distance. It was almost hard to see the heartless at night, but the moonlight and soft glows from the lamps at the merchant stalls lit up the area. A Soldier heartless struggled with a merchant, it was trying to pull some type of fruit out of the merchant's hands. The other merchants ran past her.

She quickly took action and summoned her keyblade. She ran towards the merchant that was in a tug-of-war with a Soldier heartless. She knocked his hands off the fruit, then grabbed the merchant's hand and ran down the street. "You need to get out of here!" She barked the order to the merchant and hoped he understood. She let go of the merchant's hand and turned to face the heartless that chased her. The merchant ran away. 'Good. Now I can concentrate.' She thought.

Four heartless followed her, three Soldiers and one Shadow. 'I've seen these two kinds before...back on my world in the battle...before I woke up in Land of Departure. Shadows are tricky and the Soldiers are quick. They're going to keep me on my toes.' She focused. Her eyes narrowed as the Shadow darted towards her in its shadow form on the ground. It zipped past her and rose up from the ground. It jumped to attack her and Clare quickly swung her keyblade around and struck the Shadow and knocked it back. It went back into its shadow form and darted around.

A Soldier ran up to her and lashed out with its claws. Clare blocked it and held it back. She kicked it and ran towards the Soldier on the right. She took her keyblade and stabbed the Soldier through. The Soldier burst into darkness and faded. She spun around as the Shadow jumped up. It jumped on her and knocked her down. She knocked the Shadow off and rolled out of the way from the two Soldiers which tried to claw her. She watched the Shadow dart around to the back of a market stall. She quickly looked over her shoulder at the two Soldier heartless, then quickly stood up. The two Soldiers danced around her. One of them cut her arm. She winced and put up her keyblade and took a defense stance. She switched her grip on her keyblade like she was holding a dagger. She blocked and dodged attacks as she counted the heartless. "Only got rid of one, tch."

She spun around and cut into the two Soldiers with her keyblade. They faded back into darkness. "Three..." A group of Shadows were on their way to attack her. One more Shadow joined the group of four as they passed the merchant stand. "Tricky little thing." She gripped her keyblade tight in her hand and focused.

"Before your worlds come to an end, all will feel my wrath."

Virule watched closely as the Heartless he summoned did battle with a Protega member he had never seen before. Smirking, he looked her over and began to laugh quietly. Interesting. I've never seen this one before. I think I'll have a bit of fun. Stepping out into the Marketplace, he turned and grinned as more guards came rushing onto the scene, probably called by some of the people in the neighborhood. I'll deal with them in a second.

Turning, he drew both Pain and Sorrow and smirked at the girl. "Girl! Return back to the Land of Departure and tell your precious leader that this world is off limits to the likes of you! Aegis belongs to me!" Turning from her, Virule spun around and slit the throats of the five guards that grew too close to him. Nodding to Fae, the pink-haired man was about to turn around when he noticed something odd happening with Fae. After feasting on two of the knights' hearts, the little Shadow began undergoing an odd transformation.

A Soldier. That's what Fae had just become. Looking her over, Virule frowned. "You know Fae, I have mixed feelings about this. It's highly unlikely you'll be able to sit on my head anymore. I doubt I could even carry you properly if you're like this. Buuut, you do have some armor, and you have grown stronger I guess. Aaaand you're still feasting on hearts. O-kay then." Turning back around, he scratched the back of his head and shrugged. "Umm, girl? Despite this rather, umm...odd turn of events, I am quite serious. Leave. Tell Sano that if Protega continues to visit Aegis that they'll have me to deal with. This is my home! Well, it was. Until..."

Sighing, he shook his head and glanced over his shoulder as Fae began chasing a bunch of chickens around the Marketplace. Grumbling, he reached up his hand and shook his head. Fae? You haven't changed. You're still just as silly as ever aren't you girl? Smiling at her, he turned to look at Clare and just shrugged again. "Y'know what? I'm just going to have my Heartless attack you. Maybe you'll get the picture, maybe you won't. If you live, I'll just kick your a** or something. Whatever works." Pointing Pain her way, seven of his Shadows began charging straight for her. A smirk played at his lips as he waited to see what this woman would be capable of.

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

Seven Shadows now surrounded her. They twitched and turned their heads waiting for her to make a move. A man stepped out of the shadows earlier and killed some soldiers. She gripped her keyblade tight and stepped forward one step. His little companion ate the hearts of the soldiers and changed into a Soldier heartless, then started chasing chickens. "This world does not belong to you!" She snapped back at him. Why would he say that? Her mind went to her home world and her eyes widened. Who was trying to take her planet? Did he know? Her eyes narrowed again, a serious look in her eyes.

Something else snapped in her mind when he talked again. Rufio's memory...was this man his brother? Was Aegis Rufio's world? So many questions flooded her mind. That means... She turned her head and looked around at the market stalls. If she could connect his memory with this place...she would be sure. "Flowers..." She whispered But would they have them here in the market? She would know what they looked like from the necklace his sister made. But Rufio's sister went out in the wilds to find them.

She was brought back to her sense when a Shadow pounced on her and knocked her to the ground. "Get off of me!" She struggled with the Shadow and threw it off, Clare getting scratched more. She rolled out of the way when three Shadows attacked. She swung out with her keyblade and hit one Shadow hard and it faded to darkness. One down...six left that kept her on her toes. She got up on her knees and another Shadow attacked and kicked her down. She pushed the Shadow off of her. She could not get back up to her feet with this many around her. A word came to her mind. "Aero!" The wind stirred up and knocked the Shadows back. The wind formed an air shield to defend her. She quickly got up and looked at the Shadows. The Shadows were in their shadow form now darting around her.

A Shadow attacked her from behind an scratched her back. She winced and quickly spun around and struck the Shadow. It vanished into darkness. She quickly looked at the merchant stalls. The nearest one was a fruit stand and the next one by it was pottery. 'Must be further up.' She thought. She ran past the darting Shadows and past Virule and ran down the street quickly looking at the merchant stalls. 'Flower....no...not here....' She thought.

She stopped at another stall. "More fruit...." She sighed and turned her head to the stall next to her. Her eyes opened wide. "Flowers!" She ran over to the stall and picked up individual flowers in her free hand and looked at them in the lamp light. "Has to be here..." She was not making much sense. She placed the yellow flower back in the vase. The Shadows followed her and stopped at the fruit stand. They sniffed the fruit and some of them ate it. Clare ducked in time as an apple flew over her head. The Shadow heartless were throwing fruit now. The apple smashed on the ground. Clare was hit in the side by an apple and a few citrus fruit. "Owwww!" She turned and looked at them. She ducked behind the flower merchant's stand, and a small vase caught her attention. The pink petals glowed softly in the lamp light. She picked up one of the flowers and held it up to the lamp to check. It was the flower on the necklace! She smiled and quickly put the flower in her bag. This was indeed the world where Rufio and Melody were from.

She peeked up over the counter and was hit in the head with an apple. She ducked back down and rubbed her forehead. "Owwwww...." She whispered. The apple dropped into her lap. She picked it up and looked at it. It looked good, but now was not the time to eat. She placed the apple on the counter and crawled out from behind the stall and looked at the heartless. She was not going to give up on this fight. She quickly ran out and slashed up with her keyblade, hitting another Shadow. It faded into darkness. The four Shadows quickly ran off and Clare ran after them. "Get back here!" Those fruit throwing heartless were not going to get away.

Virule was puzzled when the girl began running around from merchant stall to merchant stall as if in search of something. "Umm, girl? Why the heck are you running around looking through empty merchant stalls? The merchants take all of their merchandise back home with them for safekeeping when they close up in the evening. If you want the reason why, it's pretty simple. The gang I used to be with...they like to, err...destroy things I guess would be a good way of putting it."

When the girl finally stopped at a certain stall and picked a flower out of the bunch that were still there, Virule sighed. Well now it makes sense. She must know Rufio. Grumbling, he walked over to her and bonked her on the back of the head with his clenched fist. "Girl. Answer me truthfully now. Do you know my brother, Rufio? How's the jerk doing these days? Would you care to deliver a message to him for me?" Virule, too many damn questions you moron!

Sighing again, he smacked himself in the face and decided to try again. "Listen, just tell Rufio that I'll be seeing him soon. I want a fair fight next time. He wouldn't fight back the last time and just...let me stab him! The little punk just...took and took and took and took and took. How a jerk like him ended up with the keyblade instead of me, I'll never know. I looked after Melody and Rufio all our freaking lives. I never hurt anyone, and I never agreed with the Black Star leaders when they insisted that violence was necessary if we wanted to help the people of Aegis from that b***h of a Queen. And yet I was always looked at as a villain because some of my friends were in that gang."

Grumbling, he closed his eyes and halted his Heartless for a moment. "Rufio isn't quite who you people think he is. Place your trust in him if you want, but sooner or later he'll turn his back on you when you need him most. I guarantee it." Turning, Virule walked away from her and snapped his fingers to signal his Heartless to begin their attacks on the girl once more. As he did, Fae glomped him and he groaned with his face in the ground. "Fae. Please get off. This is highly embarrassing."

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

Clare felt a bonk on her head and stopped moving. She looked up at Virule. He asked her a bunch of questions. So this was Rufio's brother. He smacked himself in the face and she winced when he did it. She listened to him. The heartless were about to attack but he stopped them. 'Rufio turn his back? That makes no sense...he defended me. I can't see that happening...what does he mean? And about Rufio taking...Melody cared for Rufio when he was sick. And didn't the eldest brother care for him too? Out of a brother's love? Why is he saying that?' She looked at the man as he walked away. He snapped his fingers and the heartless ran after her.

'How? Only more questions...' She thought as she ran. 'Melody seems like she cares for both of her brothers...So what if Rufio got a keyblade? Wait...is he jealous? There has to be more to this...I don't know the whole story yet. I can't jump on things. And Rufio...' She jumped off a wall and flipped over a Shadow heartless. She stabbed the Shadow through, and it faded. '...I'll let him know later about the challenge. He might get a flood of memories and hurt himself like in the fight with the Wyverns. He almost got himself killed. I should wait for now and tell him later when he gets more memories back...I don't know if that man knows about Rufio's memory problem. He's his older brother. ARGH! So many questions!' She was scratched from behind from another Shadow. She screamed from the pain. It was a deep cut. She turned to the heartless and swung across and hit the Shadow. It flipped back and vanished. 'I need the whole story. Rufio needs his memories. Melody knows, but I can tell she's holding back. And what is the eldest brother's story?' She turned her head and looked at Virule. A serious look in her eyes.

In order to get answers, she would have to find out. She just could not believe Rufio could turn his back on people. 'Eleven heartless remain.' She thought. She gripped her keyblade tight in her hand and turned around to face the heartless. "I'll make sure Rufio gets the message." She ran at the heartless. '...but right now is not a good time for him. He is struggling to remember who he is!' She thought. She danced with a Soldier heartless, both blocking blows. She played offensive while it played defensive. It knocked her keyblade up and she followed through with a kick to its chest. It went tumbling backwards. Another Soldier ran in and slashed at her and cut her arm. She winced again and kicked it. She turned and saw the other Soldier had got up and it was running at her. She readied her keyblade and slashed down at the heartless. The Soldier vanished.

She turned and faced the Soldier she kicked back and slashed up with her keyblade. The Soldier disappeared into darkness. Questions kept popping up in her mind. What's this guy's side of the story? Why does he hate his brother so much? Why did he kill the Queen here? What's the whole story? A group of three shadows surrounded her. She looked at the twitching heartless. 'Heartless...' The heartless jumped up and readied their claws. "Aero..." A swirl of wind swirled around her and knocked the Shadows back. Her eyes carried a sadness to them. 'Iris...you and the others better be safe. If this guy is after this world, then someone must be after mine. I need to find you guys soon...' Her mind thought back in her memories of her world. She slashed down at a Shadow and it vanished. 'I can't place a face right now. Someone had to have brought the heartless to my world. I need to find out.' She shook her head and focused on the fight. 'Focus Clare!!!!' She had a determined look now. One of the Shadows lashed out and Clare stabbed it with her keyblade. She quickly moved and slashed down at the other Shadow. They both disappeared to darkness.

Virule was giggling as Fae tried to play with him. She was acting just as funny as she always did and he found it amusing. When a Shadow went flying over the two of them and faded, he blinked a couple of times and turned to look at the woman. Well she seems to be doing...all right I guess? Shrugging, he stood up and gently gripped Fae's shoulder. "Fae, stand beside me. Don't let her get you okay? Then again, you do kick butt, so you'd be fine right?" Turning, he looked down and Fae and smiled warmly.

When Fae looked up into Virule's eyes and tilted her head, the pink-haired man felt all giddy inside. This little Heartless was just too cute. Looking around, he noticed that only 6 of his Heartless remained. The girl was in bad shape, but he was interested in seeing just how long she could hold out. Snapping his fingers again, he got the Heartless' attention and then pointed at Clare. "All of you, ATTACK! Take out her right leg first, then her arms."

Smirking, he slipped back into the shadows with Fae following him. Virule's laughter could be heard all around the area as his Heartless moved in for the kill. Come on girl, show me what you're made of. If you win, I'll show you what a real fight is like. Grinning, he looked down at where he hoped Fae was, but she was gone again. Grumbling, he smacked himself in the face again before looking around for her. It turned out Fae was skipping around the area eating fruit. With a sigh, he was about to go and get her, but then she suddenly got serious and began rushing towards Clare for an attack. Fae! What the hell are you doing?! Why don't you listen to me?! Irritated and nervous, Virule watched on to see how Fae would fare.

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

Before Clare could react, the two Soldiers left grabbed her arms and the four Shadows grabbed her legs. Her eyes widened. She heard Virule's laughter and looked around for him. He disappeared back into the shadows. 'Damn it!' She struggled to break free. The heartless claws dug into her skin. She winced then she was struck in the head from a kick. Clare fell back on the ground and the other heartless let go of her. Her ears were ringing from the blow. She slowly opened her eyes and shook her head as she looked up at the moon in the sky. She blinked slowly.

'Clare! Watch your back!' Clare closed her eyes. "To..llvar?"

'Iron will. The heart of Dwarves.' A Dwarven laugh filled her head. She reached her right hand up and rubbed the side of her head. She felt something wet. 'We don't know the meanin' of givin' up...well in most situations.' She heard another hardy laugh. "Relguard...You guys here?..." She shook her head again. The pain in her head hurt.

A loud echoing roar filled her head. Her eyes opened wide and she quickly sat up and hit her head against Fae's head. "Owwwwww!" She gripped her head with both hands. She opened her eyes again. Her vision was blurry. She looked down at her right hand and it was covered in her blood. "Iris?" She looked up and around. She slowly stood up, her head drooped low. "Guys...This isn't funny. Where are you?" She shook her head and her blood dripped to the ground.

She looked up and turned around. Her blurry vision showed Tollvar and Relguard smiling and laughing. She laughed along. "You two..." She smiled. "I've been look..." She gripped her head. "This headache."

'Clare watch out!' The image of Tollvar took out his bow and shot an arrow that flew past her shoulder. Clare reacted with her instinct and quickly turned around and stabbed a Soldier heartless through the chest with her keyblade. The Soldier squirmed then vanished into darkness. The environment changed around her when she looked. She felt like she was back in the war. She could always trust Tollvar with protecting her back. 'Looks like more of 'em are headin' this way. Get back over here Clare!' Relguard spoke too her. She turned and ran over to the illusions of her friends, even though what she thought was there really was not. "Guys. Where's Iris? I heard her." Her ears were still ringing loud from the blow to the head. She could hear her voice echos in her mind when she spoke. Relguard drew both of his battle axes and grunted. 'She took to the skys. She'll be back on the ground soon.'

"She's having fun without me." She frowned. Tollvar and Relguard laughed. 'Why miss all the action down here?' Tollvar commented. "True." Clare replied and smirked. "Those little dark things. We can take them. They fall easy to our blades. But those big monsters are almost like fighting small dragons. Or at least one giant earth dragon." She chuckled. 'Ah earth dragons. Like fighting a mountain of rock.' Tollvar remarked. 'Psh. Earth dragon. More like a bunch of drunk angry Dwarves.' Clare laughed. "Right Relguard. You would know." Relguard flustered. 'What? It's like a complement! Can't help it. I like a good brew!'

'I guess you want to go to a pub when this is over right?' Tollvar questioned Relguard. Relguard grunted and charged into battle and slashed about, his battle axes ripping through the dark beings and Gor'grim warriors. A spark flashed in Clare's eyes, they burned with a passion for fighting. "Come on Tollvar. We can't let Relguard have all the fun." She grinned and ran forward, her next target was the last Soldier heartless. The Soldier jumped back away from her keyblade slash. The Soldier took off running, Clare followed behind it. 'You got it Clare?!'

"Yeah! Not letting it get away Tollvar!" Clare felt around her belt for her throwing knives. "Huh...I usually have them on me. Must have left them in Iris' saddle pack. Oh well." She shrugged and followed the heartless. She twirled her keyblade in the air like she would with her daggers. She gripped her keyblade and jumped forward and slashed down across the Soldier heartless' back. The Soldier heartless fell forward on the ground and vanished. She landed on the ground and turned around. She rested her keyblade on her shoulder. The four Shadows remaining darted back and forth. They twitched and looked at Clare.

Clare heard a roar from above and looked up at the sky, the sunset illusion lit up the black dragon. Her bright orange circle patterns were clearly visible on the soft underside of her wings. Clare smiled when her dragon friend landed on the ground and roared at the bigger heartless. "Iris..." She whispered. A fire grew inside of Clare and started to burn bright. 'Clare focus!' Iris yelled at her as the four Shadows dashed at her. Clare watched the Shadows and twirled her keyblade once more. She wobbled in her step, but stepped down hard to gain her balance back.

The Shadows surrounded her and she watched them. She gripped her keyblade tight and spun around in a circle as the Shadows jumped for her. The passion of fight called out to her and she was one that would not give up. A stubborn girl. The Shadows flew back and hit the ground hard. They disappeared. She wobbled in place and her right hand rose to touch her head again. "Pain..." The headache was annoying her. She shook her head again, her vision still blurry. "You guys okay?..." She lifted her head and saw that Relguard and Tollvar were fighting. Iris had knocked over one of the bigger heartless and had her back claws sunk into it. Clare squinted her eyes as she looked at Iris. Iris and the others looked kind of see though to her, but one heartless still remained. It was dancing around Iris. How did Iris not see it? One swoop of her tail could knock it out. "Iris!" She yelled and ran to aid her dragon friend.

She grabbed the curled dragon horns of her keyblade with her right hand and held her keyblade horizontal. She ran into Soldier Fae and pushed her towards a shop wall. She pinned Soldier Fae against the shop wall. With a fire blaze burning bright in her eyes, she looked into Fae's eyes. "Leave her alo....." She closed her eyes and shook her head. "Ngh!" She opened her eyes and looked at the pinned heartless. Clare's vision was not blurred anymore. She looked over her shoulder. The market place looked normal. Her friends were gone and she was not on her world. She also noticed there were no other heartless around besides the one she currently had pinned. She looked back at Fae with a confused look. "Different..." She whispered. She pulled back from Fae and slowly lowered her to the ground. She backed up away from Fae and still looked down at her. "Please stay here." She motioned for her to stay, but Clare did not know if she would or not.

She wobbled towards the fruit stand then grabbed on to the post to support herself. "Cure." She whispered. A green light lit up around her. Her head wound healed and her headache went away. "What just...." She reached up and rubbed her temples. Her friends, she could see them and hear them. She felt frustrated. 'Were they really here? No...A kick to the head...' She ruffled her hair and sighed. 'No more heartless, except that one.' She looked over her shoulder at Fae. 'She belongs to that guy...Speaking of..' She turned around and looked. She picked up an apple and tossed it up in the air and caught it when it fell. She bit into it. It was sweet and crunchy. She looked at it. Fruit like this did not grow on her world. It was delicious.

She smiled and walked out into the street. She tossed Fae the apple. She saw the heartless eating fruit earlier. She looked around. "Come out! I know you're still here!" The fire in her eyes still burned bright.

Virule felt a murderous rage swarm through him when Clare attacked Fae. As soon as she was released, Fae scurried over to him and he hugged her tight. "It's okay sweetie. Just stay here and don't let anyone see you." Patting her on her helmeted head, Virule stepped out from the shadows and put away his swords. This time he took hold of the Ogre and pointed it straight at her. "Girl, you'll regret attacking Fae the way you did."

Taking a few steps towards her, the pink-haired man began swinging the Ogre around his body in a bit of a warm-up exercise. "Girl, I don't know your damn name, but I hope you're prepared. I told you to leave, but you failed to heed my warning. Then you attacked my dearest friend!" Taking another step, he lunged forward and swung the Ogre as hard as he could at Clare's side. "I'll make you suffer!"

Clare

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

Fae fled to the shadows. Clare watched as the man finally came out. He put his swords away and drew his large claymore. It had metal edges that looked like teeth on it. The blade was a deep purple color and hooked at the tip. He swung the sword around himself.

A stubborn girl that never backed down from a challenge. She got into trouble because of her actions. He stepped forward and swung his claymore at her side. She braced herself and positioned her keyblade to block his attack. The force of the blow knocked her off her feet and she went tumbling into one of the shop walls near Fae. Her back hit the brick and she winced and curled up. The air was knocked out of her and she coughed. She looked up at the man standing in the street.

She slowly sat up and coughed more trying to get her breath back. She looked in the shadows and knew Fae was in there somewhere watching. "Fae..." She coughed more then wheezed, the dust from the ground was caught in her throat. She raised her right hand to rub the spot where she was kicked by Fae. She rubbed the dried blood out of her eye. "He keeps calling you Fae. Pretty name." She slowly stood up and coughed more to clear the dirt from her throat. "Sorry Fae." She placed her right hand on her head. "Sorry for attacking you. I do hope you're okay. You're different from the others..." She was confused about Fae. She was a heartless but acted different. "I thought my friends were here. Thought I was back in the war..." She looked over at the dark shadowed areas and hoped Fae was listening. "Enjoy the fruit okay?" She looked back at Virule. "Your friend doesn't look like he'll calm down anytime soon..." She straightened up. "I started something from my delusions."

She let her keyblade rest on her shoulder again. "Stay safe." She nodded at Fae. She stepped back out into the street and looked at the man. She twirled her keyblade around. "Sorry for attacking your friend. The blow to the head made me think my friends were here." She did not think that an apology to him would calm him down, but it did not hurt to try. She gripped her keyblade tight in her hand. 'But I can't just leave here...not till I know he's gone...' She looked at her keyblade. 'Iris...You know how I get...and please, just please stay safe.'

The fire never died in her heart. She needed to stop Virule from doing something. He was here for some reason, and she never let a challenge go. Her eyes burned with a passion to fight and defend. She just wished her friends were really here. 'Tollvar. I'm doing something stupid. Tch. If only you and the others were here. Playing with fire I guess. Never give up...' She ran at Virule and slashed up with her keyblade. Her eyes locked with his.

As Fae listened to Clare, she nibbled on the apple the kind-hearted woman had tossed her. When Clare rushed to attack Virule, Fae watched carefully, not sure what she was going to do. Finishing the apple, she quickly rushed up and stopped Virule from crushing the poor girl's head with his claymore. Gripping his wrists tight, Fae also took Clare's attack and screeched from the pain. Looking up into Virule's eyes, the little Soldier shook her head and smiled through the pain.

Looking down into Fae's eyes, Virule's eyes widened in horror. Fae was in horrible pain, though whether it was worse than what Akito caused her, he couldn't tell. Putting the Ogre away, he clung to his friend and shook his head. "Fae, why would you do that? Why protect her? Look at what she's done to you!" Clinging to her, he could feel tears stinging at his eyes. Try as he might to fight them back, they poured down his cheeks and he sobbed as he held Fae close.

The fight had come to a close before it had even truly begun. Fae had intervened and had even gotten hurt in the process. As he looked up into Clare's eyes, Virule shook his head and looked away. "Please, just leave Aegis. Tell Sano that this world is off limits to him. Don't hurt Fae again. I don't care that she likes you, I will kill you if you hurt her again." Standing up, he placed a hand on Fae's head and mumbled: "Cure." When the green light washed over his little friend, Virule smiled softly at her.

Fae spun around and smiled up at Clare before turning and jumping on Virule, hugging him tightly. Poking his nose, she pointed at Clare and drew a heart in the air for him as if trying to tell him something. At the dumbfounded look on his face, Fae looked at him and started nomming on his nose cutely. When he sat up complaining about her trying to eat his nose off his face, Fae giggled and pointed at Clare again. Obviously, this little Heartless could sense something about the woman that Virule had not.

Looking down at Fae, Virule blinked a few times and stared silently at Clare. "Are you trying to say this woman has a pure heart? One of those untouched by darkness? Or are you simply trying to say you like her? Heck, maybe you're trying to say both." Shrugging, Virule stood up again and looked Clare over. "Girl, what's your name? You're certainly, umm...cute I guess. You've got some fire to you, but I can't figure out exactly what my little friend is trying to say. I've heard about the Princesses, but if there are more than seven of them, I'm not quite sure."

With a shrug of his shoulders, he turned to look at Fae. "Little one, you're still odd, but at least you're okay now. I'll get you back home real soon and give you something nice to eat. Perhaps even some ice cream?" With a shrug, he turned and looked into Clare's eyes again. "My name is Virule. This one is Fae. She may be a Heartless, but she's special. She's a true friend to me. I know you in Protega don't seem to care though. Your leader believes Heartless to be unfeeling, evil creatures. Unless that jerk can change his views, I refuse to let any one of you near Fae. I'll kill anyone that tries to harm her, regardless of Akito's plans for you all. I'll protect her with my very life."

Glancing down at Fae again, Virule nodded. "I'll protect you...even from Akito himself. If he ever tries to harm you again..." Shaking his head, he turned to Clare and sighed. "Listen, Fae likes you, so I guess you're okay. Will you please just leave Aegis now? I don't...want Sano going anywhere near my home again. One day I'd like to be able to come back here, regardless of what I've done. The Queen was evil. She....did things. Horrible....things. But you can't tell my brother that! He...was directly involved. If he knew the truth...he'd seek me out. I want to fight him, I don't want him to get killed looking for me. So...keep it to yourself." Turning, he opened a Dark Corridor and shook his head. "I'll leave when you do. This here is a gateway of sorts that will lead me back to where we reside. I opened it so you can trust that I'll leave my world the same time you do okay? Now just LEAVE."

Clare

"Iris...."

╔══════════════╗

Clare's eyes were wide with shock as Fae jumped in between them. "Fae!" She dismissed her keyblade. The little heartless stopped Virule from hurting her, but she had hurt Fae again. She dropped to her knees and looked at the wound on Fae's back. She did not want to hurt Fae. "Fae..." Clare looked up at Virule, he was crying and hugging Fae close. She looked away and hung her head low. Her hands reached up to where her heart was and gripped her shirt tight in her palms. Her heart felt like it sunk. 'Fae is different...She protected me...' She felt like she hurt one of her own friends, like she struck Tollvar with her keyblade. Her eyes filled with tears and they slid down her cheeks. The streams of salty water refused to stop flowing. She did not know much about heartless, only that they attacked her world and were after hearts, but Fae...she acted on her own like she was a person.

'Her own person...' That's when it hit her. The other heartless she fought they were ordered to fight, but Fae acted on her own. She looked up at Fae and Virule. Virule had healed Fae. She listened to Virule. "I'll tell Sano." She looked at Virule violet eyes. "I never wanted to hurt Fae!" She meant every world. She wanted Fae to be safe.

Fae turned to her and smiled at her before she jumped on Virule. Fae was drawing hearts in the air and pointing at her. She was confused. She wiped the tears from her cheeks. She smiled softly at Fae, she was too cute. She blushed when Virule said she was cute. Pure of heart. Princess. Princess...She never thought of herself as a princess. She never dressed like one. She was not born into royalty. She was a commoner on her world, just a normal everyday person. A soldier in the war. 'Princess and pure of heart. What does he mean?' Another confused look appeared on her face. She would have to ask Sano later.

Clare listened to Virule when he spoke again. 'So Virule was the one in Rufio's memory. His brother.' She smiled at Fae and Virule, her tears found new trails down her cheeks again. "I think there are some of us that would care about Fae." She nodded. "I would try to hide her in my room. I wouldn't let the others hurt her. She is special. I can tell you care for her dearly. She cares for you too." She smiled at Fae. "She's different from other heartless." She looked back at Virule. "I'll keep that information from your brother." She watched him summon a Dark Corridor. She would leave soon.

Clare outstretched her arms for a welcoming hug to Fae. She smiled softly at her. Fae looked up at Virule then over at Clare. Fae smiled and ran over to Clare and jumped on her and hugged her. Clare hugged the heartless close, still crying. "Fae. I wanted you safe from harm. You jumped in and protected me. I understand now..." She cried into Fae's shoulder. "You act on your own. Not controlled by someone. You are like your own person." She placed her hands on Fae's shoulders and pulled back from the hug and looked at her. She frowned. "I'm sorry for attacking you Fae. I mean every word."

Fae patted her shoulder and smiled. She wiped Clare's tears and smiled again. Clare smiled softly. Fae turned around and showed Clare that her back was fine. Clare hugged Fae again. "I'm glad you're alright. Oh!" She let Fae go and dug in her bag. She pulled out an orange ribbon and smiled. "I'm giving you this Fae." Fae turned back around and looked at the ribbon. Clare tied it around Fae's left arm. Fae smiled and danced around. Clare laughed and hugged Fae again. Clare stood up and she bent over and hooked her pinky finger around Fae's pinky finger. "That ribbon is special Fae. Treasure it. I promise to keep an eye out for you on the battle field. I'll protect you. Friends?" Clare smiled down at Fae. Fae smiled back at her.

Fae looked at Virule then back at Clare. She grabbed Clare's hand and pulled her up to Virule. "Fae?" She was confused, and she pulled up her right arm to protect her in case Virule lashed out. She closed her eyes. She stood still when Fae stopped pulling her. She waited then slowly opened her eyes and relaxed her arms to her side. She looked up at Virule. "I...um..." She looked over at Fae as she danced around them. Fae stopped and looked up at Clare. She pointed at Clare then pointed at Virule. She repeated the motion a few times. "Fae?" She blinked a few times then looked up at Virule. "I'm sorry. I did not want to hurt your friend Fae. I hope you can forgive me." She looked over at Fae and smiled. "She's the first nice heartless I've met."

She looked back up at Virule's violet eyes. She forgot to give her name to him. "Past the steep, rocky mountains of flame. An ancient city carved in rock. Through the forest of song. Float through the swamp of dreams to the lost coast of the past. To hidden treasures guarded by the giant's kiss, and onward home. A dragon rider flies to protect what she cares for on the back of midnight wings. May night be the blanket of cover, and morning's dawn bring hope for a new day." Clare looked away and opened her bag. She dug through her bag and found the item she was looking for. She pulled out a locket on a silver chain. The front of the locket had a bloomed Iris flower made from silver. The rim of the locket was golden. She opened the locket to take one last look at her writing. She ran her fingers over the word that was scratched on the cover behind the Iris flower, Hope. The other word scratched on the other side was her name. Her fingers blocked it from view. She closed the locket and it softly clicked closed. She hesitated before she reached out and gently grabbed Virule's hand. She placed the locket in his hand and curled his fingers around it. She looked back up at his violet eyes. "I want you to have this." She smiled. "Find me again."

Fae looked at Clare then at Virule. She smiled and danced around more. Clare leaned in to kiss Virule's cheek, but before she could Fae bumped into her. Her weight shifted on her feet and her lips pressed softly against his. Fae looked up at them and giggled softly in her hands. Clare quickly pulled back and she blushed a rosy pink. She touched her lips lightly. 'I...I just kissed him!!!!' She turned and ran to her gummi ship, her fingers still resting on her lips. Her skin felt warm and numb all at once. 'What is this feeling?' She thought. She shook her head and blushed more. One would say a spark in the heart. She entered her gummi ship to return back to the Land of Departure.

"Before your worlds come to an end, all will feel my wrath."

Virule listened as Clare spoke, though half of what she was saying was totally lost on him. When she placed the locket in his hand, he stared at her, a puzzled expression clear on his face. Right when he went to say something, she moved in close and kissed him, causing his eyes to go wide in a mixture of emotions. When she pulled away and ran off, Virule stood there blinking, staring blankly as a large group of knights surrounded both himself and Fae. "S-She k-k-kissed me Fae. I...WHAT THE HELL?!!!"

Clutching at his head, he half-snarled, half-cackled like a madman as the knights started inching closer. What is going on? Why did I just let her flee? I should have killed her. I'm...I'm so confused. Fae, why did you do that? Grumbling, he took hold of the Ogre again and starting swinging it around in circles, cleaving the attacking knights in two. Without even looking at them, he let Fae finish them off so she could finish up her little meal on Aegis.

Glancing down at the locket in his hand, he suddenly realized something. "Crap! She never even told me her freaking name. Ugh, I need to return this thing to her. Why the heck did she give me this thing?" Grumbling, he turned to Fae and sighed. "Fae, come on. We need to get back home." Tucking the locket into his inner shirt pocket, he glanced around one last time and sighed. His eyes rested on an alleyway that he knew led to the Slums. Rufio, I'll make you suffer for what you did. I promise you that. Slipping the Ogre back onto his back, he stepped through the Dark Corridor with Fae, returning back to the World Without a Name.
