Hey, does anyone hear have some hippie books or movies that they'd want to share . . ?
Movies I've seen . . Yellow Submarine - trippy animation. The music will save us! You've got to love the Beatles. biggrin
Hair - made from the play . . really awesome, the music makes you want to dance! But . . I still cry for Berger . . so sad.
Free to Be You and Me - I haven't seen this one, but I really want to . . I've heard it's great to see on your birthday.
Books . . The Mists of Avalon! A retelling of the Arthurian myths from the women's point of view . . I've read it a few times.
Yeah . . so any discussion would be awesome! Oh, and as anybody read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence, or the Port Huron Statement?

I've had the book "Free to Be You & Me" since I was BORN... it REALLY is a great book. All sorts of poems and stories and pictures about being different and loving our differences. Fantastic book.

Yeah, I already own Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet! So many books, so little time! biggrin But, that might be because I haven't finished reading The Grateful Dead reader yet! biggrin
I believe Zen is an off-branching of Buddhism centering on meditation as the path to enlightenment, but don't quote me on that.

books: rebel sell is a really good book i got for soltace this year. . . i also just finished motorcycle diaries. . . definatley pick it up.
shake hands with the devil - romeo delair. . . it's a canadian book, written by a canadian peace keeper who was helpless to do anything but watch the atrocities in rowanda.
let them eat cake . . . forget the author, but it's a book about a young woman in the work force, putting up with men. . . yeah, it's good.
anything by naomi klein.
as for movies. . . well i don't really get to see that many movies. . . tommy is always fun.
when they finally make a movie of RENT, it's a definate yes yes yes.

I've read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and I've also seen The Motorcycle Diaries (definitely not the same thing- they are different, but both VERY good!!)
I don't necessarily know if it's a hippie thing, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a really good movie. It's a really interesting, thought-provoking movie. A lot of people don't get it. But I freakin' loved it.

I don't think this is a hippie book, but I still enjoy reading "Animal Farm" now and then. My sister use to read me that book when I was little. Then I read it myself in middle school. You should have seen the look on my english teachers face when she found out a middle school student read a college material book.
