I am still waiting to hear from Gaia regarding my hacking report. It's been 3 weeks now since my main account was hacked. I will give a short breakdown of what happened.
I got a link sent to me in the chat window. Thought it was for a free item, but it wasn't, and I made the mistake of logging in on the Gaia loggin page that came up.
I was still online, with multiple windows open on the account, and tried to change my password, but it was too late. Then tried the password recovery, but my email address had already been changed. I immediately logged into a mule, using another server, keeping my windows up on the hacked account. I filed the hacking report, and then contacted a Moderator who was online, and asked her to disable the trading pass on the account. I believe this prevented the hacker from getting too much of my stuff off of the account. He spent time removing everyone from my friends list first.
The next day, Sunday, I got a PM on mulette's account, saying the account had been demoted in the guild by Shanra. Other members contacted me as well, saying they had been banned from the guild. I knew the hacker was messing with the guild at that point. Then it was brought to my attention that he had changed the title of our chat thread. I contacted an Omni Moderator and asked her if my account could be banned until my report was reviewed. She went ahead and did that, and she also reversed the actions the hacker had taken that day, by reinstating everyone who had been banned, and putting mulette back as a crew member.
It was her belief, as well as that of the first moderator I contacted, that I had good grounds for getting my account back.
I want to apologize to anyone who may have received that bogus link from my hacked account. That was not me sending it, but the hacker. I know the friend who sent the link to me, got it from one of her friends, and unfortunately, her account was hacked as well. I have not heard from her since that night.
