Sour fruit.

"Nothing can describe ones being better than what they love. I love how the juices of a sour fruit flood my taste buds, a unique flavor that almost forces you to grin. I love the long lasting dim of light on a late summer evening and how the clear skies overhead perpetuate an easy-going nature.

I guess you could say my being is that of warmth and genuine existence, something natural and simplistic but pleasureful and calming. Each day I wake-up with a smile on my face and a hellbent desire to conquer the evils of humankind and instate a sense of goodness.

I am a sour fruit. I am a later summer day. No fruit stays sour forever and no season or day stands still. That is the reality of mortality, a constant and unconquerable fear."

Summer days.

Feeling the breath of the wind and the warmth of sun on her skin Fleur stood like a statue in the tall grass. Goosebumps ran the length of her arms and legs and she shivered with delight as her senses absorbed the vast sensations. As she opened her eyes she could an ocean of green with spots of red, yellow, violet, and pink. Much like the turbulent sea the valley in which she stood rose and fell, the land a continuous rolling expanse. Birds chirped in the distance and a quiet whisper escaped the sweet-tasting breeze. Fleur could hardly restrain the urge to join the chorus of Mother nature and began to softly hum. Gradually her pulse quickened and her heart became a fastening metronome until finally she could no longer contain the emotions and her hum rose above the sounds of nature and her body began to move all on its own.

As Fleur glided across the soft green grass like a stage performer she gripped tighter and tighter on a small disc concealed behind the fingers of her left hand and pressed firmly against her palm. With each passing moment the excitement grew and gradually the disc began to crumble under her powerful grip. Throwing her body weightlessly through the air like an acrobat, Fleur released the tension in her body and the former disc, now nothing more than powder, whisked effortlessly from her hand, cradled in the wind, becoming just another part of her surroundings. Almost on cue, Fleur ceased her elegant dance and her face quickly became stern, her mind focused. Just as she had quieted herself, the birds were now silent, an imminent danger propelling them into an instinctual flight. A long rumble began to resonate and with a flick of her hand Fleur activated her Quincy cross and a surge of reishi compressed within her hand. "And now for the main attraction."

The breeze had become a howling gale and assaulted her back, her long brown locks streaming past her face. The Earth seemed to shutter now, the ground losing it's stability, the air thick with menace. Fleur grinned, she could taste the anticipation on her lips and the anxiety sent a shiver down her spine, goose bumps once again raised on the surface of her skin. A great slap of thunder resonated authoritatively and the horizon seemed to split into two halves. Pushing her hair to the left side of her face Fleur peered over her right shoulder, out of the corner of her eye she stared into a deep abyss. Somewhere deep within the void she could feel something staring back. A short hushed laugh escaped her mouth and almost embarrassed she pressed her hand to her lips, "I expected something more."

In response to her curt taunt a great creature tore from the chasm, an enraged cry violating the quiet. Hurtling across the landscape towards Fleur came a massive beast covered in a deep chocolate fur. The creatures face was a bleak white, it's thick bone mask contorted in an offensive grimace. The Hollow, as it was known, was heavy set with short stout legs and long primal arms. Its feet and hands were clad in long gleaming claws that tore at the valleys lush virgin soil as it bounded towards Fleur. Defiantly she kept her back to the creature and even went as far as to remove her sideways glance, as though the beasts image were too repulsive for her eyes. Fleur could feel the Hollow closing in, its rancid and foul breath humid against her cooled skin.

The monstrosity was now in striking distance, its great hand poised to attack. Fleur felt a rush of air pass her face and race behind her, with the most effortless of reactions her being flickered from it's former position and now hung inverted in mid-air. Now facing the Hollow she drew back her left arm, a long thin arrow following her movements. With her bow cocked and ready Fleur flashed her glance at the creature and let loose the bolt, a quick whistle sounding as it shot towards its target.

Seiji watched the fight from afar, his liquid gold eyes never leaving the deadly dance before him. His usually raven black hair had lit up with the lighting, (or lack thereof) and it flashed a dark, stormy indigo. The wind was strong, blowing his messy, weightless locks all around, even though he had long since tied it back into a small, tight tail at the nape of his neck. He had to admit, whoever this Quincy girl was, she was impressive. He himself was still unable to do the Hirenkyaku, the equivalent of a Shinigami flash step.

He itched to join the fight as well, but held himself back. It would be rude of him, and Reikai had hated it whenever he was rude. His lips twitched into a slight frown. Reikai. He still couldn't believe that she was gone. They didn't have enough time together. He had never seen Kenji since that day either...He frowned and shook his head slightly. Enough of the past. His eyes drifted back to the Hollow the other Quincy was fighting. Was there a chance Reikai had become a creature like that? This only thought was what kept him from destroying these monsters. What if it was his sister? A Quincy did not save a Hollow when they killed them; they were not Shinigami. They destroyed everything; the physical body, who they were, their soul. How could he do such a thing with the thought of his lost sister at the forefront of his mind all the time?

He heard the whistle of an arrow just milliseconds before he saw it fly. The arrow skimmed past the Hollow and it was only due to Seiji's quick reactions that he dodged out of the way, the branch he had been previously on exploding into splinters and toothpicks. "That was close..." He murmured.

Strafe sighed with a sigh of relief as the sound of a angered hollow passed swiftly through his ears. "Well that would be better than sitting here bored to tears." He said turning and sprinting in the direction of the noise. "It doesn't sound very far away, so it won't take very long." He thought out loud as he became closer to the sound. In the distance he noticed what seemed to be the body of another shinigami. "Well it looks like I'm late to the party....but he doesn't seem to be doing much." He mumbling sarcastically as he jumped up to where the man was.

He landed on a branch near him and his jaw dropped open when he saw the hollow and what was fighting it. A quincy of all people. "You do know it's your duty to take them out, not the quincy's." Strafe said intrigued at the potential outcomes of the situation. If he wasn't the laziest person he knew, he would have already joined the fight.

Seiji was approached by another male, and the ravenette cast the other a blank, uninterested look. Even if he was a Shinigami, he knew better than to rashly enter a fight without the other person's consent. He might end up fighting both of them, and even he wasn't good enough to do something like that. "You contradict yourself, then. I am no Shinigami." He thought it would be kind of obvious. He was sure a Quincy's reiatsu wasn't the same as a Shingami's. But then again, he could be wrong. He could always be wrong. "Even if I was, I would not enter into a fight which is not my own." He turned away again, promptly ignoring his new companion once more.

Strafe laughed as he realized his moronic mistake. "I should really pay attention more often, my apologies." He said with a bit of a smirk. From first glance it looked like she was a shinigami, but obviously not now that he actually looked. He kept gazing at the ferocious fight ahead analyzing the moves both combatants were making. "Now I have the decision, do I intervene and most likely die, or do I let it slide." He said already knowing his decision.

He turned around and hesitated for a minute. "If that Quincy fails, take care of the hollow, will ya?" He said losing the smirk and gaining a serious tone. He then dashed off to get back to the Soul Society. He needed to check on the state of his squad considering they didn't have a captain at the moment.

Seiji was about to respond with a dry, "Oh don't worry, I'll just let it rampage around town if she doesn't kill it first." but decided that it was a waste of breath anyways and the Shinigami guy was gone. Sighing, he pulled out a cigarette and lit it up. It was really a bad habit he had been meaning to stop for a while now, but it was called an addiction for a reason. And besides, it wasn't like he was free of fatal situations in day to day life anyways...Fighting Hollows and all that; they would kill him anyways if smoking didn't.

A wonderfully crimson and salmon mixed arrow whizzed steadily towards the Hollow, the creature still poised to strike. Meters before the arrow would ever reach the beast, the great Hollow swatted at the compressed Reishi, the needle-like bolt veering off course towards a tree far off in the distance. "Tsk." With obvious displeasure Fleur completed her flip and landed on the soft grass sprinting off to encircle the creature just as the ball of her left foot touched down. Out of the corner of her eye she caught the glimpse of a human springing from a branch moments before her displaced arrow struck. Smiling gingerly, Fleur was surprised that another Quincy had showed themselves and was rather pleased to have an audience.

Ignoring her guest momentarily, Fleur returned her attention to her ghastly prey. Flicking her hair to her right she once again cocked her left arm, the crimson bow following her fingers as they tugged back creating another lengthy pin-like arrow. Still sprinting she aimed carefully at the Hollow's left knee as she made her pass by the creature. Letting loose the arrow Fleur watched in brief delight as her arrow struck true and disabled the creatures movement. The great Hollow let out a grand cry in agony as lashed out violently. The beast swung wide and thrashed about, it's flurry of wild limbs catching Fleur in her mad dash and sending her several meters back. Landing on her behind and skidding across the dirt and grass Fleur let out an almost silent whimper and was quick to return to her feet.

Attempting to regain her bearings she took a quick glance at her surroundings taking notice that she was now much closer to her fellow Quincy who now seemed accompanied by a strange individual giving off the Reiatsu of a Soul Reaper. The stark contrast to that of the Quincy's left a gritty taste in her mouth as she shot her glance back to the Hollow that now lurched towards her in a blind frenzy. Kicking off the ground in a backwards direction, Fleur brought herself beside her watchful guest who was now once again alone. In a defiant and authoritative display, Fleur loosed a trilogy of relatively weak arrows that tore through the air towards the beast.

Seiji did not wish to trample on anyone's pride, but that girl seriously needed assistance in his opinion. He watched a moment longer, and she did a neat, graceful back flip, landing to his right. He didn't flinch, or move in any way. "You know..." He started, leaning back a little and running his fingers over the cross on his wrist. "If you want help, you can just ask." He stated in an offhand way, like it didn't really matter to him. In a way, it didn't. If she died, then he could finish the weakened Hollow off; easy. But he didn't want to just stand by and watch a fellow Quincy be defeated...

Looking to the right at her fellow Quincy Fleur made quite a face in near astonishment at his suggestive comment. "I'm a woman, not a handicap nor an incompetent, inexperienced child. While I appreciate the thoughtfulness, don't think that I'm weak. Sometimes a girl just likes to have fun." Rolling her eyes and laughing at her attempt at being authoritative and stern, Fleur took flight again, in her true acrobatic nature, and landed perched at the top of one of the sparse trees at her back. Balancing on one foot, she pulled back her left arm, just as she had so many times before, and began to charge one of her signature rosier coloured arrows. The long pin-like arrow began to glow brighter and brighter, pure Reishi being torn from where it could to power Fleur's upcoming attack. Just as the energy built up she felt her left arm fall-numb and in response, lackadaisically released an immense but focused volley of immensely long and thin pin-like arrows. The volley streaked down from the tree upon the aggravated Hollow whose very form became obscured by the mass of stingers.

A climactic swansong cry emanated from the cloud of dust of dirt that had been kicked up by Fleur's attack. As the final arrow fell, the dust settled and a massive crater had been formed from the force of her assault. The Hollow was no more and all was quiet once again. With ease Fleur dropped from the peak of the tree back to the side of her Quincy comrade and with a soft expression she smiled sincerely, "My name is Fleur, Fleur Quincampoix. As you see, I am a Quincy, just as I have observed you to be." Pushing her hair back with her left hand she rested her right upon her hip and sighed. "You see, it's been so terribly long since I've last used my Quincy powers that I wanted to just let loose and have some fun. Don't you ever feel like that once in a while?"

Seiji's lips quirked up slightly. "Forgive me, it was not in my intention to make you think that way." And then she was off again, graceful and elegant all the while that she was fighting. His eyes followed the attack, so very much like his own Volley of Quills but so different all at once. 'What an intriguing person...' He murmured, leaning back on his hands as he watched the dust clear away and settle. The Hollow was gone, and so was its' reiatsu. A sort of sadness welled up in him. "Requiescat in pace..." He muttered. The winds had died down and he ran his fingers through his hair, loosening it, and it curled wildly around his head, before he dropped down to the earthen ground, suddenly ready to leave this suddenly dull, uninteresting, and lonely place.

His female companion dropped back down to introduce herself. "Seiji Ishimara." He responded, tilting his head to the side slightly, mulling over her question. "I...suppose so. I wouldn't know, really." His father had been making him practice until his hands bled for every day for the past two years. He still had faint scars on his hands and forearms to prove it, and to remind himself of what he went through. He had to make up for the lack of experience, his father had said. And the Spartan-esque training had been the way to do it.

Fleur...What an odd name. "You're not from around here." It was more statement than question, but held a similar amount of curiosity without making it seem like he was pointing out the obvious too obviously.

"Seiji Ishimara," Fleur took a long pause, smiling as she slowly began to plot, "allow me to teach you the meaning of 'fun'." Ignoring his realization of the obvious, Fleur reached deep into one of her pockets and grasped a handful of disc-like tablets. Pulling them free, she presented her open hand before Seiji, a good dozen or so tablets mulling about in her palm. With a wink and a curt whistle, Fleur crushed the tablets, balling up her fist as tightly as she could. Then in one wide sweep of her arm she released a large cloud of dust that was quickly gobbled up by the greedy wind. Once again the sky grew dark and the earth shuddered, "best be on the top of your game, Seiji Ishimara."

Quickly, Fleur once again kicked off the ground and perched herself on the solitary nearby tree. Standing atop the large evergreen, the lithe half-French half-Austrian girl flicked her hair into the wind, the long brown locks lolling about with each gust. Preparing herself for the horde of Hollow to come, Fleur once again condensed a large amount of Reishi within her right hand and summoned her Quincy bow, "Seiji Ishimara, I ask two things of you: one; stay out of my way, and two; pull your own weight." Giggling softly the European youth focused in on the valley before her and cooled her anticipation, allowing an air of confidence and control to settle in.

Seiji had the gut feeling he knew what she was about to do before she did it, and knew he had gotten himself into something rather unpleasant. Was this her definition of fun? He couldn't see the entertainment in this in the slightest. He sighed a little as the winds picked up again, and Hollow reiatsu pressed down heavy and foreboding above him. Well, since she had already issued the challenge; might as well humor her a little. Fleur kicked up and landed on a high up branch, but he could still hear her clearly.

Seiji mimicked her movements, stretching out his left hand, his Quincy cross dangling in the wind, and let the Reishi gather. Within a moment, he had summoned his own Quincy bow; but it wasn't quite the traditional bow. It was more of a crossbow than anything. "Then I suppose I'll have to ask the same of you, Fleur Quincampoix." He replied, with something of a half smile, and took his place on top of a further away tree, the Reishi in his crossbow almost humming in anticipation of the fight that was to come.

And then the first wave arrived; a horde of grotesque beings with large holes in their bodies and bone-masks for faces. Seiji grimaced. He had never liked fighting, but he supposed he didn't like Hollows more...As the soulless creatures got closer, Seiji drew back his crossbow and initiated his fight.

For once, he was glad they weren't close to town that much.
