This is a story that I wrote for a school assignment of a descriptive essay. I hope you like. The young woman ran through the rain, silver hair trailing behind like a rippling waterfall. As she turned skyward her lavender eyes, she realized that this was no ordinary storm. The roiling clouds above looked as if they were holding back the wrath of some great demon. Looking back ahead, she saw a sight to make ice pool in her veins. Where the path should be, loomed a titanic crater that looked to be a harbinger of cataclysm. Upon reaching the crater, the woman stopped dead as if she had hit a wall of glass. In the crater was a gigantic swirling vortex that was throwing mist and clumps of earth far into the air. As the woman stared, one word came to mind: “Maelstrom”. As if summoned by the thought, a figure appeared from the mist wearing a black trench coat with shifting yellow trim. The clouds overhead seemed to shift and follow the man’s motions. A bolt struck the man with a great crash as if some massive child had smashed a metal drum that surrounds this moment in time. After the strike, the man stood up and emitted a cackling, manic laugh. The laugh sent chills shooting down the woman’s spine. It was the laugh of insanity. There was no mirth or cheer in the laugh, only a cold emptiness. As the woman stood frozen to the spot, the man faded into the mist. The woman recognized the man, and this recognition brought a new level of gloom to the world. Imperius. The name a curse, the man accursed. Imperius. The physical incarnation of all that is dark, all that is evil. All that is wrong. Like a demon summoned, Imperius appeared from the mist scant feet from the woman. Turning fathomless eyes to the woman, Imperius gave a smile with no warmth, only a chilly fear. Imperius laughed again. It was the laugh of the man cursed, the soul shunned. Imperius, bringing skyward his right hand, was struck by another bolt. When faded was the light, Imperius wielded a sword of bright blue blade, blood red hilt. Imperius had also lost the cloak. In its place, he wore armor of black shadow, and on his back, wings of ebon night. With shaking hands, the woman drew her own blade, and then closed her eyes. A divine light engulfed the woman momentarily. When the light faded, there was armor of white with gold trim. Opening her eyes, the woman stared at Imperius with eyes of liquid gold. Beckoning a challenge, the woman took to the sky, held aloft on wings of ivory moon, holding a sword with blade of silver starlight, hilt of golden sun. The two warriors clashed in battle, thus tearing the world asunder. So evenly matched were they, the battle soon came to a contest of endurance and resilience. Greater was the woman’s will. She had something to protect; Imperius, to destroy. Running her blade through Imperius, the woman won this contest. Thus were Darkness, Corruption and Strife defeated; Light, Innocence and Peace preserved. Imperius fell to be swallowed by the great Earth; His Evil beaten, his Will broken. Content to have saved the life of the Great Mother, the woman closed her eyes and drifted to the ground. When last she had open eyes, the woman found the clouds to be parting, the stars above revealed. Thus the woman drifted, destined to become a newborn child’s laugh, two lovers in embrace, happiness for all, peace for life. Serenity for eternity. END

How does this NOT have any replies yet? I'm floored! heart Though I disagreed with a little bit of your diction, eg "looking back ahead" (is she looking ahead..or back!?), overall I loved your writing! It was very poetic..and the images you painted..were stunning.
My rule of thumb is if the writer was successful in making the audience see what was in his or her mind's eye--it's a good piece of work. All the more true if they can hold said audience's interest.
You've got guts to post here, and I wouldn't mind reading more of your stuff. You've got potential, kiddo. 3nodding
