A thick layer of dust coated everything in sight. Nate ran his hand along a metal rail and inspected his dust covered hand. "Gross." he said as he continued to walk on wiping the dirt on his jeans. The factory looked like the perfect place to find extra pieces for his project.
In his spare time, Nate builds robots. He sold some for some extra cash, others he kept as either companions or for competition. It only made sense that he searched through the old abandoned factory. It was filled with pieces left over from when the production line was functioning.
The dust and poor lighting from the frosted windows left the lower levels looking rather eerie. As Nate descended the stairs, It looked like the shadows of demons escaping hell per projected on the walls from the left over machines that were now coated in forgotten webs and thick dust. It made one things very clear to Nate. What ever he found would have to be thoroughly cleaned before he did anything with it. Hesitating, Nate took the final step to the lower level and looked around. The conveyer belt seemed to have stopped in mid production. Incomplete parts were laid out on the belt with the automated arms hovering in place with various pieces in their cold mechanical grip.
At the end of the conveyer belt was the piece Nate was looking for. A motherboard for his newest little project. Nate made his way over to piece only to find that it was pinned down under a robotic soldering arm. Nate sighed in frustration and tried lifting the arm to no prevail. "Sonova-" he yelled kicking the arm. He looked around and started searching for the controls. He found a panel with lots of buttons and switches. Nate tried every button and switch and dial. Not so much as a click.
Just like everything else in his life, it didn't work. He kicked the panel, feeling to be in a kicking mood and started searching for a fuse box. He stumbled around in the dark for a few minutes until he found a ladder with a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. If this was one of his slasher movies, this would be the part he stumbled onto a bunch of dead bodies hanging from meat hooks.
At the bottom of the ladder was a large room with a chair and computer. He walked to sat down in the chair and blew on dust covered keys. He tapped on a few keys with no response from the monitors. He looked for a power button or switch or... something but again found nothing. He shook his head and returned to the ladder continuing his descent into a black abyss. Once inside he was about a third of the way into the room, the room ignited into a bright and illuminating glow. He was shocked and nearly fell off the ladder. He looked around the room at to see several massive towers arranged in a circle.
Nate walked up to one of the monster tubes and pulled put his hand on it. He felt the slight vibration like bee's in a hive that most electronic machines had. He figured it was from one of the many wires that protruded from the back of the tower. Nate slid his hand along the metal until he found a crease in the metal. He placed his fingers in the crease and began pushing. He attempted to pry the metal doors apart.
With great effort, Nate was finally able to open the panels. Nate was excited to look inside and see the fruits of his labor. He looked inside and saw a great big tube filled with nothingness. He was disappointed as he looked at the blackness and realized that it kinda resembled a Star Trek transporter. To fulfill his nerdy dream, Nate stepped inside, "Scotty, he started in his captain piccard voice as the doors slammed shut cutting his words short. Frantically, Nathan scratched at the door trying to find the crease he used to pry the door open.
He was scared when he couldn't find it and started screaming at the top of his lungs. "HELP! he yelled banging his fists on the door. He feared that if no one was came through here, he'd die in these metal tubes.
