Phineas Harlow is an unambitious heir to a small apiary in the unassuming village of Woodsend. There, the Harlow family made their livings by producing honey, beeswax, and pollen for the local hedge witch community. Phineas' mother is a practicing witch with to incredibly loyal daughters, and while Phineas often seeks to love and spoil his family, he is unable to understand the hedge witch practice to its fullest potential.
On a particularly dull night, Phineas drinks alone and attempts to begin his pilgrimage away from Woodsend into a completely new life. Despite his efforts, Phineas finds himself miserably lost in the wood, though he's unsure if he's truly lost at all. He wakes with a terrible headache and a small totem in his hands, to whom his sisters regard with mixed omen.
When Myrrh grows, Phineas finds himself with renewed attentions and care from his family. Myrrh instills in him a sense of responsibility to his work, but Phineas's mind is slowly wandering to other things-- he dreams of miraculous adventures away from the apiary. Despite Myrrh's frustrations, he wants nothing more than to encourage Phineas' dreams.

phineas and myrrh
Name: Phineas Harlow Age: 27, born in Summer. Occupation: A beekeeper. Story: At the farthest reach of Woodsend and near to the great forest were a family of beekeepers. The Harlows were often very busy folk, and Phineas Harlow was no exception-- by the age of ten he became, mostly by title, the prodigal apprentice of his father, Jury Harlow, and quickly learned the ins and outs of their strange little apiary.
Phineas held great expectations as Jury's only son, and had the responsibilities of looking after his four younger sisters, related through marriage by his stepmother, a timid young lady who hailed from Palisade. She took great efforts in raising Phineas alongside her daughters, and Phineas filled the role of second caretaker while his father was away on Kingsroad for trading purposes. It was only when Phineas turned eighteen that he was allowed to accompany his father on his ventures, though having to depart from his sisters so frequently proved difficult, given that they had all developed quite a warm relationship with one another.
The Harlows and their lives remained unchanged for several more years, though the need for Harlow honey steadily fell in demand as the seasons passed. By the time Phineas turned 20, travels through Kingsroad and to Palisade were infrequent, and Jury passed on many of the apiary's responsibilities onto Phineas due to infirmity. Despite Phineas' skill with the bees, the lack of travel to Kingsroad translated into more time with his family, and the apiary's proactivity and demand declined to the point of having to deliver to claimed Hedgewitches and other Woodsend locales.
This was enough to keep the bee farm running, surely, but Phineas was a great apiaris and haphazard business man, due to both his youth and lack of experience running one alone. Still, the bee farm sustained itself for a great many years, with Jury growing slowly discontent with the way his previously prodigal son was running things-- despite the Harlows' dedication to the Old Ways, dedication to Hedgewitches and Woodsend craftsmen alone was rarely enough to suffice his living habits, some of which were learned from his city wife.
By the time Jury was fervent enough to take action, however, Phineas considered himself the owner of Harlow ranch and found it difficult to hand over even a few responsibilities to his father. Phineas was 27, and felt a grown man prepared to take on the responsibilities of both a bee farm and his family: his oldest sister, after all, was wishing to marry, and that meant the apiary had to be in best shape for visits by potential guests.
And, when Jury relented to calm, the bees began to disappear.
Personality: Phineas Harlow is a hard-working family boy, raised rightly so since he could speak and waddle.
A perfectionist, but a busy-body with poor time management skills Self-deprecating/highly self-critical, sometimes to the point of it being crippling Demeanig of others; unsure if they work and play as hard as he can Stubborn, lone worker, despises charity Speaks when not spoken to, but honest, tries to be humorous Incredibly loyal, doesn't-ask-questions fealty, easily betrayed
Choosing: Why were the bees disappearing?
Relationship with Myrrh: COMPLETE 180
