Yup, I can hear the click of death. I've heard it for about a week now, every once and a while. Earlier today, something loading on Gaia gave it too much to work on and it just failed. It just did the click of death and a wind-like sound after each click. It was like it was on a respirator.

I got sent to Safe Mode, so I scavenged a Flash Drive and saved all of my s**t just incase rebooting wouldn't work. Well, it did work, but as I was starting up this thread I heard the click again. So, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting Windows 7 soon... And getting all of those random updates Windows has been bitching at me about... Flash mainly. Flash is probably why YouTube has been crashing on me a lot lately too.

So... Any suggestions? I have an HP Pavillion right now, it's about 5 years old. I'll probably get an HP again. My monitor is still good, so I may just go for the CPU this time, Best Buy. But, we'll see.

What is the best out there at the moment? Like... How many cores are we up to? I have duel core... 2GHz... I think it's actually 4GHz the way the computer displays it as 2GHz 2GHz... So I'm assuming it's telling me to add it. 320GB with 2048MB Ram.

I know the new s**t out there are in the TB and stuff. Eh, to be honest I know I don't need anything powerful. Just something to play RS on, YouTube it up and go on some forums.

At the same time, money ain't a big deal to me either so... Eh.

Just posting this out there in case anyone cares. xp

This would be computer # 2. First one only lasted 3 years.

Hi Air. cool

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+17.3"+Satellite+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+320GB+Hard+Drive+-+Black/4693133.p;jsessionid=6AFDA43F09939CF41202A0A734912E4C.bbolsp-app03-40?id=1218508093336&skuId=4693133

I'm running a 17in. 280GB, 4GHZ RAM Toshiba laptop similar to this one. For a $400 laptop, mine works like a charm. It isn't exactly "powerful", but feels modern and it's much faster than my previous very dated desktop.

I won't even be trying to play games Battlefield 3 on it, but it runs most games that weren't released in the last two years without any problems at all. Expect Runescape at high settings with no slowdowns even while multitasking.

Just my recommendation.

Oh and btw, do we still have a clan chat or active members? I've tried logging into RS but it's so lonely with my friend's list being all red with no one but Saber to talk to. Hell, I'll be fine with talking to guild newbies if we have any. Just wondering if there's still any life over here. I mean, you're still posting, so I'm being hopeful. razz

My computer is fighting the clicks it seems. Gonna rename it Glados if it lasts the month and make it play Still Alive over and over and over...

Sorry to hear that your computer's suffering from Alzheimer's, hope you find a decent solution! Unfortunately, I'm no good with computers, my current Laptop is coming up on two years and has a cracked screen and only one working USB port.
I'm thinking of replacing it next Christmas, that way I can write it off and not pay a dime.

Also, Kail, I (Oldenmager/Bartoasz) still get on the "Gaia Clan" chat, but I've not seen anyone on since last year, perhaps my timing is simply off. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm still somewhat active.

Yea, there's nothing I can really do to fix it. It's just good that I was able to back-up my stuff, cause it'd cost a lot to recover it had it just completely crashed.

There was no clicks the Sunday night, however it clicked a bit just before I went to work, and froze for a bit while clicking just before I was gonna leave. I left it to resolve itself and it became responsive rather than crashing like last time. Although I'm sure it crashed last time cause I tried to open some new windows while it was freezing up.

When it came to, I had an error about the Search Indexer stopped working. Now, I'm no expert of any Search Indexer, but by the name, I'd assume that's some background program that scans files and lists them in alphabetical order so that should I do a search, it would be quicker as the files are already organized by letter. More to that, seeing as it needs to scan the entire disk, it probably just ended up at the outer rim and caused the click.

Now, earlier today while there was no clicks, I was on RS and told everyone I was gonna take a small break. Get some food, and whatnot. Just before I was going to logout, the game logged out on it's own. Didn't recongize that logout, it wasn't a D/C. I logged back in cause it was funny, then someone was like... 6 hour logout. I was like... Wow... Don't think in my 8 years I've actually hit a 6 hour mark. Really, cause I do D/C far before then often. So... Not only am I intune with RS, but... My RS, Java and all that fun stuff that runs RS has nothing to do with the outer rim of my HDD. So, I could potentially have this computer running RS without problem. Also, why is it that it's able to run RS for 6 hours straight now, yet before there was many black screens of death? sweatdrop

Awesome. I'll talk to you whenever the timing is right and we happen to be on at the same time.

Current rsn? With the whole name changing feature, It's hard to keep track of who's who now days, and I'm not sure if you're currently on my friends list.

I go by Kail Horus now in case you were wondering.

Just got another Clicking episode. Windows Explorer has stopped working, it said and told me to close the program. I did so, and now my toolbar and all icons on desktop are missing. Only have this window and a FX window available atm.

I think I'm gonna have to push the power button in order to reboot my computer. >.>

Wondering if it's gonna be able to come back from this one. It had a clicking episode earlier today.

Wow, nice freeze that one was. Didn't even hear any clicks. Although I was out of my room the moment it froze. Like, it was 10:59 on the computer's clock and on my cell when I returned. Nothing but the mouse responded. Pressing the sleep key on the keyboard did nothing. I stuck around for 10 minutes to listen for any clicks and see if it's snap out of it, as in the past it had done so in that amount of time. Nothing, so I just hit the power and rebooted it.

This time it gave me the option to go into Safe Mode, it did not go to this screen the last time when I hit the button. Then again, everything was running fine the last time, it was just that I had no toolbar or desktop icons at the time.

So, I think my computer just had it's first zone-out.

It sounded fairly quiet too, pretty much it's idle sound that it's doing now. I can hear it writting stuff, it did that a tiny bit while it was zoned.

I think Tubby freaked it out, because he was in the room alone with it.

RS kept disconnecting me earlier today. Not sure why, although it's probably something to do with their login servers. Seems like they've been having issues every weekend. Don't think it was my computer. Wouldn't make sense, unless perhaps the hard drive was somehow affecting my internet connection even though the icon for the net never changed.

Each time I D/C'ed my friend kept saying "Lame" and each time made it more "epic". Going into 1337 and such and ending in this:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

LOL, he didn't buy that I D/C'ed on that, but it would have been awesome if he did. Him and his poor XP waste.

But yea, LAME is the word, I guess.

In other news!

Another clicking fit. Went into CHKdsk on reboot this time. Yea... I should really... Probably get onto getting a new computer. Sure this thing may last a while, although with disruptions. It'd be totally LAME for it to completely fail on a weekday when I won't have the chance to go out and get a new one. I could potentially be out of the netz for more than a day!

Also, I'm wondering... One of the last clicks caused ReadyBoost to stop working. I wikied ReadyBoost out of curiosity and it brought me to a page about SuperFetch. This thing runs in the background pre-loading files and stuff to help make actions faster. However, appearently it causes issues with Vista which actually causes the system to slow down. Which makes me wonder if perhaps it may have been a part of the disc wearing down. Why? Well, one thing that this computer had a nack of doing was often when I put it into sleep mode, or even if it went into sleep mode itself... The moment everything shut down, it would wake back up. No reason at all. I found that holding the sleep button helped reduce this from happening, but it did happen a good amount of times.

I've always assumed it was just something wrong with the computer and how it was wired, but... Perhaps this was the doing of SuperFetch and its issues with Vista? Insomniac computer is insomniacal.

Just bought this.

In an hour and 20 minutes it'll be ready for pick-up.

The guy is was telling us what was coming with it, mentioned Norton... I was like ******** NORTON and he was like, we won't include it or any other of those bloatware things and not charge you for the BS. I was like COOLSTORYBR0.

CH33ZUS!

This screen is huge. 25"... Res at 1920x1080. Wonder how RS is gonna look like on this.

Keyboard is gonna mess me up, in particular the Enter key. It's designed more vertical than horizontal... Gonna be hitting \ a lot instead of Enter for a while. lol

IE9... Is there a way to make it open new webpages in a new window rather than a new tab... I'm used to opening new windows... Also, I was trying to open new windows/tabs by right clicking the fav bar links... Doesn't work. You gotta click the scroll wheel button... ¬_¬ WHY?

How come this monitor weighs less than my old one? It's like, two of them turned sideways... That's how big it is. I could actually hook up te old monitor to the computer too, I think. I'd have to remove a plug that says DO NOT REMOVE to do so, but I do have the VGA cable for it. However, I don't know why I'd need a second screen. How would it even work? rofl.

Also, there's some Norton stuff on my computer... Doesn't smell like the trial, but I see it there... Dummy Geek Squad. Guess at some point I'm gonna have to download that thing that uninstalls Norton from Norton's website again. So redundant.

Actually... More to the point... Geek Squad set up the timezone as Pacific... Toronto is not Pacific...

Gotta search more stuff... SPACE... GOTTA SEE IT ALL... SPACE SPACE SPACE... SPAAAAAAAAAACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I forgot the mention what happened just before shutting down the old computer.

I already had the monitor set up in its stand, and the cpu out of its box. I plugged in my flash drive to save any of the current files I had recently saved to it so that I may transfer it. After removing the USB, the computer started clicking... Not for long, but had two small fits of it.

I then went to turn the computer off through the Start Menu, and when I got actually hovering over the shutdown option, it, the toolbar and the Start Menu all vanished for a split second and then returned. It did this every single time I tried to shut it down. It was fighting back, not wanting to be replaced. For this, I HAVE to call it Glados. It would have lasted the month easily... Probably could have gone the whole year... Although with many disruptions.. But it was...

Still Alive.
