Wading her way into the shallow water, Blanche dragged her paws through the water, turning where she was. It really was cooler, but she knew a place far far cooler. Golden orbs gazed over towards the barely visible centre, sliding her front paws down slowly. There was no way on high heaven she could fly back, not without causing a stir. Giving in for now, her front paws edged through the sand, the gryphon falling flat onto her stomach with a slight plop.

Pulling the blanket out, Emi placed the last stone on the edge of one triangular end. Parking where she was, the twenty three year old leant gratefully on the wicker basket. Her ears twitched with joy at the thought of salad, sandwiches and biscuits - she really would have to pay Abbey back one of these days.

"Thank you," She managed to start with, pulling herself away from the basket to peel open the lid, peering inside. Her large tail flickered behind her, metallic blue orbs watching the two gryphons from afar. Abbey dragged her back though, gardening? She'd always loved it back at home. Not the actual planting of flowers, but she'd nurtured a few trees from mere seeds back home.

"I'm afraid our gardens pretty much on the none existent side at the moment, so I'd love some seeds if you have any to spare," Emi started herself, shutting the lid of the basket to rest her tawny arms over. Crossing her arms loosely over the lid of the box, she found herself joining into the absentminded ramble, only gazing up every so often to check Blanche and False.

"I loved gardening back at home, well- I'd love to help you out with some planting." Rambling on, the palm trees rustled with a slight breeze- the wind dispersing as quickly as it arrived - taking with it any chance of a cooler day.

"Oh, I have plenty to spare. I'm worried that they're going to die before I get to plant them - no time between doing this and that. Maybe you can come over some time," Abbey replied absentmindedly, looking over at the gryphons. She paused, and, fanning herself again with a hand, stood up, "Well, we came to cool down, so we may as well get wet."

She paused for a moment to roll up her pants (yes crazy woman wears long sleeves and pants in hot weather), then walked over to the water - nearby to where False was relaxing. The girl tested the water with the tip of a foot before stepping in carefully, letting the water roll over her feet, "It's nice, isn't it?"

False lifted his head at the approach of his keeper. She didn't seem to be coming any further into the water - even though it was nice and cool. He tilted his head, puzzled, before wading in further. He dipped his head into the water, and managed to just get out on the tips of his paws before a wave swept him back onto the shore. Momentarily a tangled bundle of fur and feather, he recollected himself quickly. With a bit of discontent and displeasure, he trotted again part way into the water, this time keeping well enough in the shallows. The waves were unpredictable enough for him to feel doubtful about going too far in.

Abbey watched him warily, restraining the maternal instinct to carry him off to somewhere where there wasn't so much a possibility of him getting swept away. She called at him, "Don't go out too far, love."

"I'd love to, and I'm sure Blanche wouldn't mind popping over to play with False again, let's go," Picking herself up onto feet, Emi clicked in the back of her throat - a strange sound, but one a certain four legged dog understood. Flicking her tail from one side, both furry and canine followed Abbey down towards the shore line.

Miles upon miles of light blue water lay ahead of them, stretching out as far as the sky could see. Blanche laid just a way in, her body sat on top of her pristine paws, swiveling her head as her guardian approached behind. Tail swishing from one side to the other, her beak opened, clacking together in a click.

Pausing before the water lapped over her furry paws, Emi knelt to remove the ribbon wrapped tightly around her right ankle. Pulling the orange ribbon free, it fell for a moment, the ornate silver bell tinkling as gravity pulled it down towards the water. Wrapping the accessory around her wrist, the furry pulled up, taking her first step into the water.

Her eyes closed tightly briefly, reminiscing the icy cold water of Barton lapping over her tawny paws. Slitting one eye open, and then the other - metallic blue eyes quickly being shrouded from the relentless sun with a furry hand.
"Much better, you've got the right idea little one. Abbey, have you ever brought False swimming?" Bending down, she extended her fingers to brush over her Aerandir's ears. Blanche cocked her head to one side, yellow eyes closing momentarily, emitting a happy click.

Toby pawed his way in. One white paw hit the water after another, the dog bounding in a little way. Pawing up to False, he parked down beside the soaked male Aerandir. Tail swishing from one side to the other behind him, he cocked his head to one side.

Sliding her pants legs furtherup her legs, Abbey waded forward a bit and sighed appreciatively as the water lapped at her legs. She answered Emi amiably, "Yeah, he's swum before -- shallow water though. Never the sea before." Her gaze flicked over to the Aerandir, slightly closer to the shore than her, but still further out than she would like, "I hope he'll be okay... I don't want to be the smothering mother though."

She sighed contemplatively. It was difficult for her to find a balance when she usually didn't have a problem being overbearingly protective of her loved ones.

Meanwhile, the object of her thoughts peered up at the much larger creature as Toby approached him. False cocked his head up at the dog, wondering what to do. Deciding that it was much too hot in the sun to think about doing anything, he padded a bit deeper, and dipped his head underneath the cooling seawater. Raising his head above the water again, he shook himself off before bounding back at the dog, looking for some playtime.

Abbey blinked at the sudden question, and considered it slowly, "Well... I don't know whether you'd consider it a pet, but I did bring a Hippocampus. I'm not sure if they have them in this world - it's a Drake, sorta like a mini-Dragon, I suppose." She hummed, thinking to herself and glanced around; perhaps hoping that it'd be somewhere nearby, "It comes back to my house to sleep sometimes, but other than that, I can't really say that I own it. They feed off emotions, not actual food, and mine's rather antisocial..."

She squinted up at the sky but still didn't see the telltale sign of teal. "Apart from that and False, I'm pretty much alone at home. Oh! But, a..." a slight pause, "... A relative comes to visit sometimes," she beamed at Emi, more cheerful talking about her adoptive uncle, "He hasn't been around lately but it'd be nice to have you two meet."

The girl kicked at the water, watching the droplets scatter into the air, and bent down to splash some water on her face. Still doubled over, she tugged at her collar a bit, attention still on the rolling waves as she tried to cool herself down a bit more. She contemplated the lull in conversation. Would it be too invasive for her to ask questions? But it seemed only polite to continue the conversation... There was a second of hesitation before she began, smiling up at Emi, with her hands busy trying to roll her pants up further, "What about your family? Did you come from the mainland?"

False reared back in surprise as he got a face full of very wet water, flapping his wings frantically and sending more of the liquid flying everywhere. After a moment, he decided it wasn't so much of a bad thing. The drenched little gryphon tucked his wings back and tried to look dignified, at this point not looking that much better than Blanche. On that note... He peered over at the white gryphon. With a flapping of wings, he awkwardly wade-skipped over, tilting his head questioningly to scrutinise the stone in the other's beak. What was that what was that?

"A hippocampus? I've never seen one, but I'm sure they exist. After all, Gaia is so diverse these days," Gaia really was diverse, more now than ever. If you looked hard enough anyone could find anything from a flying cat, to a snake demon and then down on the lower end of the spectrum (although hard to find) a mere human. The waves reflected off her eyes, deep metallic blue orbs shining brightly in the sun.

Treading one paw before the other, Emi bent down, cupping a pool of water between clasped hands. Large ears faltering back against her head, the water slowly dripped out between her fingers - little callus splashes littering a forthcoming wave. Curling her now rather wet tail around, the fluffy tip brushed through the water, curving a wave newly forming towards them.
It was only when Abbey asked the question did the tips of her dark ears flicker. Her family? "My family? We were from the mainland. My Father's a carpenter, and my Mother run's a bookshop just up north from Barton. I want to take Blanche to meet them one day, when she's a little older mind." Ending there for just a moment, her furry fingers dipped back into the water, bringing them up to splatter clear sea water at her arms.

"It seems funny, but I have a friend from work that's like a little sister to me. Older than me, but she can be a right nuisance, how about yours?" Babbling on, Emi broke out in a true smile, splashing the cooler water over her arms and ankles. The water sprayed out around her, droplets pit falling like miniature Para-shooters back into a sea of a similar liquid.

The female Aerandir happily parked her rump on the sea floor. Tail swishing underwater, the odd droplet trickled off her furry cheeks and onto the floor, dripping sea water all around her. The rather drenched looking mole-rat watched false, dropping the stone right in front of him. It fell back with a plop, the grey stone sinking back into the layer of grained sand beneath them.
Was he after the pebble too? Smaller ears twitching, she waded one paw before the other, standing up exactly opposite him.

The canine peered at them both, treading one white paw before the other. Wading back to his master's side, his tail swished from one side to the other. Gearing himself up, he shook his head, tail - and then his whole body, sending water flying over a rather surprised guardian. Jets flew over Emi, and anybody too near. Now, a hippocampus couldn't do that, or could it?

[ >___< sorry about the delay -- seven or eight exams / assessments over the last week. complete hell. WILL NOT LET RP DIE. ]

Abbey squinted as the water splashed over her, raising an arm to her face. She chuckled at Tobey's antics, and bent over at the waist to scritch him behind the ears.

"You mean my family?" she asked, addressing Emi, before pausing to consider. She supposed that the Marsettes counted. "They're in a different world at the moment - I took False to visit them when I went back home awhile back." she raised her hand and counted on her fingers, "Two little sisters and a little brother, two... One big brother and one big sister... Well, we're not all blood related, but we look out for each other, and they're the closest that I have to family at the moment. My real family travel around a lot, and I decided to settle down, so I don't keep in touch with them much." Close enough to the truth, she decided.

False blinked as the other Aerandir dropped the stone, then dove after it, snapping enthusiastically at the bottom for it and getting a beakful of sand for his efforts. He surfaced, spitting out the sand - can a bird spit? - with some dismay. He shook his head, then body, scattering drops of water everywhere, before submerging again, this time carefully picking up the stone with his beak. His head popped up again, and pleased, he frolicked some way back to Abbey.

Abbey blinked as her Aerandir waddled up to her, splashing some water onto her pants as he pawed at her for her attention. He had picked something up? "What's that, honey?"

She bent over awkwardly, trying to keep her pants as dry as possible, and stretched her hand towards him, opening her palm, where he dropped the stone neatly. She eyed the pebble, stating with some puzzlement, "It's a stone." False rubbed his head against her hand, evidently waiting for some praise, and Abbey smiled, bemused, patting him as he preened, "That's lovely, dearest. I'll keep it for you, and we'll add it to your collection when we get back home, hm?"

((Don't worry about it - I've been just as busy. Hope you don't mind if I start to wrap this up, just thought it might be best as it's slowly dying. >.<))

Not even a speck of grey had befallen that sky a few moments ago, until now that was. Long white wisps of clouds suddenly dispersed from the landscape, spindling off at either side as if they were falling off the horizon all together. That wasn't a problem in itself, but what followed however was.

"Families family, even if people aren't related." Pulling up to her feet, Emi's ears faltered back to her head. Something wasn't right. One paw etched across the grained sand, a black claw dragging the sand right through to create the tiny pathways. Grains of sand swirled like cars, spinning down the road just to congest it a moment later - all traffic falling to a close.

The little aerandir wagged her tail. Water dripping from her coat still, she waded one white paw before the other, treading her way forwards towards Abbey and False. Black beak pressed forwards towards the shiny pebble, the gryphon tilted her head to one side. False was getting a cuddle.... Turning, she eyed up her guardian.
Smaller ears twitching, she hopped over towards Emi. Careful not to become completely soaked, the arctic Aerandir spun around Emi's huge dark chocolate paws. Finding a safe landing point, she pulled herself up onto two paws, resting her front two onto her guardian's legs.

Enjoying his brief moment in the sun, Toby tilted his head right to one side as the younger woman paused to scratch his ears. Fluffy tail thumping behind him, even he hadn't quite realised the complications of the weather about to hit him. A single drop trickled down the side of his furry cheek. Only then did the dog turn, muzzle lifting to the sky.

"Come on up then," Lifting Blanche up, Emi curled her arms over one another: letting the soaking wet gryphon settle where she was. Which of course Blanche did, happily preening her fluffy cheek towards her mother's shirt. Clicking, the Aerandir didn't even notice a raindrop fall onto her head.

Suddenly, without warning, masks of grey and black fell before the ocean blue's eyes. Empathy wasn't in a rain clouds dictionary, and just to prove it - the meshed blanket threw the heavens down towards the beach. Rain as heavy as a waterfall splashed down, soaking the inhabitants of the island in minutes- that of course if they didn't move in time.

Absinthium looked up towards the sky, dismay evident in her voice, "But it was so clear just a moment ago!" She sighed, straightening up and wading back towards the blanket and the basket, with the food which hadn't really been eaten, "I suppose we better head back, if we don't want to get soaked... Weather out here is so unpredictable..."

Not that she minded a soaking, with the weather. She despised humidity, but the downpour would be welcome once she got home, both for her plants and for the respite of the heat and sun. Adults aren't generally supposed to stand outside in the rain she mused to herself, slightly disappointed.

False loped after her, treading through the heavy water. They couldn't be going home because of the rain, could they? It was just water! He was already drenched, anyway! Silly Abbey. He ruffled his feathers, but obediently followed after her; it wouldn't do for him to miss lunch, in any case.
