Overall, Justin was impressed. The amount of details they had to put into these crystal formations and their glow effect, at first when his recruiter had mentioned a whole new level of gaming prior explaining the expansion pack he had been rather dubious about it all. Especially when the recruiter keep on mentioning the words real and violent. Usually blood effects were all half-assed after all.
But no, this really, really really was the real deal. The beta tester in the room had proved so: Justin could barely contain himself at how virtual reality everything really was. Best game. Ever.
This was possibly the one-hundredth time he had repeated those words to himself.
Ten thousand flights of stairs later - here he made a mental note to report how arduously long the walk was, really, they should let the beta testers spend more time cutting things and fighting mobs and obviously, leveling up - he finally made it to the bottom-
- to find everything was empty. Well, not so much empty as in a little lacking of any mobs to fight or even a mini boss. Another fetch quest? This one better not have a freaking cutscene And so, he wandered around the vicinity of the room, taking second to admire the tablets displayed on the walls. Uhhh, what was he supposed to be looking for again?
And so, Justin waited. And waited. And, well, waited.
[ 'If I may interrupt-' ]
No, shut up random voice in his head, he was waiting.
[ 'Well see what you're waiting for is-' ]
What could a random voice in his head know that he possibly did not know? Justin sighed. "Okay then, spill."
[ I've been trying to tell you for the last five minutes! ] The voice was female and sounding slightly put out. [ If you reach your hand towards me and- ]
"Wait, what?." He looked around at the empty space and then dubiously, placed one hand over his chest, right at where he assumed his heart would be, that's how it worked normally right? No effect.
[ .... Over to your left, here. ]
Justin turned to his left. A wall.
[ IN THE WALL. ]
Oh, a key! A glowing stone key, even. That made a lot more sense than all that touchy feeling soul grabbing thing, thank god, the game had him worried for a second. Justin grabbed the key and-
- in his hands was a strange curved weapon, a hand-axe perhaps? He turned it over, examining the strange glowing runes etched on the blade.
[ Finally ] The voice in his head groused. [ I thought you were just going to leave without me. Well, anyway, my name is Tiferet and I am- ]
- "HOLY CRAP I HAVE A LEGENDARY WEAPON." Best game. Ever.
