This new revelation captured Melka's wandering attention, steering it back to the conversation at hand rather than side thoughts. "Something bad?" What sort of something bad? If it was going to happen to the pack, shouldn't they warn them? ...perhaps they had already tried. Ears laying back, giving her a curious, saddened expression, she guessed, "...they wouldn't listen, would they?"
Melka's gaze traveled over the surroundings, taking in the beauty around them while her thoughts turned in other directions. Finally, she flopped down into the grass and rolled over on her back, staring up at Nova and the butterflies above. "If you think you should go...then maybe you should. Maybe the lifestream has a different path for you. Different from your cousins?" After a moment more, she shifted and focused on Nova's muzzle. "What's it like having cousins? I've never had any."

"Nobody ever listens to Aislin," he said, with a shrug. "She dreams too much. Once she dreamed that I grew butterfly wings and flew into the sun, but that didn't happen. So it's hard to guess if she's right or not."
He gave her question some consideration. He thought of his family -- his large numbers of siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews. So many relations that he had come to assume that everyone was related to him in some way or another.
"It's busy," he said, finally. "Loud, and crowded. And no one ever pays much attention to you. Which can be nice, but it's also hard." His brow furrowed. "It might be different with other cousins. My whole family is a little....weird." That might be the understatement of the year. But he found himself very self-conscious about it, even though this dark-furred female didn't seem the type to be overly judgmental. He wasn't sure which made him more embarrassed: That all of his family was crazy, or that he was so boring and normal.
"The biggest problem is that it gets boring. Everybody knows you. Sometimes they knew you before you even knew yourself."
Then, something rolled slowly into place in his mind, and his brow furrowed. "...If something bad is coming, though, maybe you should come with us," he said. "I'd hate for you to be here by yourself and get caught up in it."
