This is hopefully going to be a little birthday gift for a friend of mine. It was painted from a photo I took on top of the Franz Josef glacier in New Zealand.

I still have to do some more on it. I kinda lost the mid tones and variety of colour in the glacier when I got a bit excited with the shadows and glare.

When it is finished I'll take a better photo during the day so I actually have some light in my bedroom.

That's an earlier shot of it next to the original photo.

See ya! mrgreen

*excuses, excuses*Umm..scanning, as you probably know, utterly fails with canvas and my phone camera- though pretty snazzy for a phone- is only 1 million pixels.

I quite like these biggrin

The water looks like water, the motion is perfect, I like to colors. Fun stuff to look at, short and simple.

i think the water is ice, but either way i really like it as well. i dont know if it changes to fell of the image in a way you dont want, but i almost wonder if it would look cool the make the sky a more saturated yellow.

-Yeah, the water is indeed frozen but I appreciate how ridiculously blue I made it; this was mostly just an effort to lighten the painting as the actual photo is alot darker on the glacier itself and I wanted to bring more detail into it.

(also, and this might sound a bit crap, but standing on top of this glacier- it's so enormous and so over-bearing- you do feel like you are standing on a dangerous sea of ice, so the fact that it came out like a frozen wave actually pleases me in that way.)

-I really liked the yellow and orange in the sky, you can just barely see it in the photo and I was pleased at myself for taking that step and bringing it out but I think you're right in that I could have been more inventive with it.

I guess I was just erring on the cautious side.

*Thanks for the comments guys, I was scared of leaving the page with 0!
