The World Is My Home

It wasn’t that Ryan was an idiot. The boy was just entirely too trusting of others. He just believed everyone deserved a chance. The Great Dane had never encountered shifter hunters either. He didn’t know they had a certain smell. Most humans were just naturally drawn to him when he was in dog form. This large size would sometimes detour them but never for very long. Little humans in general always draw to him. No matter he was taller than them. He was just that kind of shifter. Living a pretty sheltered life till he came to the Joslyn pack. But the safety of the pack also made him not worry about humans in the slightest. They have never gave him cause to fear them. Even though he had heard some horror stories from other members in the pack, he still couldn’t bring himself to distrust them. Ryan felt the same about most shifters too. Except cats…they still bothered him. Bothered him, not made him feel afraid. So, it was very Ryan thing to do to trust the human female in the middle of a forest. She seemed to be hurt. Maybe she just needs someone to show her some kindness? he thought as he gave her a low woof as her hand started to come towards him.

Everything seemed fine! He was getting pet, which was something he adored. He closed his eyes and gave a small happy sigh. A sweet trusting moment, that soon turned terribly wrong. A low growl caused his eyes to snap open as his head turned towards the noise. Seeing the black wolf Ryan knew it was Anita. She was one of his friends. One of the females that he was close to because of his easy manner and just all around good guyness. It wasn’t surprising to him that she was growling at Camille. She never trusted anyone. Or at least it seemed she had a hard to time. But this blonde woman was going to be nice to them. Or at least that was what Ryan truly believed. The mouth of the large Great Dane was about to woof something when a needle was shoved into him. A loud yelp was made as his body tensed. He turned to look to the blonde but found that she was already on the move past him towards Anita. Ryan felt his body starting to go lax. The moment he stand to move to try and help Anita, he fell to the side.
"Uggghhh," he grunted.

Ryan couldn’t ever remember being unconscious before. It would have been frightening when he finally woke up. But at the moment, there was nothing. He didn’t hear the gun shots that rang out. Didn’t hear the blonde make comments or feel here pick her up. Nope, there was nothing. The only slight feeling he could possibly feel was guilt and stupid. Because if he hadn’t been sitting with the woman, perhaps he would have saved Anita from being shot at. If he would have been mean or hard against the unknown blonde that was carrying him towards the truck he probably would have been shot at and Anita wouldn’t have came closer. Though, there was no way to know that for sure. Ryan sure felt that way before he fell in to the blackness
