So I showed my Mom the photos from a weekend away with the girlfriend today.
Upon seeing them, she goes:
Too much lipstick I'm better off as a female Girlfriend is better off as a male
emotion_facepalm
Hence my question. If making conversation with me is insulting my trans state and the girlfriend wanting to be a drag queen, what exactly is complementing us then?

I don't know either one of you but if I had to make a guess for why you two complement each other is your understanding of one another as from what you said, you both are probably have similar experiences and going through the same thing.
Maybe your mom is just trying to get used to everything? I can't really say for sure, only you and the ones that know you well can really answer that.
