Frey eyed Emkin after the girl's response, clearly taking in the girl's meek behavior. Her thoughts on that were clear on her face. Maybe Emkin wasn't suited then, because handlers had to be strong enough to manage their whers and not shrink from the duty.
Kindra's accusing tone made Frey stiffen and her back straightened with the pride that had been implied in some of her words earlier. Though she didn't respond in a nasty tone, her eyes bored into Kindra's. Before she could speak, Dinah took care of it, and Frey nodded at Dinah's contribution. It seemed like the girl was lifting in her estimation more as time went on. "If you'd been listening, Junior Goldrider, we were just discussing who would have helped the murderer. What makes you so suspicious of me then using the plural, eh?" There was accusation in Frey's words as well, but she blew past it with a nervous turn of her head. She looked back to the other people around her. "Anyway, you mark my words. There's never just one involved in big plots like this. It has to be a conspiracy with more than one person involved, people who have something they want and they're using the murders to get it."
She looked over at Tsubari's question and shrugged, a quick, jerk of a thing. "How should I know? We wherhandlers are doing are best to try to increase security at the weyr; we can't be worrying about who isn't doing their job elsewhere. We're too busy doing our own. All I will say is that whoever they are, they're clever enough that I doubt they'd be doing it in the open where riders or handlers would find them, would they?"
Her eyes shuttled past the group and around the mess hall at large. "And... I don't think I should say anymore. You never know who's listening."
Frey stood abruptly with her words. The Green wher at Frey's feet stirred and finally opened her eyes before pushing herself slowly to her feet. The movement would have forced anyone close to Frey to take a step back, and the whirling orange of her eyes did not encourage anyone to step close again.
"Good-bye." She quickly shoved between Emkin and Tsubari, her wher lumbering after her and encouraging Emkin and Tsubari to make the gap wider-- unless either of them wanted to be stepped on. Frey didn't look back, not even once.
