If you haven't noticed already, many websites are blacked out today in protest of the SOPA and PIPA bills. These include Wikipedia, Google (though they only blacked out their logo), and many more. More infoEven MoreA lot more[For those who don't know, PIPA is essentially the same as SOPA, but it's the bill in the Senate.]

Although I pretty sure none of you support SOPA, there is one thing I want to say. If you support SOPA, leave Gaia now, it probably won't survive SOPA anyway if that infernal bill pass.

It makes me a little sad that some sites ( like gaia ) might not survive. Although I'm only going off what others have said.
Many gaians have put a lot of time & money into this site. We've made friends, homes & hang outs here.. would be really sad to see it go.
I've thought about it a lot. Should I carry on with my own guild if it may not even exist soon? My answer always comes out to yes.. It may be a small guild but knowing at least one person gets some entertainment from it helps me carry through with my commitment. It's been a pleasure spending time on this site & I hope that I can keep doing that for many years to come.

Make your guild; don't let this act stop you. smile SOPA and PIPA won't pass as support for it is decreasing. The consequences of these bills are coming to light more and more, and at this point it seems like there are A LOT more cons than pros. Those two acts won't affect just pirating. It'll take away a lot of websites like Facebook, YouTube, deviantART, etc. It will take jobs away and damage the economy because internet-based businesses will sink. Even if websites aren't pirating, just being accused will shut a website down. Hell, those two acts won't even affect pirating at all. The people pirating content will just change their web address again and again. And apparently (not 100% sure on this since I heard it from a friend) since the internet is used so much in most peoples' lives, the UN declared the internet a human right. And if by some weird misfortune SOPA and/or PIPA do get passed, I highly doubt it will be in effect for long. I predict riots, and lots of them.

Some hackers via the Anon group hacked the FBI, Universal, and a few other major companies and government websites were taken down briefly in protest to Megaupload being taken down. If they did that just over Megaupload... imagine DA, other image hosting websites, forums with a lot of copyrighted stuff used in posts/signatures/avatars (Yes, even Gaia has taken copyrighted stuff and sold it in item form... they are screwed), facebook, myspace, etc etc etc... I think they overreacted to Megaupload going down, but I expect the same thing when SOPA goes up... except 100x more devastating to those who are hacked.
