"Oh oh, hey!"

Star snapped back to consciousness, blinking a few times from a seat he had found in front of a rather large boa exhibit to focus on where Kreutz's voice had come from; the seat was really nothing more than a platform for the glass than anything else. He leaned forward to find Kreutz pointing excitedly to... yet another snake. The child giggled at Star's befuddled expression before turning back to the snake, sticking his own tongue out at it in response to the ribbony reptile's attempt to sniff him out.

"Having fun with those snakes, are you?" Star queried, amused though lacking the inflection to convey it. He ended up yawning after the posed question.

Kreutz huffed, but tried to feign that he didn't find Star's lethargy offensive. Couldn't he have pretended that he was interested? That he wasn't just falling asleep at every turn? No matter that Star did that with everything, even when it came to the man's own interests... Kreutz couldn't help but feel utterly frustrated.

But he was capable of hiding it while Star was paying attention. So he resumed his progress down the stone hallway, his steps slowing down to see every last one of them. He would lose Star when he next fell asleep. It wouldn't be too difficult, and Kreutz could probably even make it back before his guardian knew different. He couldn't hide the impish grin, but he let it show -- his back was turned to Star anyway.

Morphius didn't really enjoy when Jacob took it upon himself to be a "fun parent". All that that meant was that he dragged him out of his room, where he was perfectly content to practice his skills and not talk to other kids, to some silly exhibit or group thing that was always contrived and DUMB. It was all the sulky toddler could do to not sneer at every attempt to entertain him.

But this reptile exhibit... He was beginning to think that he might not be completely bored as he meandered around the cages, casting his dark eyes carefully over every animal. They all had something about them that made them interesting; that one was really fast, that one really long, and that one had a really loud hiss... The smallest of small smiles appeared on Morphius' face as he pressed a button and was treated to that same hiss, a loud roar-like noise that filled that half of the hall. Maybe his daddy hadn't done such a bad job. This time.

As he continued his exploring, Morphius found himself sticking out his tongue at each snake, trying to encourage them to stick back. He liked their tongues a lot; they were really spooky colors like black and blue. Peering at his own average pink tongue, he frowned. He wanted a black tongue. Daddy had a black marker; maybe he could use that when they went home.

And then, by chance, a flicker of blue flashed in the corner of Morhpius' vision. Turning around quickly, he noticed a taller boy, all covered in stars it seemed, walking around the corner of another cage. Curiosity piqued, Morphius followed him with all of his stealth (so not much), watching the boy's mouth carefully, almost creepily. If he stared, he could start counting the similarities between the older boy and another creature he'd seen in a cage a few minutes ago, called a skink. Why was a skink-boy here? Wouldn't he already know about things like this?

"You look..." he murmured in the boy's general direction, half to himself, "just like a skink..."

Kreutz leaned his index finger against the glass of the nearest cage, wondering how long it would take before the bead-scaled rattler were to take notice of the nearby source of heat. It didn't occur to the boy that, just maybe, the blood that pumped through his hands might very well be much cooler than the warmth provided by the blaring lamp. In fact, this obliviousness was only aided by the fact that Kreutz was mostly keeping an eye on Star for when he next drifted off, if covertly.

It wasn't until Morphius neared that his attention snapped back to his present surroundings, the unfamiliar bright hues of the toddler catching him off-guard. He blinked, dumbfounded for a moment, as his mind caught up with him. Was that kid... Eilian? The assessment seemed grounded in truth, but the fact that Kreutz hadn't been able to meet another like him led to questioning the validity.

Such facts became a moot point when the toddler's comment -- although most words were partially lost in the cavernous exhibit -- reached the older betzalel's ears. Skink. Kreutz couldn't help but beam at the comment, "That's right!" Even though there was the obvious explanation that the two of them were in a reptile exhibit, and there were examples of skinks on display, Kreutz felt impressed that the toddler remembered the name of the slightly-obscure species.

Forgetting his little science test with the rattlesnake, Kreutz moved a little nearer. The toddler didn't look like anything the tanned child could put his finger on, which seemed to disappoint him; he couldn't return the sentiment. He refrained from guessing on his bizarre appearance, taking a more amiable approach, "You like them, then?" Maybe it would goad his new acquaintance into suggesting others that he liked, ones Kreutz may have missed.
