Once more, Beltrán found himself acting as escort to the one who was currently charged to be looking after the Eilian himself. While such an arrangement wouldn't have necessarily ruffled the hybrid's literal feathers, as it would otherwise make the boy still feel independent, the fact that it was Selby nullified such impressions. It was like trying to take a cranky child somewhere, one who would rather be yanked along the path instead of walking with his own two legs, only in less of an attention-grabbing way.

It was the latter part of the afternoon before they managed to get out the door. They still had a few hours of sunlight left in the day, but it would still be quite the feat if they managed to make it back before light completely vacated the sky. Selby couldn't have been moving any slower if he was pulling himself around by the arms. It got to the point that Bel had to have the man hold on to the ravenmoth's cloak in order to lead him around. It was absurdly annoying... if -- he couldn't help but admit to himself -- just a tad hilarious.

"C-Can't we just go back? M-m-maybe we could go i-in the morning... really early..?" Selby suggested, just over a squeak of a request.

"We're out of food, and you haven't eaten all day. I could probably handle it no problem, but you..." he responded without a thought before he paused and snickered, "You're a wimp, let's face it."

Selby would have made a face at the comment, had he not been so terrified of being outside the familiar walls of home. Bel knew this, and mentally chalked up another point to himself. If he was going to be forced to play mommy to this grown man, he was going to be sure and retaliate in the manner he was most comfortable: as a kid.

Silver fox was walking slowly down the road, his eyes locked on the small figure walking before him. An outing with Aoe was always interesting, but it was also always nerve wracking.

Not a city dweller at heart, and living on the fringe of society in a cabin kept him well away from most of the hazards of city life, but it also meant that when he had to go into the city, it was most often for important things... like calming Aoe down, and letting him socialize with others.

As if having a toddler with him wasn't hard enough, the choice of clothing that Aoe insisted upon wearing was drawing strange looks. Always with the skirts and corsets.

"I still think you are far too young for that, why not wear the cute jumper I bought for you?" Silver said softly, trying again to coax the young boy into at least trying something new. The response was just what he anticipated.

Aoe spun around, his face going red and hand clenching tighter around the thorny rose he carried with him all the time. (Why didn't that thing ever die? Was it somehow living off of Aoe's life or something? That didn't bode well..) Rather than words the small boy started to shake his head wildly before he took off running.

"Crud!" Silver fox took off after the little betzalel, but not before Aoe ran into someone heading in the opposite direction.

"...Bel... Bel, isn't it going to g... get dark soon? M-maybe we should head back after all..." Selby offered sheepishly, already wincing at the inevitable answer. He knew what was to come, so he didn't honestly know why he bothered asking. Maybe it was a way that he could cope with feeling so vulnerable, which he admitted was rather strange for someone so soft-spoken.

Beltrán, of course, wasn't sure if he were up to this little game. He may have been insistent on acting like a child himself, but he didn't mean by going in circles about it. Sighing, he growled briefly under his breath about the situation, but decided to play along. He'd get Selby back, so help him. "Hours, Shell. We've literally got hou--oof!"

"OhmyGod, Bel, what was that!?" Selby freaked, attempting to cling tighter to the cloak in his hands. Hesitantly, he tried to look over Beltrán's shoulder to try to decipher what it was that the boy had collided with.

Bel had backed up when the toddler had run headlong into the preteen, partly to decrease any damage that could be done to either party involved. Once he regained his bearings, the ravenmoth crouched down, just about forgetting his guardian was there at all. "Hey kid, you okay? You running away from something?" he asked, taking a quick glance around. Seems he recognized immediately what the child was, but was unable to grasp much else about the situation in the allotted time given.

Selby, while he remained standing, seemed to shrink back into his sweater. He saw Silver Fox trying to catch up to the toddler, but the sight of someone -- anyone -- running toward him made him extremely uncomfortable. He was doing everything he could just to not pull on the drawstrings of his lowered hood.

Silver Fox turned the corner just in time to watch the inevitable collision occure. He winced and hissed out a soft groan, walking slower toward the scene, ready to apologize. The one good thing, was that it managed to slow down the red and black haired boy.

Aoe's arms pinwheeled a moment before he landed on his backside. With huge eyes he peered up at the new person, realizing in a moment that this other was more like him than Silver Fox was. That was actually something good!

"I's wunning away fwom Siver Fawks.." Aoe said, trying his best to look bold at the statement, so much as anyone could sitting on their backside looking up at someone older than him. By this time though, he had pretty much forgot why he was running, just that he had been.

Picking himself off the ground he nibbled on his lower lip, clenching his rose tighter, before trying to hide under the raven moth's cloak too, not aware it was already taken. He could see Silver coming and didn't want to be seen. (though he already had been)
