Tristan grew up in Kingston, the younger son of a fairly well-to-do landowner and businessman. As his older brother was going to inherit the family business and manor, Tristan was sent to university and then ushered off onto the island to make a name for himself.
Enterprising and opportunistic, Tristan has little difficulty in finding schemes for extra coin. Unfortunately, he doesn't always think his plans through, and he is still quite young and naive in some respects.
He will do nearly any kind of work that comes his way. Before obtaining his first fighting mokai, Tristan made most of his living by peddling wares and doing street magic, which he is quite good at. Unfortunately, such activities are not really suitable for a man of his refined breeding, so he has to keep a low profile when his father comes to visit.
He was introduced to the "Gentleman's Sport" of mokai fighting, and quickly became enamored with it. After watching a few fights, he started to gamble, and his keen eye enabled him to win many of his wagers. Tristan does have the bad tendency to always take wagers with long odds, though, so he loses most of his winnings.
Now that he has Roshan, he hopes to begin his own mokai kennel and create excellent fighters that can help him turn a profit.
