The Little Magician danced around the room merrily, throwing up decorations for the coming Christmas holiday. "Christmas is the time of year; for lots of fun and lots of cheer" She sang, unsure whether the song was real or something she came up with on her own. But if it was a real song, she didn't know the rest so she just decided to make it her own. "Presents, chocolate, and root beer; over ice cream..." She stopped everything, staring up at the ceiling, muttering any words she could think of to rhyme with "beer". "hear, here, cheer, year, seer, beer, dear, near - near? Yes." She continued to decorate once she got back to her song. "over ice cream far and near! Christmas is a time of fun; laughter heard from everyone; shop to shop we all will run; 'till the Christmas giving's done!" She set the wreathe on the wall and straightened out the bow. She then paused and looked around the room for a few minutes. Surely there had to be something else... Oh, yeah! She didn't put the lights up yet. She ran to the closet and started digging through supplies. "Christmas is not far away; lights, and trees, and Santa's sleigh; cookies, cakes, and milk we'll lay; out on plates for Christm-" She got cut off by a loud ring echoing from her room.

She ran as quickly as she could to her room and over to the crystal ball now floating above its stand on her desk. She generally used it for communication purposes, but this was no call. This was a divination. She hesitated to take it. She was sure it was bad news. She could feel it in the pit of her stomach. But she had to accept it. Better to know...

As she touched the transparent sphere, it began to glow, and she heard a voice begin:

"'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the towns,
not a Gaian was laughing; no singing, no sounds.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
but everyone knew Santa wouldn't be there.
The Gaians were mourning, all curled in their beds,
while sounds of the battle still rang through their heads.
As Zero sat smiling, his fingers he tapped,
and robots and guards and grinches all clapped.
For out in the towns, not a sweet went a-splatter,
and as far as they cared, not a thing was the matter.
And Santa sat sadly, another year trashed;
his sleigh wouldn't go very far 'fore it crashed.
Without any sweets, his power was low,
and without any power, his sleigh wouldn't go.
So instead he just sat there surrounded by gear
that no lovely Gaian would ever get near.
Zero's attack was so silent and quick
that from all the presents no Gaian could pick.
But maybe this Christmas need not be so lame
if maybe this vict'ry some Gaian can claim.
"

The little magician just stared at the sphere as it stopped glowing and floated back down on its stand. She always wished that the thing had a replay button. But still, she thought she had the basic idea. This 'Zero' guy was going to attack and get rid of all the sweets, and then Santa's sleigh would not be able to run, and then no Gaians would get any gifts. Christmas was going to be ruined. Unless, of course, someone could stop this madman.
Well, I'm sure someone will take care of that. She thought, glancing out the window. Suddenly her crystal ball started ringing again. She watched as it floated up into the air and began to glow.

Then it recited:

"Get off of your a**, you lazy ol' witch,
and stop being selfish; don't act like a b***h.
If everyone here was as careless as you,
my prediction before would surely be true.
You know you have magic, so magic you'll use
to fight off the robots, lest magic you'll lose.
"

At that, the little magician was left with no choice. She didn't like to fight - not even to save something else. But more than she hated to fight, she hated the idea of losing her magic. So, with the crystal ball's threat in mind, she grabbed her staff and raced out the door to kill some robots.

The Little Magician ran to the towns, and was not surprised to see the robots attacking everything. I know, she thought, I'll freeze them all. That should cover it. So she pointed her staff up into the air and blasted a blue beam, and as it came back down, the blue color spread through the air, covering everything in a sheet of ice.

Much to her dismay, however, the robots just broke through the ice like it was nothing and continued on attacking the shops. She had to do something else.

If ice didn't do any damage, she would try fire. Pointing her staff at one of the robots and focusing her thoughts on producing the flame, she shot a beam of fire.

But instead of flame, all that came out was a light heat, that had a bit of a reddish glow. Some of the ice that was left clinging to the metal of the robot melted off. She groaned. This was going to be harder than she thought...

She decided again to go with fire. Only this time, she'd have to shoot with a lot more effort. So she pointed the staff at the same robot again and put all she had into the attack, sending out a blast of flame in the robot's direction.

The staff responded to her burst of willpower and blasted fire out in the direction of the robot, not only burning that one, but also all the robots which happened to surround it. "OH, YEAH!" She shouted, pumping her staff up into the air victoriously. But her joy was short lived as all the remaining robots turned to face her...

"Oh, s**t..." She muttered, watching as they began to make thier way toward her. The girl's eyes widened. "Ohshit, ohshit, ohshit, ohshit!!" She began chanting, as though it was an incantation in itself. She fumbled with her staff for a moment in fear and pointed it at the robots. "FIRE!!!" She shouted...

As she shouted, the robots scattered around to avoid the flames that then shot from her staff. But the bright flash did provide a cover for her, which she took full advantage of by dashing under a car parked beside her. She just hoped they wouldn't see her hiding there.

The robots made their way over to the area and stopped around the car. They didn't seem to notice her there, but either way, there was no way she was going to get out at this rate. She had to find a way to clear the area. I know, I'll turn the area under their feet to quicksand. The Little Magician grinned. It wasn't the nicest way to get rid of them, but it would clear the area and make it difficult for any other robots to reach her. She slowly pointed her staff at the ground outside the perimeter of the car, focusing her thoughs on making the ground sink.

She watched as the ground slowly changed color. She'd done it! Any moment now, they were going to sink... Any moment...

She watched as the robots continued standing easily on the now tan asphalt. Why weren't they sinking? She didn't know, but one of them noticed the change in the color of the ground and started kneeling down to look under the car.
She thought frantically.

She didn't know if her spell failed or if the robots were simply so light that they didn't sink. But if her spell worked, she wouldn't be able to flee that way. Whatever the case, she couldn't flee anywhere with this car surrounded. She would have to blast one. Might as well be the one that was about to catch her. She scurried to her knees and elbows and crouched down, pointed her staff at the robot as its head appeared in her line of sight. "FIRE!!"

The blast worked. As the beam took out the robot staring at her, she turned the staff to point at the feet of the others nearby. The heat quickly melted one of them as well. Only a few left, and it wouldn't be long before they were under the car with her. She reached her hand out, praying that the ground was solid.

It was! And as the robots dived under the car to grab her, she slid out onto the tanned asphalt. She quickly whipped around to face the car and, running backwards, she pointed her staff at the car and shouted, "FIRE!"

Sure enough, the blast shot out of the staff and exploded the last of the robots, along with the car, to bits. Her eyes widened. "Ooops..." She mumbled. Wondering whose car it was, and hoping that whoever owned it wouldn't see her, she quickly thought of her room and teleported back to her house.

When she got to her room, she sighed and leaned back against the wall. She had done it! She had saved Christmas for all of Gaia. No one would know it, but hey - at least she got to keep her magic. But her relief didn't last long before she heard the ringing of her crystal ball again. She looked over at her desk in disdain as the device lit up and began to rise. She reached out and poked it, accepting the message.

Little Magician, did you really think your work would be done so soon? And so easily? If that was the only problem, anyone could have done it and YOU wouldn't have been called.

The Little Magician stared at the crystal ball in irritation.
"Well then why don't you get someone else?" She retorted, crossing her arms.

First smashing and crashing from robotic men,
then poor living corpses this madman will send.
To the edge of the towns, till each one does fall,
Now dash away, smash away, or I'll snatch away all.

The ball floated back down to the table, still once more. The Little magician sighed. Still clutching her staff, she made her way outside and back to the towns.

It wasn't long before she saw them - zombies everywhere - pissed off and consuming every sweet in sight - along with a few brains, mostly of bakers... This was getting ridiculous. But, she pointed her staff at them all the same, and willed for fire to flood over them, killing every one it could reach.

Unfortunately for her, the fire didn't reach any one. The beam was fragile and dissipated a few inches in front of her. And the amount of fire that shot out was about the equivalent of your average lighter. The zombies didn't even notice the flicker and just kept right on munching.

The Little Magician pouted. Of course she couldn't do damage on her first attack. She looked at her staff in irritation. Why was she such a useless magician? Oh, well. She pointed the staff up into the air. Maybe lightning. She thought, as she began to will a strong beam to be produced this time - she really couldn't afford for it to be weak - these guys might actually fight back...

As she saw the spark begin in the sky, she swung her staff down to point at a group of zombies and... nothing happened. She looked at the staff confused and glanced up at the sky. Seeing nothing, she stared down at her staff and huffed.

Her stare quickly turned to a glare at her staff. "Useless..." She muttered. "Useless, useless, useless, useless" She began chanting, banging her hand against the staff, getting angrier and angrier. Suddenly, a small shock came through the staff and into her, making her freeze for a moment. She glared at the staff, trembling from anger at her failure. "Completely Useless!" She shouted, swinging the staff full-force in the direction of the zombies.

Suddenly, a blade of force shot through the staff and forward toward the zombie. It amlost missed entirely, but one of the zombies on the very edge of the swipe was sliced in half, while the rest of the damage was wasted on the ground. "Oh, NOW you ********' work!" Sheshouted at the staff in aggravation. Of course, all the remaining zombies who had seen their comerade get sliced in half turned to look at her. She looked up at them slowly. "Oh, god dammit..." She muttered as they started slowly making their way toward her.

The little Magician began to back up. Ok, Gotta get rid of these guys. And fast. She mentally commanded herself. She pointed her staff at the approaching crowd. "Population control!" She shouted, swinging her staff at about the level of their midriffs, praying for a blast of force to come out and back up her words.

But, of course, that was too much for her to hope for. She stared at the still approaching, unharmed army of zombies. She heard a small snicker in the background. She glared in that direction, but saw no one. "Yeah, well, you come out and try this, huh?" She said to whoever spoke. She acknowledged that she could very well be talking to her own paranoia, and maybe no one made any sound at all. But she didn't care too much - she talked to herself when she knew it was herself; so why should it matter? She turned back to face the hoarde of zombies.

The Little Magician looked down at her staff and sighed. "Look," she addressed her staff, "I don't want Christmas to go down the drain again. And I know you don't want Christmas to be wasted either. So why don't you just kinda work with me here, ok? Because I don't want to lose you, and I'm sure as heck not gonna die out here trying to kill these things. So, what do you say?" There was only the silence and the groaning of the zombies to answer her. But still, she looked up at the zombies, brows furrowed into her battle face, which looked more like a pout than something meant to intimidate the enemy. "Let's kill some zombies! FIRE!" She shouted, pointing her staff at the now fairly close group of zombies.

A cloud of flame puffed out of the end of the staff before instantly going out. The pep talk had done little, if anything at all. She looked to see the damage done to the zombies, only to find that they were all unharmed - in fact, nothing was even singed. The flame hadn't gone far enough forward to even hit the things. She looked down at her staff, irritated. "Thanks a lot..." She murmmered to the staff. Then she started moving backwards at a fast walk to put some more distance between herself and the zombies. At least they're slow little monsters... She thought as she quickly put ground between them. She glanced back behind her. But I will eventually run out of places to back up to if I can't do some damage...
