The Voyager 1 Space Probe that has been traveling through our solar system for the past 34 years has finally reached the edge of the Heliosphere of our Sun. It is predicted to reach interstellar space sometime within the next few years, or maybe even as little as the next few months.

So, now we know it takes approx 34 years to reach the edge of the solar system. Because the Heliosphere extends WAAAY beyond Pluto, right? (actually, I didn't know it was as far as they pictured it)
All I can say is that they're using some really powerful technology, or really good educated guesses to know where the Voyager is o.o I thought that eventually it would lose some kind of signal..

Approximately, it's hard to tell exactly where it ends. It may take another couple of years for Voyager 1 to totally leave it. Of course if the theoretical Oort Cloud exists then we're not even close to the edge of the solar system. Scary, no?
Yes the Heliosphere is way beyond the orbits of Neptune/Pluto. The easiest way to understand where it is is by looking at this picture.
The way NASA communicated with Voyager is with radio signal, along with some totally amazing technology. emotion_kirakira I'm sure a quick google search will reveal all you're curious about. cat_xd
