Rick Perry may not be ashamed to admit he's a Christian, but he sure is making me ashamed. Where is the line drawn between having a moral opinion that may or may not be influenced by your religion, and outright religious fundamentalism? As a politician, where is the line between religious politician and borderline theocrat?

The line might be thin, but it's been crossed. Disturbingly so. Far as I can tell, with a few isolated incidents (that keep getting repeated) no child has been barred from praying in school OUTSIDE OF STRUCTURED SCHOOL TIME. Also, every school celebrates Christmas. Period. The word Christmas is often used, but if not, does it change anything?

i cant stand perry. he doesnt seem to be able to get it through his empty head that not everyone in the country is a christian. i wasnt a big bush fan either but at least he knew when to shut up and let d**k or someone else do the talking

no matter what we do though at some point that line will be crossed, perry seems to want to take it way too far though. but we all believe different things and those beliefs keep us from doing some things and make us want to do others. at the end of the day we are all just human and all we can do is try our hardest to be fair to each other

at my old highschool i was about to graduate around the time when the staff decided to get politicly correct. we werent allowed to say merry christmas anymore, it had to be happy holidays. it was pretty annoying. even going to public school i had god and christ shoved at me. half of my history class was learning about the timeline of christ and the bible. at the time i didnt believe in christ so i found it a bit offending that that was what most of the class was about

When a political leader imposes a debatable religious restriction on an entire population many of which don't practice the same religion, what benefit does it serve? Does it make those who practice this religion follow this restriction any more? Does not having this restriction follow it any less. If anything it seems like Mr. Perry and others like him don't have enough faith and want public affirmation of his beliefs in order to fill that void in their faith.

Don't even get me started on the "War on Christmas" bullshit.

The "extremists" on either side of this argument are really annoying. The hardcore atheists from that group in Texas are just as bad, in my opinion, as the Christians who get mad at you for saying Happy Holidays or wishing a Jewish person a Happy Hanekuh. Recently, the poinsetta has come under attack by that atheist group.

extremist on both sides are just the same. They pick and choose which information works for them and ignore anything that disagrees with their views. What's even sadder, they both need each other to even exist because if they didn't have that other side to fuel them, their would be nothing to burn and no one would pay attention to them.
