Gabbie fluttered and swooped around the rooftops of Katarina. Free, finally free! No more trainer, no more owner, no more anyone telling him where to go or what to do. Anise had been nice, sure, but it wasn't the same as being freee! Now he could go anywhere and do anything, and nothing was tying him down! He chirped and flew loops in the air as he reveled in the freedom.
Then his stomach rumbled and he was reminded that there was one definite benefit of someone taking care of you: you always had food. But he'd found food well enough when the fog was around and the humans went missing, so he could do it again. He looked around the city below him and spotted something glinting in the sunlight below. Was that food? Humans sometimes got food wrapped in shiny paper. He swooped down and landed on the concrete sidewalk to look at the thing.
It wasn't shiny paper, and it wasn't any food he recognized. It was shiny silver, round and flat a bit like a cracker but it looked like metal. He cocked his head curiously as he studied it. Maybe it could be eaten anyway? He carefully leaned down his head and pecked at it lightly to see what would happen.

A shrill chirp signaled Chirper's arrival. He swooped down as well and forcefully slammed his foot on the coin as if to claim 'MINE.' His other foot was occupied carrying a small satchel of other goods - probably other shinies that he had picked up.
Chirper leaned in towards Gabbie aggressively, eyes squinted. "This is my territory, my shiny!" chirped the swablu who stretched his wings on the last part to make himself look more intimidating.

Gabbie squawked in surprise, then hopped backwards a step or two while staring at the Swablu with wide eyes. "Sorry, I didn't know that was yours," he chirped. "I thought it might be food. I'm just hungry," he added, rustling his wings uneasily. This showed he was still a little thin and bedraggled due to foraging for himself all that time the humans were missing.
Then Gabbie blinked as he got a good look at the bird. He was yellow, which he had an idea wasn't usual for a Swablu. Halcyon was blue, after all. But the Swablu was also wearing a hat, on that was even sized to fit him perfectly. Hats and clothes were usually human things. But the Swablu said it was his territory. Wouldn't that mean he was wild? He was so puzzled by this that he just stared for a moment.
