Point is, the Death Penalty has no purpose, outside of bloodlust. The only areas where it could be implemented effectively to discourage people would be cases like I mentioned. Referred to as "Thinking Man's Crimes". These are the people who could be dissuaded by the consequences. They have a lot more to lose.
I would like to comment on this. I have been watching a lot of Lock Up on MSNBC since June and most of the people on DeathRow from what I can tell of that show, murdered people while in an emotional breakdown or while intoxicated. Crimes of Passion is the terminology for the first example. Meaning, these people were barely capable of rational thought, but by the time the trial came, they were mentally capable enough to get the Death Penalty.
