Selene is a weyrbrat. Her mother was a kitchen drudge she has only heard stories of her father, the rider of a Silver, was hard working and a good man. At an early age her mother explained the workings of the weyr and why the riders rarely had babies. At first she didn’t really understand why it wasn’t advised. She finally understood after witnessing the chaos that occurred during Threadfall, all of the riders had to be able to go and defend the Weyr and its Holds. The female riders who were pregnant were not able to do their jobs and fight with the other riders. When she came of age to be a Candidate she decided at that moment to keep trying until she aged out. After being passed over the past six years, doubt has started to settle in, but she still clings to the hope of becoming a rider. If the time comes that she ages out she will then decide what to do with her life. She has thoughts of possibly joining the Healers craft having an interest in the art.
Description:
Selene is a rather tall woman standing at 5'9" and has a slim build just under average. Her hair is red and cropped short; she normally doesn't bother in the style, and merely brushes her hands through her hair leaving it in a wild array on her head. Her eyes are a green hazel framed by long eyelashes. She has a light tan on formerly fair skin from her time living in the weyr.
Personality:
She is a fairly open-minded person towards the child birth aspects of the weyr. She understands the needs of a bonded's dragon come first and that having a child wouldn't necessarily be in the child or the parents’ best interest. This has its drawbacks when she runs into people who do not view abortion as she does. When met with these walls she will try to explain the reasonings behind the practice and keep trying to make them see her point of view. When it comes to romance she doesn't see much of a point in being too emotionally invested in another person, especially if she gets a dragon and goes into Flight. When in groups she is a very out-going person always laughing and eager to have fun. However she does know when to be serious and works hard to complete her chores.
