Name: Vincent Keith Baker

Codename: None as of yet.

Age: 22

Power:Vince has the power of telepathy and technopathy allowing him to communicate mentally with both biological organisms and machines. Like most telepaths mental manipulation is his specialty; however currently his powers are limited to telepathic communication and location while others such as psionic shockwaves and mind control are outside his abilities and are in development. Vince’s technopathy is synchronized with his telepathy, so whatever he is able to people and animals he is able to do to machines. Depending on the complexity of the mind of the person or machine they are able to resist him.

Bio: Vince is an adopted child, who was taken into foster care when he was a baby. He never knew who his real parents were and never bothered to find out since he was very happy with his adoptive parents. His hometown is Seattle Washington, but came to the East coast for college where he attended New York University.

Vince’s college education started out like everyone else’s until his powers started to kick in. Unwillingly during a finals exam Vince’s telepathy activated causing him to pick up the thoughts of his professors and fellow students. This caused Vince’s test answers to be like some those sitting near him and as a result of this Vince was called out on a breach of the rules of academic integrity and was kicked out of the school. According to Vince's parents he is still in NYU because he did not have the heart to tell them that he got kicked out

Once he was kicked out of NYU Vince moved to Salem Center where the Xavier Institute is located working odd jobs, getting by and struggling to control his powers. It was during his jobs as a sales assistant that he discovered his second ability of technopathy. Things went well for a while and he was doing well at fixing computers, until an involuntary psionic wave erupted from him causing everything to short circuit. He was then fired.

After losing his job Vince was in desperate need of money and decided to use his powers in an underground gambling ring, which got him into a lot of trouble and almost found out. Deciding to keep a low profile Vince took a job as a delivery boy. Every day on his way to work Vince passes by the institute and senses the powers of other mutants.

The following is a fictional account:

Vince closed his eyes.
“I can’t…my powers aren’t strong enough,” he said upon meeting severe resistance from the unconscious figure before him.

He looked up at the doctor shaking his head. Even though Vince has been a telepath only for a few months he’s already showing promise. However even in his limited experience he had never met a mutant with such strong mental blocks. He suspected the mutant before him, the red haired woman, might also possess psionic abilities which could be the source of the resistance. Vince reclined in his chair uneasily as he studied the figure laying in the hospital bed. The setting sun colored her otherwise very pale cheeks. ‘Who was this woman?’ Vince thought, his curiosity perking and more importantly ‘what do these people want with her?”.

“Thank you Mr. Baker, that will be enough,” the man in white said making a note on his clipboard, “we will no longer require your services.” Vince nodded picking up his backpack leaning against the bedside table. Hesitantly he asked, “Am I still going to get paid?”

There was a pause. The man adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat.

“We haven’t seen any results today, and your attempts have not guaranteed any indication of success so I cannot assure you of payment.”
‘s**t’ Vince thought, this was going to be one of those nights again. A part of him dearly wanted to protest, after all he had worked very hard on trying to get the patient to wake and he suspected that the doctor knew the difficulties of being a telepath. Rather than saying anything Vince left. Payment was one thing but his safety was another. He didn't trust these people whoever they are.
