This Market Street is where you come to satisfy all your shopping needs and necessities. The art of trade is also practiced here.

Elizibeth came into sight of the marketplace. Rattling in her pocket were a few coins that she was going to buy vegetables with. Yesterday she was at the hob selling three Squirrels that she trapped and they weren't awful sizes so she got a pretty good amount of coins for them. So here she is coming to the Marketplace because yesterday she promised herself she would have a nice meal for a change,Soup to be exact. She looked around to see witch places were selling what, then spotted the perfect carrots for my soup but then saw who was selling them and decided to try the other side of the Marketplace. She said to herself "That person never has food well priced. The most I could probably buy is one carrot."Elizibeth took a breath as she walked down the Marketplace a little farther.

When she got to a booth, she saw some carrots and celery. They were a little wilted so she was going to turn around and find some other person to sell them to her. When the lady working at the booth asked her what she wanted to buy, and since she said it so nicely, she decided to buy something."Okay, can I take the celery and carrots?"

The lady answered."Yes for 9 coins." She looked at her. Those were all her coins. The lady notices her face."Okay, I'll add in a quarter cup of noodles if you buy them for that much, they'd be half price."

Elizibeth looked at her and then sighed. She was getting hungry."Okay I'll take them." She said, putting her coins on the booth and received the food. She walked back to her home.

Thackery never shopped, he hated shopping, hunting was easier, and didn't waste coins. He would have to put up with it though, he was sore as hell. Luckily he almost always carried the larger pert of the household funds on him, mostly to make sure his mother didn't bored some train, as much as he would love to ditch her, she wouldn't make it, and his conscious couldn't take it. He looked around, it wasn't so busy with it being so late, that was good, haggling would be easier with less competition. He turned to Joey with a weak half smile, and with a sigh he asked, "So, where should start?"

Johanna followed Thackery to the nearly empty marketplace, seeing only a few shady characters. She stayed close to him and snuggled into his jacket to break to cold air blowing through the ghost town. She heard his question and shrugged. "It doesn't really matter to me. It's your food." she smiled. Johanna brought the jacket up to her face to warm her chilled nose and inhaled, covering her smile. She knew that he was self-conscious of his smell, but he had no reason to be. Johanna liked the way he smelled, it was kind of rugged and manly. Thackery had a warm and safe smell, which was how he made her feel. Her dad always told her that you can always tell what kind of a person someone is by the way they smell, shoot even what job they have. That's one of his quirky philosophies; the nose knows. "You stink really good." she said to him. "So you can stop worrying about how you smell, I like it." She looked at him matter-of-factly, a smile crossing her lips.

Johanna hugged her arms to her body as another chilling breeze drifted by. She could faintly see the sun drift slowly behind the mountains through the thick, over-cast fog that always lingered in District twelve, and it was getting dark. "So what do you plan on getting?" she asked, a little hastily. The mining district was already a haven for shady characters and poor, desperate people during the day, and it was even more dangerous at night. Not to mention the wolves and mountain lions, among other forest beasts. Johanna continued walking on the dirt pathway that traveled through the marketplace, and the rest of the district, when she remembered something. Her dad had left this morning to go to the capitol. He didn't specify why, only that he would be gone for a few days, and told her jokingly to not drink or have any boys over, like he always did before leaving her home alone for a few days. But she was going to break one of those promises she always kept when her dad was away. "Do you want to stay at my house tonight?" she asked. Johanna knew that Thackery's mom was less than pleasant, which made her hope that it was a good reason for him to say yes. She hated, absolutely hated being home alone. What if a wild animal came into the house? Or a mad man broke in and tried to kill her, or worse? Johanna has watched too many scary movies, which made her a tiny bit paranoid and afraid of the dark. She always left every single light on in the house at night, which of course drove her dad crazy. 'I can't wait until you have to start paying bills.' and all that. And Thackery made her feel safe, so why not have him over? Ya know, to protect her from all the monsters lurking in the dark....

Thackery nodded, "Yeah I just don't shop, I'm not good at it," he said plainly, glancing over a vegi stand, they were all pour quality, a rare find. He started to sort through them, then he spotted the price, ouch. This was one thing he liked about hunting for everything, they had extra money for overpriced carrots. He was shocked at Joey's next comment, at first he thought she was complaining about his smell, but then he realized what she was actually saying it was infinitely more embarrassing. He looked over at her in a are-you-serious sort of way, and was met with a look that shut him up. Whatever contradicting thing he was going to shoot back was swallowed down as a chuckled escaped his lips. Joey would be the one to like his smell, "Only you Joe," he said turning with a genuine smile.

The breeze felt so good after all day in the hot humid mines, he sighed as he moved on to the next stand, half of the produces was well past rotten. He pondered buying a questionable bunch, but set them down as he answered, "Oh well I'm sort of just browsing for vegetables, what I really need is meat. We went through m last catch so fast," he said very quietly as he led her on. The Peacekeepers had ears everywhere, at least that's what someone as paranoid as him thought. He spotted a meat vendor, but before he could even move towards it, he was stopped in his tracks. If he was a chick he would have blushed, but he was a man, and a man just got red in the face. He was silent for a moment at a loss for words, "Dahhh," oh so very smooth, "Um, I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind getting the house to herself," she might even smile at him for once, "sure if your dad wouldn't mind." He knew he shouldn't read anything into this, it was just a friendly gesture, but he wanted to so he did anyway. It's not like he was one to act on things like that.

Johanna looked at all the poor vegetables that Thackery was considering, with a scrunched up nose. Did these people actually eat this stuff? Johanna and her father were fortunate enough to get the vegetables and fruit that her grandma grew in her own garden, but they bought the meat in the market. The fruits and veggies that were displayed were usually in better condition than this, but today's was less than something to be proud of. Hearing him talk about the animals that he's killed made her frown inside. She hated that he hunted. One of the reasons was the poor little animals that he was murdering; she didn't like the idea of Thackery killing bunny rabbits and cute little deer. And on the other hand, what if he got caught? Hunting was highly illegal in the district, and thinking of him getting thrown into jail or worse was something she couldn't handle. Her dad hunted too for a long time before Johanna finally convinced him to buy the meat instead. She said that she was already motherless and she didn't need to be without a father too, and that's what made him stop.

Her eyes fell on his face, a smile creeping upon her own as she saw his reaction. "Your face is all red." she bit her tongue playfully, the smile remaining as she patted his warm cheeks. After a few seconds she was done teasing him, for now, and thought for a second. "Well my dad is going to be gone for a few days. That's why I was asking if you wanted to come over." did that sound suggestive? Yes. But did she care too much? Not really. There wasn't really any better way to say it, and she figured that if she tried defending her motives he would just have more reason to poke fun at what what she had said. So if she just left it as it was she hoped that it would leave her less vulnerable to her teasing.

She followed closely as they walked through the marketplace and wondered how he could be so unaffected by the night time, and the people in it. Being out at night with Thackery she felt fine, but was definitely aware of her surroundings. If she was by herself, she would be totally rigid. Paranoia was one thing she 'inherited' from her father, who always wedged a chair underneath the front door at night and closed all the curtains, He said it comes from being a dad. He's not scared for himself, but for Johanna. She liked to think that her dad was a little bit scared for himself, but she knew that wasn't true. "How are you not scared right now?" she asked him, inching a bit closer as the sun inched down, farther out of sight. It was more of a rhetorical question, but she would love to hear an explanation.

Thackery's face got more red and his smile turned to a scowl she patted his cheek, and each pat just darkened the shade. He chuckled sarcastically and shifted his gaze, he was an idiot. He pretended to be distracted until he felt his color return to normal. When he heard her explanation, he for some reason felt infinitely more at ease, he smiled at her. He knew her father loved her so he really didn't worry about the why, "What are you afraid of a little bump in the night?" he asked jokingly. He supposed he couldn't assume anymore, no invitations here, just someone who didn't want to be alone. He was stupid for thinking otherwise.

He walked on, finally coming across a stand that looked promising, he examined the meat, they weren't fresh. That's what he got for coming at the end of the day, everything was picked over. He finally made a decision, and the merchant wrapped his choice up in paper. It was a meager serving, hardly enough for two on a bad day, but he handed over the coins. He scowled at the pitiful lump in his hand, he would never rely on this place for food. His pouting was interrupted by an unexpected question, he turned and noticed how closely she was standing. His sour expression softened as he realized he had dragged her out in the middle of the evening. He hadn't even realized, he was never concerned going out at night, and since Joe was with him he knew she was fine. He watched the ground pass by, trying to put it into words. He smirked, "Well, I don't know," he looked at her, "I mean I'm kinda bad a** so I guess I just don't sweat it, honestly I freak out more when I'm not there because then there's nothing I can do," he said a bit wistfully.

He gestured behind them, "Why don't we get going, I'm starting to get cold," no he wasn't, "so you must be freezing." In truth he just felt like an a** for dragging her out here for no reason.

Johanna saw his smile turn sour and she sighed a tiny bit. She keeps forgetting that he takes absolutely EVERYTHING seriously, and has too much pride to accept a little friendly teasing. "Oh my goodness." she said with a smile on her face. "You don't have to take everything so seriously." she nudged his shoulder with her fist then looked at the ground as they walked in silence for a moment. The air was getting even colder than usual so Johanna took off his jacket and put it back on the right way, wrapping it around her for maximum warmth. She couldn't wait to get into her warm house and get the fireplace going. She smiled and looked at him as he spoke, almost wondering why he could poke fun at her but she not be allowed to do the same. "As a matter of fact. Yes." she said, deflecting his tease. "I need a big strong man such as your strapping, young self to protect little ol' me for the monsters under my bed." she said playfully, her eyes then narrowing slightly. "Why? What were you expecting?" she laughed quietly and covered her face with the sleeves to warm her face. "Oops. Sorry, I forgot I wasn't allowed to tease you." she teased.

She looked at the little piece of meat, actually hoping he hadn't bought it. "Is that supposed to feed both you and your mom?" she asked still looking at it. It was hardly big enough to feed just Thackery, let alone two people. Her rhetorical question was interrupted by his response to her asking him if he was scared. Laughter escaped her lips and she shook her head, "You're so modest."
