Karrie stood just outside the train station on the platform, awaiting her Tributes with agitated glances at the crowd that had gathered. Apparently they wanted to see the Tributes well off, but Karrie thought that they wanted to get one last glimpse of the children they knew as friends before the two died in the Games. Not that Karrie thought they would die, or at least she hoped not, but that was probably what the people of the District thought. Who really had faith in those from District 11 or District 12? Very, very few. After all, Karrie's district hadn't been victorious in years. In fact, she was the last one who had managed to win, and none others had even come close. Ok, halfway close, but never actually close. The woman tilted her head to the side ever so slightly when she heard the train approaching, wondering how long it would take the children to arrive. One of the Victor's biggest pet peeves was tardiness.

With a sigh Karrie thought about her daughter, hoping that Vienna would be okay without her. Karrie had wanted to ask if her daughter would like to accompany her, but the Victor wasn't sure if the Capitol was a good place for little Vi to be. The influences there wouldn't be good on Vienna, and the things that the girl saw may bother her. Karrie thought that, if Vi asked, she would send for her during the Games, but at the moment she wouldn't bring her along. Besides, she had to focus her attention on keeping these two Tributes alive. You know, if they would ever even arrive. So Karrie just stood there, arms crossed over her chest, and waited, ignoring the frantic questions from the friends and families of the Tributes. They would learn all they needed to know soon enough. Whether they were told or not.

Bentley Marioth | District 11

I open the door and sure enough, two more peacekeepers await me. The adjust themselves so that one is to the left of me and one is to the right of me and begin to walk across the dusty road. "That's the train station. That's where you will be getting on to go to the Capitol," says the guard to the right of me. The talking and yelling continues, but is now louder. It's not doubt coming from the station, and I assured of such when one of the peacekeepers opens the door to the station. 100's of people shoot their heads over at me as the peacekeepers clear a path for me to walk. I'm not sure if it's noticeable that I've been crying, as I stand motionless, looking around at everyone. Then I remember. Be strong. Stay strong. Look strong. I shake my head, and put on a more confident face. I puff my chest out and straighten up my posture.
I begin to start walking to the station platform from while people pat me on the back as I walk by. I can't tell what their doing. Are they patting me as a tool of comfort? Or are they pushing me to my death... I make eye-contact with Tenzil and Banner, but only for a second as I must continue to walk.
Karrie Arrowpoint! You're male tribute is here! hollers one of the peacekeepers as I make my way onto the station platform.

Venus wasn't too long after Bentley when she opened the door again and stepped out to the street. Only one person had really had time to come in and say good bye to her. And she could honestly say, there hadn't been such a tense moment between her and her father in years. The only thing to come close was a month or so earlier when she had told him about her shoulder injury. Which she was thankful it was now mostly healed. Just a bit sore from time to time. Nothing she couldn't handle. They had sat in silence, Venus watching Rozin and Rozin looking at his hands. She couldn't tell if he was trying not to cry or not to blow up yelling at her. Either were very possible, and likely. At the last minute before the peacekeepers had come in to take her away, they'd both stood and hugged for a good minute. Venus had felt a couple tears drip down onto her back. Then her father had been pulled away from her and she watched as the doors closed between them. Her uncaring expression was no different than normal. Except a bit grimmer. Now her march to the preparation of her death. Venus turned around to walk out the other door and followed the peacekeepers to the train station. She spotted Bentley several yards ahead to the platform and she followed suit.

Venus heard shouts of encouragement and 'Good luck' and knew most weren't directly at her. Probably to Bentley or both of them as a team. Ahead on the platform she saw their mentor, Karrie Arrowpoint, looking rather impatient. What? Was she really so eager to send them to their death? Or did she just want to get away and talk to them to start their training? She figured, and partially hoped the latter. Having a mentor that hated you, wouldn't get you too far into the games. If into the games at all really.

When Venus reached the platform, the peacekeeper beside her opened his mouth to add onto the other's statement. But Venus beat him to it.
"As is your female tribute." Venus paused a few steps down and looked up at Karrie. Then over to the train that would take them to the Capitol. Looked pretty fast. No doubt it was. She wondered just how fast. Then she glanced at her fellow tribute once more. She noticed a slight redness at the corners of his eyes. He'd been crying. Venus' expression softened a bit and she stepped up the last couple of stairs to stand behind/beside Bentley. She put her hand on his shoulder gently and looked over at him "It's going to be fine." Then let her hand drop and looked back at Karrie, her expression relaxed once more. "So, this our grand parting then?" She asked the woman, gesturing to the train.

Karrie watched the boy Tribute step out of the building followed closely by two Peacekeepers. The Victor examined him closely, watching as he puffed out his chest and forced himself to look confident. Karrie nodded once, satisfied with his short performance, even though his eyes were still a bit red. When the Peacekeeper announced their presence Karrie gave the man a withering look, raising one straight eyebrow, "Thank you so much for making that clear." Her soft, firm voice dripped with sarcasm and she stared back at the Peacekeeper, hardly phased by his scowl. For a long, tense moment the two stared at one another, then the door to the station opened again and the female Tribute stepped through the door. The next Peacekeeper, though was stopped by the girl's voice. Karrie felt her respect for the girl rise a notch, from absolute zero to about five. Yes, not only was she slow to trust, but also slow to respect. She would do everything in her power to keep these two alive, but that was no guarantee that she would become close to them. It was easier to keep herself at a distance.

Karrie let the two have their little moment, then she nodded at the girl's question, "If you want to call it that." She stepped to the side and ushered the two into the train, ignoring the Peacekeepers that pressed their hands into her back as if to shove her in. Then the door slid closed, and the train started up. There was one minute when the train just sat there, allowing its occupants to give one final wave to their friends and families. While the children were saying their final goodbyes, Karrie went and stood near the door at the other end of the car, waiting for the two. While they were occupied Karrie looked up and out of the window next to her, gazing up at the sky in a thoughtful manner. When the train finally began to move, Karrie said in that same soft, firm voice, "My name is Karrie Arrowpoint, as I'm sure you know. And you two?" As way of introductions, that was as far as she went. She truly had nothing more to say, for the moment. Not until she began to teach them the things they needed to know.

Bentley Marioth | District 11

That hand on my shoulder... I'm one of those guys who doesn't usually act all tough. I'm a guy with actual emotions and nothing feels better than being comforted, and that's what she did. I turn my head to her and put a smile on my face. "Thank you." I can't afford to think that I'm going into the arena to die now. This is where I need to stop acting confident and strong, to actually become confident and strong. It's looking like I have a person that I can work with. Still not sure though as it's only been a few minutes. "This is it." I say. Venus looks over at me. "You're a smart young lady, and I'm sure you could see through my... well, act. But now it's time for us to notice that if we don't think we're going to win, we won't win." I add. Karrie, our mentor, is looking over, probably listening to what I'm saying. "We need to trust each other. It's going to be hard at first considering we don't know each other that well, but it will help both of us. Trust each other with your emotions, actions, and words. At all times." I pause. "I hope that you don't take advantage of this. But I trust you."
