I don't know if things have changed or not now but if you're buying with gold, about a week before they're due to leave the shop.
If you're buying with GC, buy an Advance Chance, sell it on opening day and THEN buy it back a week before they're due to leave.
Also, rule of thumb is to sell as singles and buy as bundles, since 9 singles are usually more expensive than 1 bundle.
