The Bizzaro Football season continues on, and is far from over.
1. Revenge of the NFC 'Worst'- Last week during my mid season grades I tore up the NFC west, claiming that with exception to the 49ers this division is even worse than it was a year before. Someone must have read my post and spread the word, because every team in the West came out firing and winning. The Rams escape a close one for their second win after a botched field goal by the Browns late in the 4th led to a 13-12 win. the Cardinals trailed the Eagles til 2 minutes remaining when they got their first lead and won 17-14, the Seahawks took it to the AFC North leading Ravens with a 22-17 win at home, and the 49ers, as if they've already had plenty of defining games to prove themselves, got another big win against NFC East leading New York Giants 27-20. I still think this is the worst division in the league, but this week the West showed they had something to prove and if they all continue to play like this, then maybe the division as a whole will finish with some respectability for a change.
2. Rex Ryan eats his words- At the beginning of the regular season, Rex Ryan posted a challenge to the rest of the league to step up and beat the Patriots. Well his challenge was met as the Bills, Steelers, and Giants have taken the Patriots down a notch. All the Jets needed to do was beat the 'Wounded Duck' Patriots at home, where they beat them last season, and they would be in first in their division. Instead the Patriots improve to 6-3, lead the East, and the Jets have allowed themselves to get swept by their rival. I've questioned Joe Flacco and Mark Sanchez in the past, this week I continue to criticize them both and wonder if either have what it takes to be legitimate starters in this league. Well Rex, you might want to take a good look at QB's in the draft, and/or see who ends up in free agency, cause in his third year, Sanchez isn't playing like the franchise QB you envisioned.
3. Wake up call for Bills and Lions- Early on in the season the Bills and Lions were the talk of the NFL, getting off to great starts and making some of us feel like they could be finally turning that corner and becoming contenders in this league. Both franchises have been brought back down to earth. After a 5-0 start the Lions have dropped 3 of 4 in the past 5 weeks. Stafford threw 63 times today! Teams are finding out, take Calvin Johnson out, Lions offense struggle. And for the Bills, They started the season as the highest scoring team and had a 3-0 record. They have also dropped 3 of their last 4 in the past 5 weeks, and have sunk to 5-4, currently third in the AFC East due to tie breakers. Don't get me wrong, their great starts and play have given fans a legitimate reason to get excited and have hope, but now we see that these are two very young teams still, and it will take a while before either of them will make a legitimate push for contention. The Lions still have the potential to make a playoff run. The Bills? They are still very much alive and capable of making a run, but my faith in them is waning quickly.
SHOUT OUT PLAYERS!!
Tony Romo (QB Dallas Cowboys) 23 of 26 passes for 270 yards and three TD. But more impressive, his QB rating on the day was thee second highest QB rating by a quarterback in a game this season! Though we won't know til the playoffs if he can get over his choking problem, but in the regular season, he's been phenominal.
Reggie Bush (RB Miami Dolphins) Rushing wise he only had 47 yards on 14 carries, but he still had two TD, but most importantly, have his, "We stink" comment about the Dolphins a few weeks back, many questioned if his comments were appropriate. Well his words have motivated the Dolphins to two straight wins after starting 0-7. No doubt his words had more impact in jumpstarting this Dolphins team than is actions, but the combination of the two deserves a player shout out!

So much has happened since I've made this post that I feel a follow up is in order.
First, as a side note to follow up the "Revenge of the NFC Worst" topic, turns out that since the NFL realignment, this is the first time all 4 NFC west teams won on the same week! But overall its seems it's too little too late for the rest of the West to really stay competitive in the division race, as most people are already proclaming the 49ers the division champs. But the sad truth is, even after the Seahawks, Rams and Cardinals won their respective games, the 49ers can still wrap up their division by Thanksgiving night.
2. On Monday it has been announced that Texans QB Matt Schaub, and Chiefs QB Matt Cassel have sustained injuries that will sideline them both. Schaub suffered a foot injury on Sunday which Texans say will end his season. Fortunately for Houston they have a bye this coming week end, and can give back up Matt Leinart, (Lots of QB's named Matt these days) a chance to get reps and prepare for their divisional game in two weeks against Jacksonville. It is disappointing that the year the Texans finally look like playoff contenders and favorites to win their division, they suffer these unfortunate injuries. Overall the Texans have a comforitable lead over the Titans for first in the AFC South, and have done well adapting and winning despite constant injuries to key players. And fortunately for Leinart, the Texans are expecting to have Andre Johnson back in the starting line up against the Jaguars.
For the Chiefs, Matt Cassel suffered a Hand injury which could potentially end his season. Though the Chiefs are 4-5 they are still second in the AFC West and only one game behind Oakland for first. Back up QB Tyler Palko will step in and try to lead KC to their second straight division title. Unlike the Texans who have shown resiliency and keep winning despite their losses, the Chiefs need all the help they can get and cannot afford to loose these key players at such a critical moment. Palko however is ready for the challenge and wants to prove himself.
3. Cheerleader gets souvenir from BF- After scoring the Bills lone Touchdown in a 44-7 blow out against the Cowboys, Receiver David Nelson decided to give a huge hug to his girlfriend and give her the TD football. Just one problem, his girlfriend is a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. For me, I have no problem with this. I didn't think it was disrespectful, I actually thought it was cute to see the Bills WR celebrating with his Cowboys cheerleader Girlfriend. But seems like many are shaming Nelson for this act and criticizing him for it. Lighten up people. It's not like they started making out on television, They didn't even kiss, (helmets face mask got in the way) We all know they are dating... at least now we do, Let them have this moment, especially since it will be another 4 years before the Bills play the Cowboys in the regular season again. People need to relax on this matter. Regardless of what everyone else says, I have no problem with your actions David. If my GF was a cheerleader on the opposing team and I scored a TD, I probably would have done the same.
