So, I've decided to make a wand for myself to use in rituals. I've already decided what wood to use--I have several giant rosemary shrubs in my backyard, and many of the branches are easily long, straight, and thick enough to make a good wand.

It's a bit unconventional, but its my wand, and rosemary is sacred to Freya, my patron goddess. Also, I helped plant the rosemary almost six years ago, and I've tended it, pruned it, harvested it, and used it in cooking ever since then. Therefore I figured a rosemary wand from this plant would already be somewhat "attuned" to me--more so than any other random wooden branch I would find or buy.

I'll have to cut, dry, and carve it myself, but fortunately I have access to a stepfather with a lathe who knows how to do those sorts of things.

Anyway, on to my main question. Does anyone else here have a wand? Any recommendations on its use/consecration?Any special rituals involving wands?

I'm sure there's a ton of info online, but I have no idea where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a wand of pomagranite wood rubbed with rose oil. My fiancee is getting a lemon wood wand made. I haven't concecrated it yet, but I feel very attuned to it. What my teacher told me is a wand is like an athame. you can store and direct your energy with it.

I have an oak wand. I cut it and carved it myself. I just did a simple consecration that was basically just me attuning with it since the goal is for it to be an extension of my will. I just projected some of my energy into it in a ritual setting.

I gained my wand in a very special way, It was on my very first pagan gathering. The gathering was over and we were about to leave when I decided to visit a pool of water that I had spent time at meditating and swimming. Well I had a very unusual encounter with a large spider that I swear was a spirit in spider form. It was during that encounter that I found my wand. I took it home, cleaned it, cleansed it (not the same thing actually) sanctified it in earth, water, wind and fire. I have had it ever since. Over the years my faith has wavered and I've gone through periods of doubt and disbelief but I have never gotten rid of that wand and I still use it in rituals today.

That's a lovely story. I was thinking abut getting a wand for some time, but I couldn't ever find anything that I felt was usable. I found some hand-made ones that I liked, but nothing that I immediately went "YES, THAT ONE!" for. And then I was out getting rosemary one day and I went--"Hey, some of this plant's branches would be perfect for making a wand OH MY GODS I HAVE TO MAKE A WAND FROM THE ROSEMARY WOOD!" Its better to be patient and wait for something to really appeal to you than to just settle for something, I think. I feel that way about relationships as well.

:3 Pomegranate wood! That sounds lovely.

I'm not actually wiccan--I have a ritual knife, but it's not really an athame as such--I use it for other things besides rituals, but I do use it for symbolic use. Its one of the reasons I wanted a wand--something for purely ritual use. Also, as a big believer in animism I believe objects can have spirits and wills of their own, and my knife --well, I very often get the feeling that it if doesn't want to be iused for something, well there's not much point in taking it off the shelf to begin with. It feels...very stubborn sometimes.

The rosemary bushes, on the other hand, have a much gentler, more easygoing attitude (for lack of a better term) so I feel like a wand made from them would be ideal.

That is a very good way of putting it, yes it is very much like a relationship. A good relationship works well, it is somewhat of a two way street.

I found the idea of cutting and carving my own wand very appealing. I feel like, in that way its already partially attuned to you. :3 Thank you for your help.

I think that cutting and carving your own certainly helps.

You're welcome.
