No, no, wait, hear me out. Not must haves for everyone, just must-haves for you.

Even if you don't have a Book of Shadows (or Grimoire, Book of Mirrors, Book of Light, Book of ********), what would you rank highly as things to include?

I'm remaking my old Book of Shadows at the moment, and I have a number of things I will definitely include (much of my Pathways thread, for example) and some things I might include for nostalgia's sake or just because I think they're pretty (like one or two of Valiente's poems). I'm not asking this question so much for ideas of what to add to my own, but because I'm interested in what other people are drawn to and would love to add to their own.

So, let me know! Link to or post poems, images (I like to print out and paste in beautiful pictures), liturgy, ideas, philosophies - anything and everything you consider a "must include" for your own BoS.

Do you have a dedication? What does it say?
How is your BoS organised?
Are there things you absolutely would not include?
Is it structured, or more of a free-form collection?

For me it is getting my facts right...I emerged out of a somewhat fluffy beginning a coule of years ago and now when I look at my BoS I shudder. I really must go through it again...and fix my mistakes.

I do not as of yet have a Book of Shadows because well I havent done anything. I haven't yet performed any Magic or done any significant kind of Energy Work to put down. But that being said I would like to have clear details of what I did and how I did it and anything important to my Path. I dont want to raise my kids Pagan per se but when I am doing something in the house to celebrate, ward, pray, etc and they ask I would like to have something I can show them.

Right now I'm just concerned with finishing copying in some of the stuff I have that I want to put in it.

I have my BoS in three major sections: Kemeticism, Divination, and Witchcraft.
Then I even have those broken down even farther. Like in my Kemeticism sections has concepts, deities, myths, my variations, and UPG. I haven't really focused much on the witchcraft section. I just has correspondences and types of magic.

I kinda have a dedication. It was just kind of something that I zoned while writing.

Black cherries on her lips

}i{ For my BoS, I have to have my herbal remedies. It's a list of various herbal remedies that help out with various ailments. Just common herbs, stuff I always keep around the house.

I also have to have a list of herbs and crystals, as well as colors, and just what they're used for. Correspondences, really. Just a quickie reference guide if I don't have my books on hand.

Other than that, there's not much that I HAVE to have.

As far as how it's organized, that's currently being changed. I finally got the printer to agree with my laptop, so I printed out some new pages and I'm reorganizing my binder. }i{

I have one for each of the Pagan religions I have thought about exploring in a practice wise. There is one for Asatru, one for Kemeticism, and one for Hellenic paganism. I have one for the Temple tradition and I have one for my personal witchcraft.

Each of the books contain sections for rituals, prayers, offerings, incences, holiday lore, holiday interpretations/ thoughts/ reflections, lore, oaths, and the like While they don't each have every segment, and there may be a few more, those are to give an idea.

Each entry is put in order by date. The newer stuff is in the back. It reads chronologically so it's really a way of showing where I have been and where I go. Things that have changed and things that have remained the same,

My personal craft book and the Temple book are the ones that have the most information in them. They are personally always changing and altering order, but I try to never take anything out. The reason for that is that I feel all things deserve to be kept for prosperity sake.

Really the only thing I don't put in my books are passages from the books I have read, unless there is a reflection of importance. I dont put my exact notes, but more reflections based on the actual written information and reflections.

Right now I use a 3-ring binder for each of them. I plan on keeping it in a binder type setting for a while. I may start scrap booking aspects of my BOS to include articles from magazines, images, and for artistic enjoyability.

I am also thinking of creating another book that would consist of my spells and magical practices which are separate from the religious practices. This would be more of my grimoire which holds formal rituals for magic and instructions for the practices of spells and rituals.

I have a dedication. It is dedicated to the ancient people's of old, who contributed so much to what we are as a species today.

My book, I call it my Book of Faith, BoF, is organized by topic. I print out the page or pages, then put it into a plastic protector sleeve and put it into the section that it goes under.

I have everything from studies of controversial topics, analysis of ancient writings, guides to cuneiform, my cuneiform writing practice tablets (I use thin linoleum sheets), drawings, all sorts of things. You name it, I've probably got it in there somewhere.

Well yesterday I burnt the old pages that I ripped out from my BoS. They made such a nice little fire in the empty bed of our veggie patch. I'm now ready to start afresh with a more educated and much less fluffy outlook on things.

It feels good, huh xd

I haven't yet recorded anything in mine. I just like that all the crap has been removed. It feels so good.

It feels fantastic - like a weight has been lifted. biggrin
I think to begin with I shall now write an overview of how I see things at the moment and an outlook for what I hope to achieve in the future.
