General Fangite, promoted, yadda yadda....perhaps promoted because he survived a really nasty senshi attack - that lost him his partner up to that point (Captain Alexandrite; a female that was ballsy like a man but soft like woman - 1 in every 30 days) and removed the missing eye
as such, he was called back to HQ to 'heal'
and while there he was assigned another partner - brains to help focus his brawn
Witherite - promising tactician...on loan to the 'unit' that Fangite is part of but kept b/c really...Fangite is awesome but stupidly charges into battle without proper handler
Fangite kept Alexandrite's weapon in homage to her or something, but they weren't involved - just the deep-seated closeness that comes with being partnered for looong tiem
so he has his massive axe, with it's trappings, and her um...um...maybe razorwire, a la Chocolate from Sorceror Hunters?
enchanted when she weilded it, but Fangite can't do that b/c he's not smart enough to imbue it with flame or ice xD

Fangite's with negaverse because he's a guy, full of snips and snails...and because his family was killed during what he now knows to be a massive battle between senshi and negaverse...and of course he only saw that the senshi caused the deaths (negas actually did).
