She wanted to know how Ai was fairing with this male fighter about. The thought that Ai was within the walls while Reisx was not made Reisx almost have a want to return. But, her love for the wild, freedom, Cellen, was much greater than thoughts o being thrown in the pits again. Reisx peered at the chain link fence from beyond the walls, atop a hill where a grove of trees was thick with undergrowth. There, Reisx watched idly for some time, trying to see whose scent she had caught the other night.

But no one came.

No one passed.

She knew it hadn't been a dream, a figment of imagination and frustration thinking of the male, but still it bothered her, none the less, Reisx began moving slowly in the early night hours, the sun nearly set, towards the hole in the fence. Reisx crouched low, looking to make sure guards and other mokai were not close, unless they were friend.

Reisx wanted to move quickly, but didn't know which way was safest, the fighter, he could sound an alarm bark at any time if he saw her.

Quickly, she told herself, find Ai.

The tether was back out. It was something JB wanted to keep on Ai while she wasn’t in the stall. Having had won three battles in a row, and the fact that she help precious cargo, made him double check and triple check that she would not get away. If it wasn’t for the misses, Ai would be inside, where it was the safest place of all. But, because Mrs. Lindon did not enjoy fighters, she had made sure that Ai would be kept outside for the most part. The many locks attached to her collar and flashy nametag were just all of his precautions.

Luckily though, the human had made the line long enough for Ai to wander in case she wanted to. She couldn’t go miles, but she could wander away outside the yard, and just a bit down the cobblestone streets. She was almost able to see the moon rise over the walls, if it weren’t for the buildings that blocked her view.

One good thing about the buildings, is that the shadows could quickly cover anyone if need be. Ai moved into the shadows, sighing as the cooler ground touched her rounded belly as she flopped onto it. Her eyes turned back towards the trail of rope that connected her to her owner’s house, shaking her head. Humans were weird, and sometimes overly protective.

No, she thought, this wasn't right.

As Reisx traveled through the hole in the chain link, she pressed her nose to the earth, inhaled and tried to make sense of where she had caught the scent before, but it came up blank in memory. Someone knew, and was either waiting and watching for those that used it, or was using the hole themselves. Reisx didn't mind sharing, but also didn't like her handiwork being misused by another if it led to the area being noticed, or worse, fixed.

She traveled to where she suspected Ai might be, but, her scent was still not close enough. Why wasn't she coming at her own free will? The dark furred Mokai knew well enough the wind was against her, and carrying her cent up and out towards those in the nearby area, so why hadn't Ai...come?

Her ears twitched, a thought came to mind as her eyes roamed around.

Had something happened?

Had he hurt her?

Eyes narrowing, Reisx took to the shadows, the stones under her paws felt colder suddenly as she made her way to find her gray pelted friend.

Reisx would call out to her, but she didn't dare make a howl, not yet.

Her nose rose to the air. Someone was out there. That familiar being she had come to know. Looking around, she had yet to spot the feral creature, but that didn’t get her hopes down. Instead she debated on how she could call out to the other, without actually calling out. If she wasn’t on this tether, she would just follow her nose to the other. Things were a bit difficult at this time.

“Reisx?” Ai whispered, standing in the shadows. The scent was getting closer.

“Reisx, over here.” She said a little more loudly. If they weren’t so close to the settlement, she would call out louder. The fact that any slightest noise could probably wake the lightest of sleepers stopped her from doing anything above that. She just hoped she was just loud enough to get the other’s attention, wherever she was.

Reisx stopped, hearing words spoken softly, hushed, harshly. She turned her head, closed her eyes and let the wind take a breath across her back as she tried to pinpoint the direction. Her ears flicked when she heard it again, and she turned and became one of the shadows, but moved fast.

As she came close to where residents were, Reisx got close to the ground, eyes gleaming in the night, why was Ai here?

Then she saw, and knew.

Ai was not far off, in the shadows as well, but something came from around her neck, out and down a little way to what looked like a yard nearby.

Her owner had tied her up? She frowned and made her way over quickly, taking residence close to Ai, looking at the line that kept her hostage.

"Why? Why do they have you like this?" Reisx's concern over the leash-line made her obvious to Ai's physicality, though it was dark, and Reisx's concern was more over the treatment of her friend.

At least it wasn't a chain.

She offered a smile, and touched her paw lightly to Ai's, "I told you I'd come back soon."

Ai couldn’t help but smile when her friend was near. Though, she was awfully close to the settlement. Part of that frightened her, even though most of the humans were asleep at night, there were still that one or two that was the insomniac, and wandered around.

However, she shrugged at her question, frowning. Not that obvious, huh? Maybe the fact it was dark hid the recent weight gain of the young fighter. “He…wants to make sure I don’t run off. Or that no one takes me for that matter. I battled again this week, and won. I think he is just paranoid or something. Says something about ‘precious cargo’, whatever that means.” Ai could be a little naïve sometimes. She had heard Imnir say to her she had gotten ‘knocked up’, but she really hadn’t relinquished the fact that he was right about it.

“I’m glad you came back. I…couldn’t fufil my promise about knocking some ‘sense’ into that mokai. I’ll get him though…when he least expects it.”

Reisx quirked a brow, and eyed Ai over. It was dark, and most of Ai's body was in the shadows and thus, hid details. Under a further impending glance, Reisx's eyes grew a little wide, and she looked to Ai's bright one's, to Ai's body, then back to Ai's eyes again.

Was she?

No....

They wouldn't.

Would they?

Reisx never considered the thought of her master breeding her to further gain money, to better his reputation or to get more fighter bait fodder. But Ai, she was so strong already, didn't her owner see that. But then again...

"Was...it your choice?" it was an odd question, Reisx knew, and immediately averted her eyes, "never mind, sorry," her ears fell back a little, embarrassed she even mouthed the question.

"JUst be careful, with them, you," Reisx raised her eyes, and let a smile slip across her maw, "teach them to be the best, just like their mom."

“It’s okay…I don’t mind.” She couldn’t say that she wanted to have puppies. Being so young, she didn’t know exactly what it mean when she was to share a stall with a male. Who would have thought something like that would happen. Well, apparently the humans did, but not Ai. “I…don’t know. If you mean did this happen by accident, I think yes. I feel the humans think not.”

…A frown, the usual one, plagued her maw again. “Honestly, Reisx…” she paused, figuring out just how to word what she would say next.

“I’m…I’m scared.” Never had this fighter been frightened. Being put up against tougher components only made her adrenaline rush. Ai wasn’t sure how to be a mother.

“That…that one mokai…the one we dislike…he…threatened…them.” The fact slowly began to sink in. “I don’t think I can protect them from him. I couldn’t even get a proper lunge at him from a few steps away with him side stepping it easily enough.” Her golden eyes held more sadness then anger. “I…just don’t know what to do…”

Reisx watched Ai, and heard the change in tone, the break in sentence, how Ai wasn't as focused in her words as she, Reisx assumed, would normally be with her movements in the pit. She seemed confused, perhaps, even hurt by this occurrence. What Ai spoke next, Reisx's eyes immediately narrowed, her jaw clenched, her hackles rising.

She wanted to find this male again.

He needed to be taught to show respect, that it has to be earned.

"You can, and you will." Reisx only hoped the father would help too. "I won't let him," she spoke suddenly, her heart already set on the idea, "if he lays a paw on any of them, I swear-" she didn't finish the sentence, she merely stifled a snarl, trying to calm herself.

She looked to Ai, and leaned close, gently touching her forehead to Ai's next to Ai's horn, "I will do what I can, to keep you safe," she wondered if she should tell Cellen of everything, or not. Or to keep it secret for now.

She wondered though, if she could get help...

Could she-

Maybe.

"There might be another way, for me to help, but only time will tell Ai, But I promise, I'll do whatever I can, I swear it."

Another smile appeared on her maw. It was small, appreciative.

“Thank you…” in her mind, words were just that. Ai would have to find a way to make it up to Reisx. Perhaps one way to do that would be sneaking out of the compound (when she wasn’t tied up to her owner’s yard), so she wouldn’t have to risk being caught every time she came in. It was the least she could do. Ai would rather chance getting in trouble with her master, than Reisx tempted fate, and potentially ending back up with her old one.

She nodded, looking down. “Thank you…again. I can’t…ask you to do much. I don’t want to risk anything happened with you.” Though, if something like that were to ever happen, Ai would do everything in her power to get Reisx free again.

Her eyes flicked back towards the house, noticing a light coming from inside the window. “I…better go. He’ll follow the lead if he finds me out of the yard. We will meet again soon, Reisx. Next time, it’ll be on your grounds.” She looked a little more happier now.

Reisx smiled and leaned forward, touching her cheek to Ai's, a friend's touch, a gift Reisx had never known before. A bond that she would never forget, or give up on. She would fight for her friend, no matter what the cost, and she would defend these pups from the brute that plagued the compound.

"Whatever I must, I will do," Reisx spoke, "and we'll find a way next time, can't have you going out too far, you wouldn't know the way, there is so much for you to see there," she spoke as she pulled away.

"Please, be careful, and rest easy, f you can," she stood and began walking, stopped and looked over her shoulder to Ai, and smiled, "I'll see you again, and I will help keep them safe."
